Jim Kwik breaks down the prompt ladder, a five-level framework for better AI prompts. Level 1 is vague requests that produce generic output. Level 2 adds context like audience and purpose, so the AI can actually tailor what it makes for you.

The smart users climb the prompt ladder. Each level gives the AI more useful direction and requires more clarity from who? From you. There are 5 levels. Level 1 is the request. This is what most people do. Write my presentation about leadership. AI has to guess almost everything. Who is the audience? What kind of leadership? What's the goal? How long is the presentation? What should people think? What should they feel? What should they do afterward? When the prompt is vague, the model fills the gap with the most likely average answer. That's why so much AI-generated work sounds polished but forgettable. Level 2 is the context. At the second level, you explain the situation. I'm preparing a presentation about leadership for new managers at a growing technology company. That's better. Now AI understands who the audience is and where the information will be used.
