Jim Johnson explains how doubt undermines entrepreneurs' decisions on hiring, pricing, and investing. He recommends beating it through education, coaching, and learning from mentors rather than failing repeatedly on your own.

So one of the things that we deal with quite a bit in our coaching is doubt. And doubt is actually human behavior. We all have it. Nobody walks through this life without having doubts. And as entrepreneurs, contractors, we end up doubting ourselves. Quite few a quite a bit like, should I hire this person or should I not? Should I sell that job or should I not? Should I lower my price or should I not? Should I invest? Should I buy a truck? How much money is mine? There's all these doubts that are constantly following us around. And the problem with it is when doubt actually sets in, when we lose this belief in ourself that we can make great decisions. And one of the ways that we can actually defeat doubt is by getting the education, the knowledge, the competence and confidence to make great decisions. We can do that through getting ourselves educated. We can do that through getting proper coaching. We can do that through actually gaining some experience. But that experience that we gain, we don't really want to go through this whole school of hard knocks thing. As a matter of fact, if somebody else has done it before, you go find that person, whoever it may be, it could be a mentor, a coach, could be all kinds of different people, learn from them and eliminate those mistakes. Because going down a path of school of hard knocks, thinking all that is fail forward, but fall back and then fail forward and then fall back, we want you to go forward at all times. And really the only time you should fail forward is when you're being creative or innovative. So keep that in mind when you have doubts, make sure that you are getting the education so you can get the competence so you can be confident when you're making decisions.
