Jim Johnson introduces the "Contractor Scaling Matrix," a visual framework of 12 business pillars that contractors implement as they progress through stages (Solo, Technician, Operator, Entrepreneur, Business, Expansion). The chunk frames the matrix metaphor (foundation/slab, core values) and previews that future sections will detail each pillar and the tasks appropriate at different stages.

This might be one of those takeaways that we have whenever we're done with this course that, hey, where am I? Where do I sit in this matrix? And what are the things? What are the right things and the wrong things? We're going to get into that, into some of our future ones. I'm going to get into each one of these pillars and talk about what those things are that need to be done in each one. But I just want to get the concept across to you guys today. And so that's the contractor scaling matrix. So what happens when you put it all together? Okay. What does it look like when you put it all together? Well, it looks a little bit like this. You think about your business. It has these 12 pillars. I got the little icons up there so you guys know which one's which. And I'm down here as the solo guy, and I'm working my way up through the technician and then through the operator, entrepreneur, business and expansion. And I'm knocking off everything that needs to be done. So you'll notice this solo guy down there doesn't have those pillars necessarily yet. He's laying a foundation. Think of it as like the slab of your business built on top of this rock. That is your guiding principles that usually turn into things like your core values for your business.
