A short talk by Jim Johnson arguing that clarity in systems and processes prevents chaos in contracting work. He contrasts being the informal 'system' people rely on (the 'Google' for questions) with having documented procedures; documenting what to do and when can eliminate many interruptions and reclaim roughly 80% of one's time.

Clarity is the difference between you achieving freedom and flexibility or you experiencing chaos, you end up getting the important thing, order. We want some order. When we have order in things, and people know what they need to do and when they need to do it. And it's all clear, you're no longer the Google of all things contracting here. You have no systems and processes. So you are the system and process. You're the one that everybody comes to to say, what do I do next? How do I do this? How do I do that? And because of the lack of systems and process, you're overwhelmed by all of the influx of those questions. But when we get it all clear, we get it all documented, written down. What needs to happen, when it needs to happen, that clarity stops all the questions and gives us back about 80% of our time.
