Hey, it's J.J. here. You know, I've been talking about environmental toxins forever, and laundry detergent is a sneaky one. A lot of them contain harsh chemicals like dyes, preservatives, and even UV brighteners. Those brighteners don't actually clean anything. They just coat fabric so your eyes think things look whiter or brighter. That's more chemicals I don't want on my family sheets or skin.
And.
And if you've got sensitive skin or allergies around the house, this can be a big problem. That's what got my attention about Earth Breeze. It looks like a dryer sheet, but it's actually laundry detergent. You toss one in the washer and that's it. No pouring, no mess, and no heavy plastic jug. Their packaging is lightweight cardboard, which helps reduce plastic waste. And if you choose the fragrance free option, it's gentle, hypoallergenic, non irritating and non sensitizing. Hey, it's JJ Virgin. And welcome to the JJ Virgin Lifestyle show where I give you the latest cutting edge intel to help you look, feel and think better. Now, today's show. Well, today's show, we're going to really talk about what's missing in your health. Like what, what is missing in your health plan that's keeping you from just kind of knocking out of the park and feeling your absolute best? And as I was doing this interview, I thought, you know, this is really about the fact that your body knows best. Now, if you've been around my, my community for any amount of time, you know, I'm super big on a couple different things. Number one, the mantra I always say is your body is not a bank account. It's a chemistry lab. And, and all of my programs, the Virgin diet and the Sugar Impact diet, are all built to help you go through your own personal discovery process where you take responsibility for your health and you dial it in and you learn to really listen to your body. That's super key. And there's two more essential parts to that for you to achieve huge success. And that's what we're gonna be talking about today with my guest and bestie, Cynthia Pascuala Garcia. Super excited to share her with you. You've probably seen her again. If you've been in my community, you've probably seen, seen lots of posts and information with her. I've been at, I was the, the person who stood up for her at her wedding. We've been friends for ages and ages. In fact, when I first met her, she's like, you're like my big sister. I think she said like her older sister. But I'm switching that to big. I was like, Cynthia. Anyway, I am really excited to share Cynthia with you. Let me tell you a little bit about her before I bring her on. So Cynthia Pascuala Garcia is a celebrity Nutritionist, spiritual leader, media personality and best selling author. You may know her from being on Dr. Phil and the Doctors. She has a program that she did with Dr. Phil called the Pink Method. She's the founder and the director of the Institute of Transformational Nutrition. It's really the Ivy League Institute of Nutrition coaching certification programs. And what I really love about this is again, you're going to see that she takes nutrition and adds in two more components. You're going to find out why. These were two components that were key really in Grant, my son Grant's recovery from his traumatic brain injury. And ITN is the first and only personalized nutrition coaching system proven to get both coaches and clients results. So I am really honored to have my close friend Cynthia with us today. Cynthia Garcia, welcome to the show. I'm so glad you're here with me today.
I'm so excited to be here. Jj, thanks for having me.
Well, this is such a cool topic because it really goes with my whole through line of what I teach people is that we really have to look at taking personal responsibility for our health. And I know you've built an entire institution around this with some super cool concepts. So I'd love to dive into that and really look at like what you see as probably the key challenge out there with people really getting healthy.
Yeah, that's a great question, jj. And I think, you know, I think most of us could look at lots of different areas and, and say, point, sort of point the finger and say, oh, well, doctors don't spend enough time with their patients or diet books or cookie cutter or whatever. But the biggest issue that I've really found, and I've done this for many, many years now, is a lack of invol in your own health care. We've become very passive in our healthcare, in our journey and overcoming our illnesses and things that come up. And it's time that people really take on some personal accountability and step up and become more active in that role of healing their own body. You know, jj, we've done this stuff, as I said, for a very long time and I know you're an expert in so many things when it comes to health. Sometimes I don't know how you store all of this information in your brain, but there's a lot of experts out there and I know we all listen to their summits and read their books and we do these things, but I think that what we tend to forget is that we're the expert on us. You know, there's a lot of great information out there that we can use. But we are really the only ones that are in our own body and in our own minds. And we're the only ones that truly understand how we're feeling, how we want to feel, how things affect us. And having that information is really key. But what we've done is we've sort of tuned out and we've handed our health over to the so called experts. Not that they're not, it's just we need that information, but we need to understand that we are the ones that have to implement it, and we're the ones that have to take the appropriate action whether something's working or not, and then find the best solution. It has to be personalized to us.
