A short YouTube video (creator: Jim Johnson) offering practical tips for home inspectors on how to engage homeowners during inspections to build trust and demonstrate expertise. This chunk advises doing a quick walkaround with the homeowner, inviting them to point out observations to involve them, asking questions to build relationship, and using—and explaining—specialized terminology to show expertise.
One of the helpful things that you can do in this inspection to actually earn some of that authority and the right is to do a quick walk around with that homeowner to point out things that you see. And have them point out things that they see that gets them involved in the process is very engaging. More time to create more relationship up here, ask more questions, and then show your expert abilities of naming off the different things and the things that they might be concerned about, using terminology that they might not be used to, and then explaining what that terminology is.
