Hey, it's J.J. here. You know, I've been talking about environmental toxins forever, and laundry detergent is a sneaky one. A lot of them contain harsh chemicals like dyes, preservatives, and even UV brighteners. Those brighteners don't actually clean anything. They just coat fabric so your eyes think things look whiter or brighter. That's more chemicals I don't want on my family sheets or skin.
And.
And if you've got sensitive skin or allergies around the house, this can be a big problem. That's what got my attention about Earth Breeze. It looks like a dryer sheet, but it's actually laundry detergent. You toss one in the washer and that's it. No pouring, no mess, and no heavy plastic jug. Their packaging is lightweight cardboard, which helps reduce plastic waste. And if you choose the fragrance free option, it's gentle, hypoallergenic, non irritating, and non sensitizing. I really like how simple it is and how fresh and clean everything comes out without those unnecessary chemicals. Hey, it's JJ Virgin. And welcome to the JJ Virgin Lifestyle show, where I give you the latest cutting edge intel and help you look, think, and feel better. Now, today's show is all about diet derailments. You know what these are? These are those things that happen to you that get you off your game and then sometimes you just can't manage to get back on your game. So today we're going to be talking about some, some of the things that can happen to you that people have written into me about and told me about. That can include getting sick or getting injured when you travel. Maybe those well meaning friends and family who just want you to try a little bit and then all of a sudden you start a firestorm of cravings and, you know, frankly, other things that can just pop you off course. I'm going to be talking about each one of those things, strategies you can do to help turn those around. And then also what I use my mindset, cpr, that helps me stay on course here and what I used when my son was in the hospital to stay on course. All right, are you ready? Because today's guest is me, and we are gonna dive right in. So let's do it. Okay, so diet derailments. And it was interesting because I was querying my community last year and I said, you know, if you aren't where you want to be in your health, why not? What's going on? And the biggest reason people told me was a mindset issue. They said they didn't feel like they were worth it. But another big one that came up was I got injured or I got sick and I just got off course. Now, having been having had five knee surgeries to date, and obviously we've all gotten sick, I hardly ever get sick anymore, but I just got that crazy flu that just kind of hung on for weeks, just low grade blah. So I'm going to give you a couple things that I do that I always put into place when these things happen. And because you really got to make sure that when these things knock you down, that you have a plan for starting back again. And so the first thing that I do is I make sure that if I'm sick or injured, that I'm taking even better care of myself. Because truly, you know, the first place you start to heal is with food. And so I'm going to give you a couple things that I love to use for healing. And then the first one is bone broth. Bone broth. Bone broth. Bone broth. Now we've had Dr. Kellyanne Petrucci on the show. She's one of my besties, talking all about bone of roth. It is one of the most healing things that you can do. Now when my son was in the hospital and everyone kept saying bring him bone broth, I'm like, I don't know how I can get him bone broth. But luckily what, what you do have available, if you do have that issue is, is my paleo inspired shakes are actually concentrated bone broth. So that can help you heal too. And it can help you heal. And it's chocolate or vanilla flavored. Yum. The other thing that you can use here, if you're healing from an injury, if you're healing from surgery, you're going to want to pump your protein up a little bit. And glutamine can help a lot with surgery healing too. Now if you're sick, I want to remind you about a couple things. The single worst thing that you can do when you're sick is turn to comfort foods that are high sugar impact. Why? Because vitamin C actually competes with sugar to enter the cell. So you're going to bump out the, the vitamin C to get in the glucose. This is not what we want to do. This is going to, we know vitamin C or, or sugar, rather high sugar impact actually lowers your immune system at a time you need it most. So I want you to make sure that you're staying low sugar impact when you're sick. This idea of comfort food when you're feeling food when you're sick. You know what comfort food when you're sick is? Bet you're gonna guess it's bone broth. Yes. Now, next thing that you want to do here, because I get asked all the time, well, should I work out when I'm sick? This is where you want to really listen to your body. If you've got achy joints, that means you've got ligament laxity. Not the time to work out. If you've got a fever, not the time to