Hey, it's J.J. here. You know, I've been talking about environmental toxins forever, and laundry detergent is a sneaky one. A lot of them contain harsh chemicals like dyes, preservatives, and even UV brighteners. Those brighteners don't actually clean anything. They just coat fabric so your eyes think things look whiter or brighter. That's more chemicals I don't want on my family sheets or skin.
And.
And if you've got sensitive skin or allergies around the house, this can be a big problem. That's what got my attention about Earth Breeze. It looks like a dryer sheet, but it's actually laundry detergent. You toss one in the washer and that's it. No pouring, no mess, and no heavy plastic jug. Their packaging is lightweight cardboard, which helps reduce plastic waste. And if you choose the fragrance free option, it's gentle, hypoallergenic, non irritating, and non sensitizing. I really like how simple it is and how fresh and clean everything comes out without those unnecessary chemicals. Right now you can try Earth Breeze for up to 40% off with free gifts@earthbreeze.com virgin that's earthbreeze.com virgin for up to 40% off plus free gifts on your first order. Hey, JJ here. So you've heard about your gut microbiome and the bacteria in your gut and how important it is to keep those guys healthy and balanced. Have a lot of the good guys and not too many of the bad guys. Well, turns out it's the same in your mouth. Now today's expert I was going to talk to her purely about whitening your teeth. I admit, I admit it was like totally like, you know, vanity thing because I know that a lot of this teeth whitening stuff is super bad for you and maybe in the past, maybe I've done some of that and so I was trying to stop it. But we go a lot deeper than that because we are going to talk about what you can do to actually detox your mouth, which is the first place you should start a cleanse and what you can do to make sure that you have a super healthy mouth, that you reduce the inflammation and then how you can do teeth whitening without it being devastating. So I've got Trina Felber with me. She is the creator and CEO of Primal Life Organics, a premier all natural.
Dental care company that focuses on oral.
Health as the gateway to internal health. Can I say it? She is an absolute geek out on everything dental health and just became obsessed when she learned how much harm a lot of the products were doing. Probably because she's a nurse. 25 years as an RN and she has now become an obsessed oral health expert. She's created natural products to biohack your dental health for stronger, cleaner, whiter teeth and improved overall health. Plus she is a super business savvy gal and her daughter is a budding entrepreneur too, which I just loved and just a total inspiration. So I am really excited to have Trina on the show today. Before I dive in with that, I want to also do a little shout out to Jam Jux she says my.

All right, Trina Felber, welcome to the show. I have never addressed this topic before.
Thanks jj. I'm excited to talk talk mouth with you.
Mouth off Teeth.
We're talking teeth, man.
I know. I was like going, okay, I've never really talked about this before, but I know that I actually just had a moment. I will tell you, I had a moment in the mirror. I was like, what the hell is that on my teeth? And thankfully you've sent me your stuff because beyond that, you know all I knew to do before you sent me. And we're going to talk about why teeth whitening products are so problematic. But I mean, I was using toxic stuff. I admit it. I admit it. So first off, here's what I want to know. First, I was looking at my teeth and I went, well, how do my teeth get so stained and funky? Like, I don't. I mean, I know I drink coffee and I drink red wine, but it seems like it's more so now than ever.
What's going on so well, jj, you're not getting any younger and neither am.
I. I'm hanging up on you now.
I'm, I'm going to bring the white back. Don't worry. I'm going to bring the white smile back.
So.
No here. So as we get older, the outermost part of your tooth is the enamel. It's the thickest and the hardest part. But as we age, because of the conditions inside of our mouth, we lose the enamel. The minerals from the enamel, what can happen is your teeth, they become porous, they have pits or holes in them, however you want to talk about it, but the enamel wears off. And as the enamel wears off, the layer beneath your enamel is called your dentin. And your dentin is not white. Your enamel is more white, but your dentin is a yellowish. Some people it's bluish, and some people it's kind of a grayish tint. So as your enamel wears down, you start to see more of the dentin, which can cause the discoloration. But as well as the pits, can hold on to those pits that lost minerals in your enamel can hold onto your coffee and hold onto your red wine and hold onto your red sauces. So, yeah, I created a solution that's pain free.
