A brief transcript excerpt from a YouTube video in which two speakers discuss interview techniques to identify team players and hard workers. They describe using a hypothetical painting-task question (roller vs. cutting trim) to infer a candidate's passion and attention to detail.
So how do I find out if Randy's a team player without asking him? If he's a team player, how do I find out if somebody's a hard worker without asking them? Do you feel like you're a hard worker? Right.
So one of our core values is passionate. So one of the questions we ask in our interview is we ask the person, if you had to paint a room with someone, would you rather be the person that does the roller or cuts in the trim?
Oh, that's a good question. I like that. Well, let me ask you this then. What do you. What do you learn about them based on their answer for that? If somebody says, well, I'd rather run the roller, what does that mean to you?
Attention to detail and having passion in that project? I mean, if you're just. I mean, to us, or at least to me, if you're just the person that just wants to do the roller because it's easy be. There's not a whole lot of passion that goes into that compared to cutting in all the trim.