work out. If you're a little tired and just feel a little off your game and you're just starting to get sick, I say take a break. But when you're on the other end of it, this is where you want to come back and start easy. Could be an easy walk, could be an easy. Just move through it at the gym. And last couple weeks ago, Tim and I were Both coming out of this thing, whatever this thing was. I had the good fortune of having this thing when I was on the Dr. Oz Show. I had to do a double segment, like, with this thing that I just felt like a little bit like I was floaty. Oh, not the way to do it. Anyway, we both just went back to the gym together and just moved to, you know, got. Went through the motions just to get started back again. Did we feel 100? No. But it got us moving again. So that's one of the things I would really emphasize here, is to just start moving again. So just start scheduling it back in and go easy, but go. All right, now the next one that I see derail people all the time. And I'll. I'll tell you this story because I thought it was so funny. Maybe you can relate. All right, so I was standing in a line at a. An event in the little coffee store at the event. And it was a big business networking women's event. And this woman was standing in line in front of me, and she kind of looks back at me sheepishly, and she's got a big old muffin. You know those cupcake muffins? Well, all muffins are cupcakes. Let's face it. They just don't have the frosting. She was holding one of those, and she was holding a latte, or she was. Had ordered a latte, and she looked at me and she goes, oh, like she had to explain this to me, right? She goes, oh, I only do this when I travel. Like, as if your body. When you travel, you get a hall pass, right? And I said, you know, that's interesting. Well, how often do you travel? And she goes, oh, one to two weeks a month. And I'm thinking, oh, my gosh. I mean, if she'd said once a year, all right, you know, that muffin probably won't take you down, but every other week. Wow. Wow. Crazy. So I always know when I'm traveling, I plan the whole thing ahead. First of all, I have my whole travel pack. So I travel with my nutribullet blender. And if for some reason I'm going carry on, then I will take one of my shaker cups. But generally, I. I make sure I travel with my nutribullet blender because it just changes the experience. And I save so much money on room service. And also, sometimes when I get in late to a place, I'll have that for dinner. I travel with my shakes. I travel with extra fiber. The last thing you want to get on the road is constipated. That makes life really unhappy. And I travel with my bars, so I know that no matter what happens and there literally have been days on the road where, you know, the only alternatives stonk. So I just lived on bars and shakes. Not the best thing, but better than the alternative. Like if you said, hey, you could either have like a, you know, crappy fast food meal or a bar and shake. I know what I'm going to say every single time. Now the next thing that I figure out when I'm traveling, I know in most of the places I go to, like New York, Arizona, Chicago. I know my places and I know where the closest grocery store is. And in Arizona I have one that's two blocks from Whole Foods. So I know I either factor in time so I can go there or I have stuff shipped in. So that makes it easy too. Now you know Amazon Fresh delivers to a lot of these places. Whole Foods will deliver to places so check that out. But I always, I like to stay at places. Like I have a place in New York where there's a chopped salad place across the street and there is a grocery store out one door, a chopped salad out the other door in an amazing gym and huge stair quick cases. So I'm dialed. The other thing I always make sure that I take when I travel is I take sleep candy with me, an eye mask and earplugs. Now I always ask at the front desk to not be near the, the elevator or the ice machine. And this is super important. So stress that you want a quiet room. You can put this into your, your profile or your portfolio so that you always get that. And I also ask for a refrigerator in my room and then I always travel with safety net and oh my gosh, I last time did the dumbest thing and I can't believe it. So I put my safety net in my suitcase and I got on the plane and promptly ate something that I thought was clean and wasn't and just was miserable for a plane flight. So make sure that's in your purse or your carry on. I don't know what I was, I wasn't thinking. So those are all of the things that I do when I travel just to make it easy. And I also always make sure that I have a gym in the hotel and not a, not a fitness room. Fitness room means crappy gym. It's sort of like when you're shopping for a house and they say quaint. Quaint means broken down house. Fitness room means a room with a Broken treadmill in it. So check out what the gym has and if they don't have anything there, make sure that there's something nearby or a lot of stairs in the hotel because stairs are always my go