All right, but how. I'm going to play devil's advocate because there is amazing information out there. I mean, that's one of the things I strive to bring out. And then you have all this information. You're like, well, what do I do? And how do I know, you know, what I. Whether what I'm feeling is right? You know, how do you learn to know how to evaluate this, what you should be looking at, how to trust it? Like, where would someone hearing this go? All right, I accept that. I'm going to take responsibility for my body.
Yeah.
Now what, Cynthia?
Yeah. What do I do? Well, I think, look, you're right. There's a lot of great information out there, but we need to understand that we're not cookie cutter humans. What works for me doesn't work for you, Jake. Jj, we're very complex. I love your, your quote about, you know, the, the body's not a bank account, it's a chemistry lab. And that's very true. So I, it's not that I don't think the information that's put out is great. I think it's fantastic. I think that it's important for us to get back to really reconnecting with our bodies and understanding what works for us. And, you know, you really said the magic word, and that's trust, because. And it's a process. And, you know, we've given up the trust of knowing what works best for us. I mean, look, I think we would all agree that the body can heal itself if given the proper things that it needs. I don't think that, you know, that's, that's a real question. But most of us don't trust ourselves to know what's best. We don't trust the feelings that we have. I mean, these days we don't even trust whether or not we're really hungry or not, because we have emotional eating, and we're supposed to eat it sometimes set times during the day, so we don't listen to our bodies anymore, and we don't hear what they're trying to tell us. And so one of the things that we do at the Institute of Transformational Nutrition is teach you to reconnect with yourself so that you can trust and you can have that open line of communication with your body. Um, and the other thing is we look at it from three different perspectives. You know, I think most of us have gotten used to just looking at the science and food, and that's what we're counting on to fix us. But we have to understand it's so much bigger than that. And so we add in the psychological components. There's a lot of things that go on psychologically. Many of us have experienced trauma in our lives. Many of us don't have healthy mental environments. You know, our relationships aren't healthy. We're not in jobs that we really thrive in or are passionate about. And then there's the spirituality angle, which isn't so much about religion as it is about connection, whether it's a connection to something higher or just a reconnection to yourself and that truth within you. So there's different aspects. And. And I feel like what's really critical right now is that people learn how to tune in, how to reconnect, so that they can have that trust factor that you mentioned.
So how quickly, you know, let's say that you've just been focusing on. Okay, just the food, right?
Sure.
Because I think a lot of it does start with food, but that's just a piece of it. How quickly can you start to make shifts when you. When you bring in the other components?
I mean, immediately you really can. The beautiful thing about these types of.
Of.
Of looking at health from the perspective of psychology or spirituality is, again, no one is a bigger expert on that when it comes to you than you. So it's just creating. It's just about creating awareness. And, you know, jj, awareness is the first step toward change. Right. If we don't know it exists, we can't change it. And what I've noticed in so many people who join us at the Institute of Transformational Nutrition is that they're so hungry. And I don't mean for food. They're hungry for that connection. They're hungry for just knowing who they are, and they're. They're hungry for the things that are important to them. They just don't always know how to get those things. I mean, the food, like you said, that that's, that's out there all the time. We're seeing things. You know, there's summits, there's books. We've talked about all of this stuff. But when it comes to these other aspects, they don't always get those. These aren't things that we are preaching from the rooftops like we are food. And so it's really interesting. And I found that because we're so hungry for that. As soon as we're the information, it's immediately absorbed and it's almost like a relief or like a homecoming. And we absorb it, we take it in, and we immediately feel the impact and we're able to make changes. And the great thing is, the deeper you go into these things and the more you understand, how does my self worth affect my overall health? How do my relationships, what role do they play in my overall health? Then you have that awareness. And once you know those things, jj, you can't unknow them. So now whenever you're doing these things in life or you're experiencing these things, or you're not feeling well and you're trying to pinpoint what's going on, these are the factors that are going to start coming to mind. And so you start to see results immediately. And the longer you do this and the deeper you go, the more of an understanding you get and the more reconnection, the more trust and the more you're able to actually heal your own health.
