Generic job ads bore people away. Write ads that are intriguing and leave something out, so candidates want to learn more. Hire for hungry, humble, and smart first. Skills matter less.

Well, you may have an ad in ZipRecruiter. Indeed. Something like, maybe you have a recruiter working for you. And if your ad looks like everybody else's ad, I'm not going to engage with that. But if your ad is compelling, it's interesting, it leaves a few things out so that I have to engage to find out more. I'm going to have a lot more people respond to my ad than one that says everything, and it's super boring. If it sounds like a place I want to come work and belong to, I'm going to engage with you. If it's just another job description and all the things that I shouldn't do and don't have to do, and you're trying to eliminate everybody out of your funnel at the engagement stage, you're going to end up with very few people that actually come to you. And so there's a mechanism there where you can squeeze that funnel down a little bit. But the idea is I'm looking for people that are hungry, humble and smart. That's the reality of it. If they have some skills coming in, that's great. That'll speed up the process. But hungry, humble, and smart, those are the people I want working for me.