to. And then we also have in my exercise program, we have actually got some things that you can do in your hotel room in my fast fitness program. So that's another option. All right, next one, those well meaning friends and family. Oh, my gosh. And I gotta just tell you that my mother is the biggest example of this and has taken me years to train her and she still does it. I still remember being out with her somewhere and dairy breaks my face out and just gives me stomach cramps and gluten, makes my fingers and knees swell and hurts me. And so like my mom wants to split a Caesar salad with me for, for an appetizer and I go, mom, I don't do dairy and I don't eat gluten. Oh my gosh. You know, just a little bit. It's one of the biggest pleasures of life, blah, blah, blah. You know, as you can hear it. So I'm like, just order the Caesar salad and eat half, mom. It'll be fine. But you know, you hear that so often. Just have a little bit. And so there's a couple ways to handle this. The first one is just to involve them. Invite them to come do the program with you. If you're doing the virgin diet or sugar impact diet, just say, hey, you know, I'd love an accountability partner, a buddy to do this with me. Are you game? If they're not game, do not nag them or try to evangelize it with them, because that does never works. Just be the ultimate role model and they usually end up coming in. This is what worked with my kids. But the other part is to set up appropriate boundaries here with them. If they're nagging, you just say, you know, that looks awesome, and I'd really, really love to have that. But right now I've made a strong commitment to myself to get healthier and to heal my gut. And I've been having a lot of health problems and that'll set me back. So I totally appreciate you respecting that right now. Any other time, gosh, you know, these things all look good and you know, you have some for me or you can always say, hey, that looks awesome. I am stuffed right now. Can I take a little bit home? There you go. Okay. And if you do take it home, you know, here's the other part of it. I never Bring the enemy into the house. Because I have tested my willpower, and I don't have it any willpower. So I'm not going to bring in things like I would never bring in cheesecake into the house. That would be, like, ridiculously hard. So if someone were to give me a piece of cheesecake and I cannot think of anyone that I don't like to give it to, then what I'm going to do is I'm not going to just put it in the. In the trash, because if you put on the top of the trash, guess what? I'm gonna bury that sucker in the trash or dump coffee grounds on top of it or something. Something. All right, so that's the final thing there is, is set some good boundaries. And. And here's what's going to help you with that. Because I find with a lot of people, they're like, oh, you know, the first thing that slips them up, like the travel slips them up or their injury slips them up or something slips them up. And the first time that that happens, they just go, ah, you know, I. I'm out. And so here's what can really help you. And I teach this in the miracle mindset. If you have the miracle mindset book, you'll. You'll hear this story. And in this story, what I teach you is that when you have a big enough why, when you have a big enough purpose, when these things show up, you can get through them. And every time you deal with that situation of the mom pushing the cheesecake on you, or you getting slipped up, when you travel or you're dealing with being sick, every time you do it and you pull it off, you build that resilience. You build that muscle. So I call it my mindset cpr, that I have to have the big purpose, the big why behind this that gives me the courage that then builds resilience. And so what I'd ask you to think about first, and in all my programs and the Virgin diet and the Sugar impact diet and the miracle mindset, and in all of my programs, what I do is I sit down and I think about, okay, what is my. I have people go through? What are your reasons for doing this? So you say you want to lose 20 pounds, but it's not that you want to lose 20 pounds. What is losing the 20 pounds going to do for you? How is that going to help you? So we really got to put the why behind it, because it's the why. It's the big purpose that makes the difference. Now, if you have gone off track. I'm going to give you a little bit of a goodie here today. I'm going to invite you to go to jjvirgin.com/meta10 jjvirgin.com/reply10 that is a blog I wrote on 10 Ways to Supercharge your metabolism. And the reality is what that's going to help you do is get in there and break through some plateaus or if you've just kind of slipped off. These are things you can grab a hold on to help you get back on track. But again, the biggest thing that I've seen that helps people get on track and stay on track is having a big purpose behind why they're doing all of these things in the first place. Alrighty. So after the break I'm going to be answering listeners question so be sure to stick with me.