You know, I got a couple things popped up as you were talking about that that just exemplify everything you're saying. Just because people have been going, huh? And the first thing is you talked about connection. And it was interesting. There was a study out that showed that social isolation, lack of connection, was more detrimental to your health.
Yeah.
Dr. Alyssa Rankin talks about this. Then she did a TED talk on this, then smoking 15 cigarettes a day. It was one of the biggest things. Isn't it crazy? It was one of the biggest things that Grant struggled with. The next thing that kept coming through as you were talking about this is, this is, is that I really see that all of this needs to be really purpose driven.
Yeah.
And that that purpose, I find it when I'm helping someone with the health program, if there isn't a purpose behind it, if the purpose is superficial, I need to lo for it, like some ridiculous thing, like to get ready for my reunion. So you lose it, then you gain it back because there was no Big, bigger purpose behind it.
Yeah.
You know, and what's cool with, with that is, is you see that the importance of psychology, spirituality together with this. But yet when they're out in the world, they're totally disjointed. You can read a great Joel Osteen book. Well, that's over there. And then totally then there's a psychology book and it might talk about emotional eating, but it doesn't actually then come back to. It's almost like it ignores that, well, we still need to eat healthy. Okay. But recognize her. So you've, you've tied it all together, which is not something I've seen done anywhere. But yet when you really start to get this, you realize that the most critical thing that you have to do in order to be successful long term. Sure, anyone can go on a 10 day program, a 21 day program and have success. They get a little win, they get successful. But what differentiates someone who can do this for the long term can then do it as a role model model for their family. Because I see one of the most things here, you know, that determines someone's success is that key purpose. Tying in the connection. The community.
Yeah.
And then creating an identity around it oftentimes so that they either become the healthcare CEO for their family or they actually start to go out and help other people too. Whether they do it in a professional setting or just it becomes a personal passion. And then once they do that, they're continuing to peel that onion and they've locked themselves in.
That's right. That's right. Yeah. It's interesting and I love that what Lisa talks about. I think that it's so important and I think we're starting to see, look, there's never been much of a dispute between the connection that exists between the mind and the body and healing. Like it's been proven many, many times over. I think it's really fascinating. However, the things that are coming out now, I don't know if you've seen this or not, but there are researchers who now say that autoimmune, they believe that the trigger for that is, is trauma and that it's a disease of self hatred, which to me is just fascinating. And it's so easy once you have this information to see the direct correlations. But to answer your question about how do we start to take all of this information and put it all together and then use that to create this health for our family and for others? And this really came as just sort of through my own work, because when I would work with clients and I would do the food and the science angle. That was great. But I realized there were missing components and so I started adding in the psychology factor, the spirituality factor. And what we've done at ITN is created a five step process that, to make it easy for people because again, you know, it's, it can be a lot of information for people to absorb, especially initially. And if you don't have any introduction to these mental, environmental aspects that we're talking about, or the spiritual aspects, sometimes it can just feel like you're lost in the sea of information, you know, and it's, it's scattered everywhere. So what we've done is pulled it together in a simple five step method that you can use with, for yourself, for your family, for your loved ones. If you want to be a coach and you know, make money on the side or even start a whole new career, you use this system to walk you through creating essentially a personalized action plan for you or for your loved ones or for clients, if you choose to take that on.
So, and can we pop into. Because you, you mentioned psychology and what's so interesting is you, you nutrition, like, let's pop in really quick as to what, what does transformational nutrition mean? Because you created this, this is your term. What is it?
Yeah.
And then what's that third component that you kind of touched on? But let's go a little deeper there.