Okay, we're going to back it up a little bit because I just was so excited to talk about white teeth. But it's, it's kind of interesting because I met you first and you were doing some really cool stuff in skin care. And then I get this little love box of teeth whitening and like I. How did you get into. And now, like spending time with you, you're kind of obsessed with, with the mouth, I wouldn't you say?
A little bit.
I love mouthing off.
Okay, so what, like why, what's going on here?
Yeah, I was obsessed with the skin. So I'm a nurse and I've always been obsessed with looking younger, looking my best. But it became really apparent as I've been. And I still do skincare, I still talk skin, I love it. But it became very apparent that my niche and my. I'm just a geek out about dental. And I think it's because, you know, I heard that the saying good health begins in the mouth. I really truly, as a nurse believe that. I believe that if your mouth is healthy, it's the gatekeeper between the outside world and your inside world. So you've got to keep that healthy. So I started creating products, but it was really related to my daughter. My daughter, at the age of two had a molar that came in with a defect and the defect was a natural cavity. So I researched different ways of like, I wasn't satisfied with the fact that the dentist said we were going to have to pull this molar within a year. I just wanted to figure out how can I reestablish the enamel. And I figured it out with using clay as a remineralizing agent. And it's the perfect agent to put in your mouth. So that's really how I started geeking out. It was really related to my daughter. And My daughter's now 10.
Wow.
Yeah. My daughter's 10 and she still has that molar that had a defect in it, and it's perfectly fine.
You're so smart.
So.
So I know, I mean, you know, I'm in the health field, so I know all the, like, scariness about, about the fluoride. But let's like, talk about some of these things because, you know, I think it's only been just recently that they pulled the, the mercury out of the fillings. Right. I mean, it seems like for years we've been using things in our mouth that make no sense.
Right? Yeah. And, you know, it's really scary too, because when they're pulling it out and they're taking like now we're trying to remove the fillings. You have the mercury fillings. We're trying to remove them so that you don't have mercury in your system where you can detox it out because it's not good for your body. They finally are using different types of things. And in fact, there's ozone. I just was reading about ozone, which is incredible. To help heal teeth and heal gums from cavities. So it's a completely different avenue than what we were used to when we were little. We all got the mercury fillings in it. They're so bad for you.
Yep.
Mercury fillings and fluoride toothpaste. So what about the. What about the over the counter stuff, the toothpaste, the mouthwashes, all that kind of stuff?
Yeah, it's. You know what? I. You're better off washing or brushing your teeth with water because really, the stuff that they're putting in, like if you go back years, the first tooth, it was actually powder. The tooth powder that was made was made out of natural ingredients. That's how I sort of formulated mine. I went back to what the original really was to clean your teeth. But it evolved into this sudsy thing that you put in your mouth, and it's got sodium lauryl sulfate in it, it has triclosan, it has glycerin, all sorts of ingredients that are actually not only are they toxic to your body. That's a whole nother topic. But they disrupt your natural biome inside your mouth. And they're not built, they don't have anything in them that are restoring the minerals in your teeth. So while you might be cleaning your teeth, you're not doing anything to promote the health of your teeth, to keep them long term. And really, the goal is to have this beautiful smile all the way through your.
Well, let's talk.
You just threw something out there. And you have the curse of knowledge, because we're all used to thinking about our microbiome in our gut, but you just threw the B word out for our mouth. So explain exactly what you're talking about.
