Laura asks how to build muscle before shoulder surgery. JJ Virgin recommends ramping up amino acids and collagen, then using blood-flow-restriction training or electrical stimulation post-surgery while working with a physical therapist. Lower-body exercises like leg press and leg curls help maintain muscle mass during recovery.

Laura says, how do I continue to build muscle after an injury? I have shoulder surgery coming up. Macros and proteins are going well. So whenever I have to have a surgery, I crank up my essential amino acids and my collagen. So my Amino Power powder and my Collagen Peptides Plus, and then this product that I now have on my website called Yoked by Myos that helps trigger muscle protein synthesis. So I do all those things to make sure that I'm maintaining. I really love either blood flow restriction training or electrical muscle stimulation for this. I think especially EMS, and there is a program called E20, so see if that is in your area where you can continue to work in those areas post-surgery. Especially make sure you work with your physical therapist on this and getting your shoulder worked on. Make sure that you're still training for leg presses, your leg extension, leg curl, do all the stuff that you can do that doesn't involve the shoulders.