Sure. So transformational nutrition is truly the new science of personalized health. And what we've done is we've combined the science of nutrition with the psychology and spirituality of nutrition to help people understand not just what to eat for their body type and their health needs and their health conditions, but also to dive deeper and look at things like genetics, health symptoms, your birth story, and how all of those things impacted your health over time and continue to impact it. But that's not all like, that's just the science part. So then we move into the psychology part where we look at again, trauma. What are those mental triggers? What are the stressors that you're dealing with every day? Why aren't you focused on this bigger why that you talked about? Right. So, and also, you know, why is it that you know what to do but still won't do it? I think that's such a fascinating thing. It's like, even when we do understand what's going on and we do have plans to follow to get us back to optimal health, we sometimes don't just don't follow it. We just don't do it and why is that? And we explore all of that in the psychology pillar. And then the missing piece, even after I had those two things in place, was still a hunger for connection. I mean, connection, as you said already, it's so key that, you know, so we're so isolated these days and we are very separate. And getting back to that, having that relationship with yourself where you have meaning and purpose and values and you know, your worth, or having that those relationships with your community and others, or having that connection to something higher, a personal faith or religion, is really, truly critical. And so what we've done is taken those three factors and put it all together in a simple to understand system that people can take and essentially go through, look at the factors and understand on a very deep level not just what's going on with their health and their body or how they got here, but how they can overcome it in a way that is exciting and empowering. You know, gone are the days for us where you just get a plan and then you just accept it and follow it. We want you to be again that active participant because when you are, you're very empowered to take that action. If somebody else does it for you and just tells you what to do, do is very disempowering. And that's not what we're looking for here. We're not looking just to heal.
The minute you have to follow a plan. Like I think back to, I've been on every diet out there and that like as I started as a teenager, like obsessed with this stuff totally. And I still remember I, I had the food I was supposed to eat for the day and you know, and I just ate it all at once because I was like, you know, I just sat down, ate it all because I'm very goal oriented and then overachiever, right? It's like, okay, I'll just eat it down all now and I'm done for the day. Which of course didn't work. But then the other thing of just here's what you're supposed to eat, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was like, well, what I, I don't want that and I'm not hungry. Yes, but you're supposed to. And you get so disconnected from what you supposed to do when you, you actually stop trusting yourself. So this comes back to learning to trust yourself, learning to listen to yourself, really realizing that you're creating a dynamic plan for yourself. And it's not, this isn't like you do something and you're done because your body is not static. But once you learn how to go through this process yourself. This is also something that you can again, help your family members, help friends. Because I know what happens the minute someone starts to get these positive changes. Everyone's asking them what they're doing.
Yeah, always.
Right.
Yeah. And they end up coaching people without even realizing it or without getting paid for it, by the way.
Yes.
And, and honestly, when you have a framework, it's so much better because you can be, you can actually help people do that. So I know that you've put together a, you have a whole institute where you teach people, whether they're doing this to go deeper for themselves or to help other people or actually start a business. You've got the Institute for Transformational Nutrition. But I also know that you've got something for people listening. They're going, okay, this sounds cool, but like now I realize there's more to this than just what I'm eating, but where do I start? So where, where would someone start who's listening to this going, I, I, I hear you now what?
Yeah, that's a great question. And, and I think, you know, the, the key thing is just getting started, right? And, and starting this process. And we've made that really, really simple. So what we've done, because we know that people want to start with just a basic understanding of what these bigger concepts mean and how to, to put them into their own lives and how to get results right away. And so what we've done is created a two week course that we offer where you can dive into transformational nutrition. It's called Discover Transformational Nutrition. And it helps walk you through everything that we're talking about here. The science, the psychology, the spirituality and how that relates to you so that you can get results right away, but not that you have results for just right now and that you overcome your health, health issue right now, but also that you can plan for the future. You know, we want to be around for our children, we want to see our grandchildren grow up, our great grandchildren. And in order to do that, we're going to have to start taking steps right now to prepare for that. And if we don't have all of the pieces, and right now most people are missing two, the psychology and the spirituality of health, then we're not going to be able to do that in the best way. Best way. So, so part of this Discover Transformational Nutrition course includes that five step system that I shared with you earlier so that people can dig in, personalize it, reconnect to their body, their health, and again not just overcome their health issues, but plan for the future.
