Do Antibiotics Affect Your Immunity?
15 Dec 2025 · 8 min
Dr. Vincent Pedre explains how antibiotics damage your gut microbiome and immunity. A five-day course of ciprofloxacin can take up to 12 months for your gut to recover, and reduced microbial diversity weakens your gut lining and immune response.

You know, I've been talking about environmental toxins forever, and laundry detergent is a sneaky one. A lot of them contain harsh chemicals like dyes, preservatives, and even UV brighteners. Those brighteners don't actually clean anything. They just coat fabric so your eyes think things look whiter or brighter. That's more chemicals I don't want on my family's sheets or skin. And if you've got sensitive skin or allergies around the house, this can be a big problem. That's what got my attention about Earth Breeze. It looks like a dryer sheet, but it's actually laundry detergent. You toss one in the washer and that's it. No pouring, no mess, and no heavy plastic jug. Their packaging is lightweight cardboard, which helps reduce plastic waste. And if you choose the fragrance free option, it's gentle, hypoallergenic, non irritating and non sensitizing. I really like how simple it is and how fresh and clean everything comes out without those unnecessary chemicals. Right now you can try Earth Breeze for up to 40% off with free gifts@earthbreeze.com virgin that's earthbreeze.com virgin for up to 40% off plus free gifts on your first order.

Now, let's be honest.
The holidays are basically a financial ambush. Travel, hosting gifts, surprise holiday, school things. Suddenly you're wondering how December turned into a spending spree. If you want to keep your finances under control this holiday season, you need to be using Monarch. It's rated the Wall Street Journal's best budgeting app of 2025. Monarch is the all in one personal finance tool that brings your entire financial life together in one clean interface and on your laptop or your phone. What really grabbed my attention is how fast those little holiday expenses pile up with Monarch.
Seeing everything in one place makes it.
A lot harder to accidentally overspend. And honestly, I appreciate anything that keeps me from starting January with a money hangover. You'll love exploring the holiday spending category. Imagine how good it will feel to actually see what's happening before your credit card statement does that whole dramatic reveal thing. Monarch basically shows you exactly where the money is going in real time. And that level of clarity could change everything, right? Don't let financial opportunity slip through the cracks. I've seen this type of patient come in over and over. They've been on three rounds of antibiotics for a sinus infection that just won't go away or just keeps coming back. And now their gut is a mess and their immune system is no better because as we know, 70% of the immune system is all along the digestive tract. So in order to have a healthy immune system, you need to have a healthy gut lining. And in order to have a healthy gut lining, you have to have a healthy gut microbiome. And every time you take a round of antibiotics, you're paring down that microbiome, you're reducing its diversity, you're taking away its robustness. For example, a five day course of Cipro will take 12 months for your gut microbiome to recover from that. Just five days. I mean, just imagine that. That's crazy. And the more antibiotics you take, the more of a dysbiosis or imbalance between good and bad bugs it will cause and potentially yeast overgrowth that is going to lead to all sorts of toxins getting absorbed into your body. You develop leaky gut, and as a result, your immune system is on this constant high alert and it doesn't know how to turn off. But it also, because it's fighting a war along your gut lining, it can't pay attention to what's happening in other parts of your body, like your sinuses. So then you start getting recurrent sinus infections. And I've seen this over and over with people. And all you have to do is go in, balance the diet, take out the foods that are inflammatory and, and get the gut microbiome in order and suddenly their immune system is back, booted up, and they stop getting recurrent sinus infections. It's that simple. So, yes, antibiotics will affect your immunity. And the more you take, the more your immune system will struggle. And I had the same thing happen to me as a child. I was exposed to 3, 4 rounds of antibiotics every year. As a teenager, my immune system was shot. I would catch anything that anybody had. And it took me probably over two decades to figure all this out. And that's the work that I put into my book, Happy Gut, about how to balance the gut to have a strong immune system to lose weight easily and to have all the energy that you need.
