A pastor argues that your true identity is God-created, not defined by sin nature. He cites Paul's letters to show sin is a condition you battle, not who you are at your core. Believers should see sinful impulses as external forces, not their essence.
Chapters
You've heard it said that you have 2 natures in you, but the Word of God teaches us that we have only one. Now hold on, hold on, hold on, because you can read in Galatians about the sin nature, it exists. You can read about the battle in which we find ourselves, that's very real, you face it every day, this tension between what God wants and what you want, this tension between what the world says to do and what the Word says to do, this tension between who you want to become and who you're stuck being. We all face that battle. Myself included. So I'm not saying that the sin nature doesn't exist, nor am I saying there's no such thing as a battle. Paul the Apostle wrote, "When I sin, I'm not the one sinning, but it is sin in me." Now he's not saying that he's not responsible for the decisions that he makes. Rather, Paul the Apostle is saying that part of me is not my identity. The sin nature may exist, and I may fight with it, but the sin nature isn't who I am. So I say again, you have one nature. The other guy is not you.