And it really is learning how to take all the pieces that you kind of now have floating around and put them into a system that you can use. And here's a couple really key things. Things. Last year, I interviewed my community, and I asked the question, if you're not where you want to be in your health right now, why not now? Cynthia, I thought would be because I can't give up my cheese. Right. Or my bread. Right. I figured it would be that. Nope. The number one reason was they didn't feel good enough. They didn't feel worthy. It was absolutely a. You know, it wasn't. It wasn't a matter of I don't know what to eat. The information is out there.
It's.
It's you. Probably most. Most people listening. Probably more information or information junkies. Yeah. So that's not the issue. The other thing that was key as Grant was going through his healing process was he got stuck because he felt like he had no purpose. So I've seen all of this. I've seen that, you know, how critical the nutrition is, but how critical the psychology is and how critical the spiritual side of it. They all have to come together in order for some division, be someone to be truly healthy. And then the other piece of it is understanding that, you know, this is the most important thing that you can do for yourself and for your family. I look back to Grant in the hospital and Dr. Daniel, Amen said to me, goes, your son would have died if it hadn't been for you. It was because I didn't just relinquish control to the doctors. And yet, yes, thankfully, I had all of this information and access, but we actually all do.
Yeah. Yeah.
I just made the decision like this was. I was in charge. I was in control. It wasn't something I was going to leave up to the. To the doctors. And had I. I mean, he would have been dead the first night.
Yeah.
So, you know, and it. That is just clear. So.
Yeah.
This isn't something that, like, it's. Oh, that sounds good. No, this is something that, you know, you need. There isn't a more important thing to take responsibility for. Right.
Yeah. It's everything. It's every. It's all you have.
Everything.
Yeah.
I love that you've created a framework so that people know exactly how to run through it and there's no excuses because it's free. So that's true.
Yes.
Yeah. Is. Is if you go to jjvirgin.com we'll make it easy. Jjvirgin.com forward/t I T N for our Institute for Transformational Nutrition. Very simple. So jjvirgin.com forward/ITN and you can jump into that free training. And I want to emphasize how critical this is to do now.
Yeah.
Because you never know. You know, I see for so many people, Cynthia, the thing that's holding them back in their life is their health.
Yeah.
And it's not that they're not trying. That's just that they haven't put all the pieces together and.
But they don't always know how. Is what right. No, I know they want information, and it's overwhelming. I mean, you tell people to look at the psychology and spirituality of nutrition. I mean, they could do this years.
Yeah.
So what we've done, what we've done, and I love that, you know, we're able to gift this course to your audience, is taken out all the guesswork and just put everything into a system, and all you do is follow it and you personalize it for you based on the step steps that we've given. It could not be easier for you to finally become an active participant in your own health.
Yes. Now I'm gonna throw a curve ball at you.
Oh, here it comes.
Here it comes, sister. All right. So what. What's the one thing that you do every day that you feel makes the biggest difference in your life?
Gratitude. 100% gratitude. So, you know, I think it's really easy. I'll speak for myself. It's really easy for me to get caught up in the day to days of my own own life. You know, we're all busy. We have children, we have families, we have jobs, we have missions in the world. And I think it's really easy to just keep trudging through life, even if you're having success after success or not, it doesn't matter. But being able to be grateful for everything in my life has. Has really. It's given me perspective, jj. It's taught me. It helps me keep the focus on what's really important in life. Like you, I've had many, many struggles that I've had to overcome, and having gratitude, even for opportunities, because sometimes I've had a really, really bad day, and we always do gratitude at dinner. We do it with our children, and everyone goes around and we says what we're grateful for that day. And sometimes I'm just grateful for the opportunities that are in the yucky things that happened in my life, because those things teach me lessons, too. So I would say, just having that perspective, being grateful, it keeps me focused on what's really important and I just, I would never give that up. It's just, it's so important to me. It's just become a part of who I am.