I love this topic. I geek out on this. So here we go. Okay, so we're so used to hearing there's so much out there about the gut biome, but we have to stop and remember, this is where me as the nurse just loves this topic. Your digestive system really starts in your mouth. It really starts. Your immune system starts in your mouth. It's not just leaky gut, but you can have leaky mouth. I call it leaky mouth syndrome, where your gums are inflamed or you have an overgrowth of bad bacteria in your mouth. Because the products that are on the market that, that mark are marketed to, say kills 99% of the bacteria or germs or whatever you want to call it isn't just killing the bad stuff in your mouth, it's killing your good bacteria. And your good bacteria, when it can thrive, can keep the bad bacteria at bay. And you salivate normally. You're supposed to have saliva. The saliva does a couple things. And one of the things your saliva does is as you swallow your saliva, it's supposed to take that good bacteria that's completely different. There's actually more strains that are supposed to be in your mouth than your gut, and it's supposed to carry it into your gut to feed and seed your gut biome so that you have a healthy, healthy immune system that really does start inside your mouth.
So what do we need to do to have a good mouth biome?
So it's not about the practice. You know, we always talk about poor oral health or poor oral hygiene. It's not really about the practice, in my opinion, because I believe most people brush their teeth twice a day. It's really about the products. We just have to fine tune what we're doing. We're already doing it right. We just have to do it right Better with the better products. The products that aren't going to destroy our natural bacteria. And so that's what I've looked at over my years of creating products that actually heal the body or heal the mouth and the environment inside the mouth to promote healthy gums, healthy saliva, and healthy teeth. And then that brings you a beautiful smile.
Okay, so what kind of ingredients? Because, I mean, as you're saying this, the only thing I can think of is some videos where someone was doing coconut oil pulling and saying that you had to do this for, like, 20 minutes every morning. And I'm like, are you crazy?
No, I haven't. Yeah, I know.
Like, really? Yeah, that's exactly what I'm gonna add. Like, I'm having enough trouble getting my flossing in, and now you want me to do that?
No. Yeah, it's not. It's not that hard. And coconut oil is good. So if anybody's oil pulling. Don't get me wrong, coconut oil pulling is good. But I have a better solution that does the same thing in less time. So what I found was that clay has the exact same minerals in it. Clay is the perfect medium to clean your mouth with. And it doesn't sound tasty, but I made it tasty. It doesn't sound good. But really, when you think about it, the minerals that are the clay are the exact same minerals that are in your teeth. So there's a lot of. There's a lot of things that have to happen inside your mouth. And really, the first thing that everyone needs to understand is that to remineralize your teeth, to make them stronger, make that enamel thicker so they can be whiter and brighter, you need to have the minerals inside your mouth. You cannot take a vitamin or a supplement to remineralize your teeth. It doesn't happen that way. So it comes from the food that you eat, or it comes from the whatever you're brushing your teeth with. And there's no minerals in the commercial.

Products out there so clay is the perfect medium. Clay. If you think about it, clay has been used for years as a detox type of like for the skin. You can go to a spa and have a clay mask put on. It's been used internally as a detox, but it does the thing for your teeth. It helps to pull toxins from your gum tissue and your oral tissues inside your mouth. It also wow.
So we have a mouth detox.
We do. That's exactly what it is. It's a mouth detox and clay is awesome. It's gentle on the teeth, it's gentle on your biome so it doesn't hurt your good natural bacteria. It actually is neutral ph, so it's not going to make it acidic. When you have an acidic PH in your mouth, you want to rebalance that. Most foods are acidic so you want to rebalance that. Because when you have an acidic environment inside your mouth, that's when plaque develops and that's when bacteria grows. That's when you run into gum disease and things like that. So clay doesn't cause any problems with your back your PH in your mouth, it actually keeps it neutral. So that's good. It also binds to stains so it's going to help to whiten your teeth and it gently cleanses your teeth and it helps to keep keep plaque soft so that when you're brushing, you brush your plaque away.
Okay, so is this like, what's this clay like? Like is, you know, so don't just.
Go outside and dig up.
Yeah, help.
Help everybody out. Who's going, huh? You know, is it dry or you like what, what like what is it? Is it in a little container? Because I think I've got some of this. I'm pretty sure.
