15 Dec 2025 · 4 min
JJ Virgin explains how the Sugar Impact Diet prepares your body for intermittent fasting by lowering sugar intake, reducing fructose, and building metabolic flexibility. The diet trains you to shift from burning sugar to burning fat and ketones, making fasting easier and more sustainable.

A lot of them contain harsh chemicals like dyes, preservatives, and even UV brighteners. Those brighteners don't actually clean anything. They just coat fabric so your eyes think things look whiter or brighter. That's more chemicals I don't want on my family's sheets or skin. And if you've got sensitive skin or allergies around the house, this can be a big problem. That's what got my attention about Earth Breeze. It looks like a dryer sheet, but it's actually laundry detergent. You toss one in the washer and that's it. No pouring, no mess, and no heavy plastic jug. Their packaging is lightweight cardboard, which helps reduce plastic waste. And if you choose the fragrance free option, it's gentle, hypoallergenic, non irritating and non sensitizing. I really like how simple it is and how fresh and clean everything comes out without those unnecessary chemicals. Should be a right, not a competition. At University of Phoenix, you'll get the best scholarship or savings you qualify for. Simple as that. Explore scholarship options at University of Phoenix okay, I wish that I could say I was so smart that I was already doing intermittent fasting when I wrote the Sugar Impact Diet. But I wasn't, not intentionally. I was just because sometimes I would get up later and eat eat a kind of breakfasty brunch and eat early dinner. But I didn't really know the whole scoop on intermittent fasting until after the Sugar Impact Diet was published. Had I known about it, here's what I would tell you. Same with keto. I knew about keto. But the Sugar Impact Diet is built to help people who cannot get rid of their sweet tooth or can't seem to get rid of their belly and cannot go more than a couple hours in between meals. It's built to help them move from being a sugar burner to a fat burner so that they can easily then go into ketosis. They can easily do intermittent fasting and full fasting without issues. Here's why. For the most part, if you've been following the big diet dogma out there for years and years and years, it was eat low fat, snack, eat every couple of hours. Well, the problem when you're eating every couple of hours and when you're eating low fat and especially buying low fat products, is you're probably getting food where they pull the fat out and put sugar in. And now you have less fat, not a lot of protein and processed food, which means your blood sugar is going to go up more in response to eating that when your blood sugar goes up, your insulin goes up. Well, insulin works well to get blood sugar down, but it doesn't move fast. So if you're eating every couple hours, you're keeping your insulin up. And when your insulin stays up, it basically locks the doors to your fat cells so you cannot burn off stored fat for fuel. This makes you a sugar burner, always relying on the incoming to help you get that energy rather than be able to access stored belly fat. Right? Booty fat, that kind of stuff. Although booty fat's now all the rage. So maybe, maybe I'll just say belly fat. Cause no one wants that. So first thing that I have you do in the Sugar Impact Diet is really see the impact sugar has on you. See, it's not about eating no sugar. It's about knowing which to choose and which to lose. You want to make sure that the foods you are eating are making sugar slowly from the foods you eat. You're not mainlining it right. And that if you wanted to go 12 to 14 to 16 hours or even 24 to 48 hours without eating, you'd feel okay. And if you went completely super low carb keto, you'd feel okay. Because your body is metabolically flexible, it's able to shift from using sugar from for fuel to fat for fuel to ketones for fuel. It's able to do that easily. And it's able to go four to six hours without eating, without you feeling crazy, hungry, angry, irritable, et cetera. So the Sugar Impact diet's built first to kind of identify where you are. What kind of impact is sugar having on you? Now you may be thinking, but jj, I'm not eating any sugar. But here's what I've found. You may not think you're eating any sugar, but sugar sneaks into the places you would never expect. Fact. Like those fat free salad dressings and you know, these, these yogurts with the fruit on the bottom, it's, it's hidden everywhere. And so the first thing I have you do is identify. Is it making me cranky, tired, bloated, achy, belly fat, cravings so hard to lose weight? Then I have you look at all the places that could be sneaking in for you and then we go through a process over a couple of weeks where we lower your sugar impact until we get it down to super, super low with no fructose whatsoever and lose your sweet tooth. And at that point when we've gotten you there, where you're now able to burn fat, where you're metabolically flexible, this is the awesome time to start incorporating in intermittent fasting and fasting and going into ketosis. So the Sugar Impact Diet, in summary, that was a long winded way to say the Sugar Impact diet. It was like I could see the future. It was perfectly written to help you move into a ketogenic diet or move into intermittent fasting. It's really your warm up for that. This is JJ with Ask the Health Expert.