This is the time where I answer a listener's question. And today's question came during my live broadcast as I was recording this. I recorded it live on my Facebook Live and Victoria, as I was talking about diet derailment, says I sabotage myself. I always sabotage myself. So it made me think about how we talk to ourselves, how we manage our self talk. I'm gonna share with you something because you know what you say to yourself is becomes reality. So if Victoria says she always sabotages herself, guess what Victoria does. She always sabotages herself. I was super fortunate. When I was just turning 30, I was in grad school. It was my third graduate school at the time. And I had this woman who was one of my clients. I was a personal trainer paying my way through graduate school. And this woman said to me, she goes, so why are you in graduate school? And I said because I want to be more successful, I want to help more people. And she said, well, graduate school isn't necessarily going to do that. And I go, it's not. And she goes, no. I went oh, what will? And she goes, well, if you're interested, I will help you. Now, she was a super successful businesswoman, and she offered to teach me how to be successful in business. So what would any sane person say? I was like, great, sign me up. Well, what I expected to learn was how to be successful in business. What she did was spent six months training me on mindset, and which has served me far better because you will always be limited by your mindset in your business, in your health, in your relationships, in your finances, in your life. And she just worked with me and worked with me and worked with me and. And what I didn't realize at the start, and this comes back to Victoria, is how much my self talk was limiting me. And we all have this. And so what she did to help me become aware and to shift from being negative to positive, from being critical to open, was to wear these rubber bands around my wrist. And every time I said something negative, I had to snap them and say, cancel, cancel. And I remember at the time thinking, this is the dumbest thing ever. I can't believe I'm doing this. But boy, A, that hurts. And B, it snaps you back to reality. And, you know, it was so amazing because within a week, I became so acutely aware of my self talk of when I was being negative, judgmental, critical, and I stopped it by using the cancel cancel. So when I hear something like what I heard from Victoria saying I always sabotage myself, I say, well, if you believe you always sabotage yourself, guess what? You'll always sabotage yourself. So it's going to be necessary to create a reframe. Now, I talked about mindset, cpr, and really getting behind your purpose. Something I talk about in depth in the Miracle Mindset book in this podcast. And so I do believe it starts with that and then starts with the reframe of instead of I always sabotage myself is I can create success in anything I do in my life and work from there. Because you truly can. If you believe that and your purpose is big enough to do it, remember, big purpose will give you that courage that you need to take those leaps out of your comfort zone. And every time that you do that, you build resilience. So critical. All right, now, one of the key things that I've done to build resilience over time is gratitude. And this is the gratitude portion of the show. And each week I highlight a review. And by the way, the whole team reads these reviews on itunes. There's a couple things that we all look at. We all look at Facebook Live. And that's where I get my questions over at JJ Virgin Official. So I'd love you to pop on there and if you have a question, if there's a topic you'd love us to address, pop on there and let us know. And then we read these reviews every week. It is, it is something that the whole team does and it makes all of us feel so good about what we're doing because we're all here. Kind of very mission driven, folks. So I'm going to share one today from tmslof, and it says, great information, five stars. Your story about how you helped your son through this tragic time is so inspirational. This podcast is also a great way to keep the inspiration going. Your topics are real issues that I can connect with. You've encouraged me to get fired up again about continuing my battle with my own health challenges. Sometimes it gets so exhausting. Thank you. And that was Tina, by the way, was the tmslof. Thank you, Tina. And thank you for joining me today. And again, I've said it now a couple times. I want to remind you, take action, Take action. So you've heard things today and I've given you a lot of different tools on how to not get derailed off of your diet, not get derailed off your life. And I'm sure at least one of those things, you're like, oh, I can do that. Oh, that's a great idea. So great ideas actually become great ideas when you take action with them. So I'm just going to remind you, prod you to take courageous, imperfect, inspired action. If it scares you a little bit, great. That means that you're expanding your comfort zone and going out for bigger things in your life. And, and that's what it's all about. Just continue to expand that comfort zone. You'll be able to continue to show up bigger in your life. All right, thank you so much for joining me today. And until next time, this is JJ Virgin signing. Sam.