Yeah, you've got some. It's a powder.
So what I like, no one's seeing this, so they're kind of going, I don't know what you're talking about.
I'll describe it. I call it tooth powder. So mine is called dirty mouth tooth powder from the clay. And it is actually a powder. It comes in a jar and you wet your brush and you just dip it in. Clay doesn't grow anything. So you can just dip your brush in. Whatever lands on the brush. It's purely concentrated. So you only need a dusting on the brush.
Well, this is good too, because then it would probably make the things that are growing in your toothbrush go bye bye too. Because I didn't think about that. That's.
Yeah, it's really good for your mouth.
It's.
It nothing like clay is such a great medium to use. And in fact, people take it orally for detox. So yeah, it's a powder and I like it.
So should you swallow it or spit it out?
So that's a good. Spit or swallow. So that's a good.
Well, we could go a lot of ways with that, but we'll just stick with.
Yeah, I know.
So.
So I've been asked that a lot. So for children, this is the thing, because I have a kid's version that has. It's called bubble gum and it's all my flavors are all essential oil based. So for children it is safe to swallow because it's food grade clay. For adults, I tell people to spit because clay detoxes so well that you would rather spit that out than swallow it. But if you do swallow it, it's not a big deal. It's safe. And the clays that I use, I use bentonite clay, I use white kaolin clay and then French green clay. And French green is from the sea, so it's got all the LJ and the phytonutrients for your teeth, your gums, and it's really, really good. It's really healthy.
I'm getting like super excited about brushing my teeth right now. Is that a weird thing?
Is that normal?
Honestly, I'M kind of going, I, I will. Okay, I'm full disclosure. You sent me the stuff and I've been afraid of toothpaste. And I just, you know, I know the ones with fluoride flea. I just don't like them. So I just stopped using them. I've just been using mouthwash and you sent me that stuff. And I used it once. I was like, this is weird. I don't know what to do with it. So I put it in my drawer. Now I'm like, oh, my gosh, this is the coolest thing ever.
So you have to try it. It's a completely different experience. And people say when they walk out of their dentist and they have that fresh taste in their mouth, that's exactly how it feels when you brush with this, it cleans. And what's really cool, this is the best reason for you to switch is because when it reestablishes your good bacteria, like get rid of the mouthwash, that's causing more problems.
Okay?
It's naughty and it's gonna cause you bad breath. When I had to reverse psychology this, I had people emailing me after they started using the toothpowder, emailing me, wondering why they don't have bad breath anymore. And I had to go, what? Oh, me neither. What the heck? So I realized that because you reestablish a good natural biome, we're so used to destro destroying it and living with bad breath, we think that's normal. When bad breath really is a body odor and it's not normal. When you reestablish your good bacteria by not destroying it, then you can actually have good, normal, healthy breath. And even in the morning when you wake up, you're not disgusted by your own breath.
That's important. Bad breath. So even morning breath is not supposedly shouldn't happen.
Not really. Like a little bit, you know, obviously you've got a little bit of a dry mouth, You're a little dehydrated, but really you should be able to take a drink of water and you should feel like your mouth is fairly fresh. You shouldn't feel like you have to run to the bathroom and brush your teeth. You're going to want to with my toothpowder, but you're not going to feel that need of that icky breath.
This is very exciting. Okay, now, most important, we started this way, but let's talk about teeth whitening, because I did that laser thing once.
That was a horrible experience.
Like a horrible experience.
Why was it horrible? I just want to Hear it because it hurt, man.
It was painful, which couldn't be good. So that was not fun. And then, you know, there's those little strips that I'm sure it's like you're putting toxic stuff on your teeth. So what do we do here?
