You’re Being Exposed

The Holy Spirit exposes sin and convicts both the world and believers. It reveals God's righteousness, announces coming judgment, and reminds believers they are counted righteous through faith in Christ, not works. The Spirit also assures believers of their victory over darkness since Christ has already defeated Satan.

The Holy Spirit is exposing you, and that's a good thing. Jesus talked about how the Holy Spirit would convict us. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin and of God's righteousness and of the coming judgment. To convict means to expose, rebuke, confront, and bring to light. So what does the Holy Spirit bring to light? Sin, God's righteousness, and the coming judgment. The world's sin is that it doesn't believe in Jesus. So the Holy Spirit calls the world to faith. And he also lovingly confronts sin in the life of the believer. When you do something you know you shouldn't or avoid doing something you know you should, the Holy Spirit calls you on it. When a believer sins, they can feel the grieving of the precious Holy Spirit. They can feel his heartbreaking. And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. That's Ephesians 4:30. Now, the Holy Spirit doesn't just speak against what we shouldn't do. He points us toward who we're meant to become. He reminds us of the standard we can live up to through Christ. The Holy Spirit doesn't He doesn't just convict of sin, he convicts of righteousness. But people are counted as righteous not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. The Holy Spirit reminds you that you are made righteous not by what you've done, but by what Jesus did on the cross. The Holy Spirit also reminds us of the victory that we have in Christ. When Jesus talked about judgment, he said judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged. In other words, the Holy Spirit reminds us that Satan's already been defeated, In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. So yes, the Holy Spirit is exposing you. He's calling out your wrongdoing, but he's also pointing you to the righteous life you can live by faith and reminding you of the victory that you share in Christ over the powers of darkness.
