Short YouTube conversation (Jim Johnson and another speaker) advising business owners to run SWAT exercises frequently (they do them twice a year) to track rapid technological and market change. They recommend imagining what would 'scare' you—competitors or market entrants that would keep you up at night—and either build that capability yourself or obtain what you lack; they frame fear as arising from change or lack.
You guys are listening. If you haven't ever done a SWAT exercise, you should go do one immediately. Like, it's. It's something that we do here twice a year. Like, what's going on? What? Because things change so fast now, you can't do them, like once every three years anymore. It's like. It's like twice a year. Hey, what's going on? What's changing out there in the world? Technology, the industry and environment, the market. Like, all those things have a such a big impact on your business. And we don't really realize it because we're. We're in our own little silo. Right. We got blinders on. That's right.
And so one of the things you think about is what would scare you, what would make you lose sleep at night, what would the business be that would come to your market that you'd be most fearful of and build that business? I mean, that's the exercise that we do.
Yeah. I would ask somebody why they're scared, too. Because fear, to me, comes from change number one, or feeling a lack of something. You lack something. What is it that you lack? I would go get the thing that you lack.