So the problem with, you know, really, everybody wants whiter, brighter smile. It builds confidence. It makes you feel better. When you smile, the person smiles back at you. It builds this connection, this, you know, between people. And it's really important, especially when you get up in front of an audience and you have to speak, you know, or you're speaking to anybody. So. So the biggest concern and the biggest pain point I hear from people is that peroxide hurts. Whitening your teeth hurts. And the reason behind that, I now know this is because peroxide, the way it works is it dehydrates your enamel. That's how it works. It dehydrates your enamel. And most likely your enamel has the holes and the pits in it, because you haven't. If you haven't been brushing with something that has the minerals in it, you most likely have lost enamel. So as your enamel thins, you're going to have that sensitivity to hot and cold and peroxide. So it's very, very painful sometimes to get the peroxide treatments. Even the home treatments can be painful. So I wanted to do something that was completely different so that people could actually enjoy whitening their teeth that did more than just whitening their teeth. So I created an oral. An LED teeth whitener that we have that has both red and blue LED lights. I can explain that later. But the big thing difference is the gel that I created has an olive oil base. So the whole base is olive oil. There's no water, there's no toxins, there's no peroxide. There's no nothing. And to the olive oil, I added activated charcoal, because activated charcoal is really, really good at pulling off stains and whitening the teeth. I also added essential oils that help whiten the teeth, but also help improve your gum tissue. I know a lot of people, you don't really think about your gums too, but really, you want to have healthy gum so you don't have to think about it. It's in there. I put it in there to give you better gum tissue. And then on top of that, I added the clay. Cause remember, the clay has the minerals in it. So While you're spending 20 minutes whitening your teeth, your teeth are exposed to minerals. So you're going to actually be rebuilding the enamel to make them thicker to make them whiter while you're also whitening them with a. The blue LED light and the activated charcoal.
Well, plus, I've seen that you can do this anywhere, and you can do this anywhere.
Yeah. The device. I'm a girl that just loves tech. I like to be on the go like you. I multitask everything. So I created it so that it plugs into your cell phone. You do not even need a battery. It's completely wireless as far as. Or there's no battery. You plug it into your cell phone, you put the gel on, you pop it in your mouth, you set your timer on your phone for 20 minutes, and then you do whatever you want. I usually do the dishes when I'm doing it because it's a race to see if I'm going.
I saw you walking through.
You.
You did a thing of you walking through the airport.
It's neon inside your mouth, so people stop and look, and they're looking at you like, what is she doing? What's wrong with her? I walk. Yeah. Just walk through the airport.
Yep.
So you. You can. If you think you don't have time to do this, you do. That's the big takeaway. So I know we just did a big, big download. We'll of course have the notes to all of this, but you also are giving every everyone your dental health guide. And it's going to be at JJ virgin.com forward/dental. But tell me about what they're going to get in there.
The dental health guide is the download is the guide to better dental health. And it will give you some more information than what I've been able to give you with JJ about how to restore your enamel, how to keep your teeth white.
Awesome.
That's perfect. Fantastic. And again, like. Like, it's kind of like things like I've been sitting there knowing I needed to do, but I wasn't really sure how to do. And what's super cool is how easy you've made this, and it just makes sense. So.
And I created this oral wellness package that includes everything that we've basically talked about that has the LED whitener and it has the tooth pattern. It's got a couple other things, like a tongue scraper, because you really should be scraping your tongue, too. And.
Okay, slow down. We need an accountability group.
That's right. Don't worry. I'm going to be checking tongues.
But, you know, it's like some of the stuff I actually kind of knew I needed to be doing. I just needed a process so thrilled that you made it super simple. And I love the idea of the mouth detox. It's just super cool. So thank you for that. I love that you're just a absolute freak about all this stuff, but that you've made it easy. And I trust you because I know where you've come from. Being a nurse. Nurses are some of the most trusted people. Did you know that? You know, nurse and having that great skincare company. So it's really, really cool. So I love it. I thank you so much for being with me today.
Oh, thanks, jj. I, I'll, I'll mouth off with you anytime.
So I want to remind everybody too. Jjvirgin.com I'm going to make it actually dental health. So jjvirgin.com go to dentalhealthdentalhealth. And now after the break, I'll be answering the listener's questions. So stay with me.

