A short coaching video by Jim Johnson about "breaking dreams" — meaning to decompose personal dreams into concrete, aligned actions by identifying what you love and what you're great at. Using an anecdote about his grandfather and his own desire to coach, Johnson leads viewers through two reflective questions (What do you want to do / What gives you energy and fulfillment? and What are you great at?) and explains how combining those answers led to his creation of Contractor Coach Pro. The piece is instructional and motivational, focused on personal alignment rather than business mechanics.

So I've been on this concept, and I think this concept probably applies to you quite a bit. This concept of breaking dreams. And I don't mean, like breaking your dreams and saying you can't do something. I mean, like, breaking your dreams down into a way that they actually make sense so you can solve a problem. A way that you can align why you're doing, what you're doing with who you are. My grandfather gave me some great advice eight years ago that has given me the ability to do something longer than I've ever done anything in my life. And it's because of who I am. And he knew who I was, and he helped me find it. So I want to help you find it. Today. I want you to ask yourself a couple of questions. What do you want to do? What do you do that gives you energy? What do you do that gives you fulfillment? Think of when you're having the best time, not when you're making money or any of that stuff. Don't think about business right now. Think about what it is that you're doing that you have joy in, that you enjoy fully what you're doing, and you feel fulfilled by it. It's in your heart. Answer that question, you'll probably come up with a couple of things. It'll probably be something like me. I wanted to be a basketball coach. Wanted to be a college basketball coach. My grandfather had great insight. Again, to ask me a question. What is it about college basketball? Is it the basketball or is it the coaching? The reality was, it was the coaching. I coached a lot of sports, really enjoyed it. Giving fundamentals, seeing skills employed, game plan, winning, all of those things. Then he asked me the next question. What are you great at? And I was pretty great at this contracting thing. And he said, well, are you great at contracting or are you great at building teams? Are you great at inspiring people? Are you great at getting people to believe in what you believe in and charging forward with you like you do with your coaching? And that's how he helped me create Contractor Coach Pro. I believe you can do the exact same thing if you ask yourself those two questions. Think on that a little bit, it may change your life.