Excellent.
Well, that's what kept me going through the dark times with Grant, so I totally understand. That's a big part of what Miracle Mindset book is about. So, so with that, I want to remind everyone to go to jjvirgin.com itn get started on that class and designing your best health right now. No delays. Success favors the action takers. And Cynthia, thank you so much for joining me.
It's my pleasure. Thank you so much for having me.

Welcome back. This is the time where I answer a listener's question and today's question. You know, I always search through social media through our messenger comments, through anything that's posted in Facebook and Instagram, and we answer questions all along the way. But I always also look for the greatest questions to bring on the podcast, especially when they just fit so well with what we're talking about. And today's questions from Brenda in Sugarland, Texas. She says, jj, I have stopped and started the Virgin diet now five times. How do I get myself to see this one through? All right, you, you know, now why listening there's like why I couldn't resist this one here. And you know what, again, when, when I was evaluating, I sent out an email to the list to our community and I said, all right, if you're not where you want to be in your health, why not? And again, the number one reason was people didn't feel worthy. They didn't feel good enough. And behind that becomes a sense of purpose. And so what I've built into all of my online programs is when you start, whether you're doing the virgin diet, sugar impact diet. We have the books. And then for people who want to go deeper, we've also built these online programs because I find for a lot of people, they want more support. And one of the first things that I have you do is the key component of how I was able to. To help Grant get through what he got through in the hospital. And it's a key component of the miracle mindset book, and that is figure out your big why, your purpose. And obviously for my son, Grant, my big purpose was to help my son survive a near fatal car accident and recover from a traumatic brain injury. He was in a coma. And be 110%. So when you're starting the Virginia diet, the biggest thing that you have to make sure that you have before you do anything else is your big reason why. And it's got to be bold. It's got to be big. It should scare you a little bit because it's gonna get challenging. Someone's gonna say, hey, have some pizza, right? You know, you might be traveling and you're stuck at the airport, and you just, you know, think, gosh, I should just grab that cookie. You've got to have a purpose or reason why that will keep you going and stay on it while, you know, all of these temptations are around you. And without that, you're. You're doomed to fail. So that's the first start, Brenda, is to figure that out. If you need some help doing that again, you can jump in the online program or grab the book the miracle mindset, where I really go into talking about purpose. Okey dokey. Thank you so much for that. And again, if you'd like to submit a question, jump on my Facebook page. That's where we pull a lot of these off of at JJ Virgin official. And I also go on there and do my Facebook lives as well. And I'd love to connect with you. So jump on over there now. This is the gratitude portion of the show, and this is where I highlight a review every week. And, you know, we read. The whole team reads every review on itunes. It is really how we get our, like, kudos or pats on the backs. We love them. So that's a big hit. Hit to just go on there. If you're listening. Going, gosh, thank you for doing this. If you could jump on there and tell us, we would so appreciate it. And I'm just going to read this one. Here is the headline. JJ is the best. Five stars from Christian Siegel says her books have been game changers for me and I love her podcast. And thank you so much Christian. And thank you everybody for joining me today. I want to remind you you to take some courageous, inspired action. You heard a bunch of information today. The information's only valuable when you do something with it. So do something with it and then let us know the transformation that's had in your life. Alrighty. See you next time.
Hello listeners. This is Anne Bogle, author, blogger and creator of the podcast what Should I Read next? Since 2016, I've been helping readers bring more joy and delight into their reading lives. Every week I tag all things books and reading with a guest and guide them in discovering their next read. They share three books they love, one book they don't, and what they've been reading lately, and I recommend three titles they may enjoy reading next. Guests have said our conversations are like therapy, troubleshooting issues that have plagued their reading lives for years and possibly the rest of their lives as well. And of course, recommending books that meet the moment. Whether they are looking for deep introspection to spur or encourage a life change or a frothy page turner to help them escape the stresses of work, school, everything, you'll learn something about yourself as a reader and you'll definitely walk away confident to choose your next read, with a whole list of new books and authors to try.