Welcome back. This is the time where we answer a listener's question.
I swear this question comes up like.
I don't know, a couple times a week. Every time I'm on a live and I do those over on Facebook @jjvirginofficial and Instagram. JJ Virgin.
It is the top question.
In fact, I talked to all my nutrition friends and they say this is the biggest question they ever get asked. Are you ready for it, jj? What the heck do you eat? What do you eat?
All right, so I was actually kind.
Of scribbling some notes, and here's what I do. I start the day with bulletproof coffee. I actually don't do the whole fat knit unless brother Dave Asprey himself is doing it for me. I do black and sometimes with a little foamed up coconut milk, unsweetened, of course. And then I wait and wait and wait till I'm hungry. And so that's usually about an hour.
And a half later, I'd say I.
Make a smoothie, make one for me and one for my hubby. I use my JJ virgin all in one paleo shake powder, coconut and depends on what's going on. Like I usually use coconut milk, sometimes flaxseed milk, usually use a little avocado. I use my extra fiber powder and then it just depends how I'm feeling, what else I put into it. Lately I've been freezing green bananas for the resistant starch and putting a third of a green banana in there as well. I make them super thick so I can stir it with a spoon. Sometimes I swirl in some almond butter. Lunch is usually a salad. So I do a salad with a lot of romaine lettuce, whatever vegetables I have around and then whatever leftover protein. I tend to eat a lot of wild salmon and grass fed beef. Those tend to be two of my proteins I do the most often. I also will do some of the nut cheeses and sprinkle some of that on there too. Big fan of avocados. I get avocado in every day. I get vegetables in every day. The vegetables I eat the most are broccoli, cauliflower, as cauliflower rice and shaved brussels sprouts and squashes and lots of deep green leafies. Those are my faves. I'll do a little dry farm wine. That's the wine I drink. I like to do the little small potatoes, roasted, sliced up and then I love it when I do that. And then have them cold and throw a couple into a salad. And then I do a little bit of dark chocolate and I usually have a little bit of one of my bars. So I mean those are like what I tend to eat every day, all over the place. And it just keeps it super simple. I have my pantry well stocked. I have my refrigerator and freezer well stocked. So that really all I have to get each week are a lot of vegetables. And the rest of stuff is stocked in my freezer, in my pantry to make it super simple. And I'm gonna do a shout out here. We'll put into the show notes for this which would make it really easy again. Jjvirgin.com dentalhealth we'll put some of my favorite foods shopping list so you'll know exactly how to stock your pantry, your fridge and your freezer. How's that sound? Does that make it easy? Because I'm all about making it easy and I'm kind of excited after talking to Trina. You know, you don't really think about this part of it. I'm thinking about what foods I eat to keep my blood sugar balanced, you know, eating the fat, fiber, protein, trifecta and what foods to eat to have good gut microbiome plants. But sounds like you also want to do that to have a good mouth biome too. So I'm sure that the same foods that keep your gut well balanced probably keep your teeth well balanced too. But I'll be finding more about that so you can grab those too. Everything@jjvirgin.com DentalHealth Big thank you if you have subscribed and shared and left a review and I will see you next week. Hello listeners, this is Anne Bogle, author, blogger and creator of the podcast what Should I Read next? Since 2016, I've been helping readers bring more joy and delight into their reading lives. Every week, I tag all things books and reading with a guest and guide them in discovering their next read. They share three books they love, one book they don't, and what they've been reading lately, and I recommend three titles they may enjoy reading next. Guests have said our conversations are like therapy, troubleshooting issues that have plagued their reading lives for years and possibly the rest of their lives as well. And of course, recommending books that meet the moment. Whether they are looking for deep introspection to spur or encourage a life change, or a frothy page turner to help them escape the stresses of work, school, everything, you'll learn something about yourself as a reader and you'll definitely walk away confident to choose your next read, with a whole list of new books and authors to try.
