Jim Johnson (speaker) presents a short business-advice monologue arguing that business momentum is like the physics formula momentum = mass × velocity. He cautions that many leaders focus on "mass" (hiring/sales headcount) but should prioritize increasing "velocity" by measuring processes and improving effectiveness and efficiency; doing so will allow added mass to produce substantial growth.
So at this time of year, it's early. We're thinking about the momentum of our business and where it's going to go. And there's actually an equation for this. If you guys didn't know that momentum we think about is kind of picking up a speed, and it's. It's mass times one velocity. And a lot of us are thinking about the mass side of our business. How many people can I get to come work for me and sell for me when you probably want to start thinking a little bit more about your velocity, because it's not going to take up and get the momentum that you want it if you can't build that velocity. So what you're looking at trying to do is measure everything to be more effective and efficient. The more effective and efficient and process oriented you are, the mass you add will take off and really take your business to new heights.
