A short podcast-style YouTube clip by Jim Johnson arguing that the discovery (needs assessment) phase is the most important part of the sales process across industries. The speaker explains that thorough discovery reveals the client’s true pain (e.g., "we are bleeding this much"), which makes closing the sale much easier, especially when multiple decision makers are involved.

You know, when someone asked me the most important part of the sales process, no matter what type of products you sell, you know, tangible products, you know, software as a service products, you know, technology sells, you know, pharmaceutical, I said, the most important part of the sales process is discovery. That's the part or need assessment or need analysis, that's the part that sells is done, sales is done. At the end of that discovery, sales is done. And what I mean by that, people say, oh, no, come on, man, like, how is that possible? And I say, I tell them, I say, trust me, because at the end of that discovery, if you make me feel that, oh my God, you know, I didn't know we were bleeding this much. And we are bleeding a lot. And just show me the solution, then your cell is thousand times easier versus me finishing that discovery. And be like, ah, do we really need these products, man? Right. Especially if it's multiple decision makers. They look at each other in their own, ah, what are we doing here? Right? Versus actually, people say, oh my God, just show me, just show me.
