JJ Virgin says typical avocado toast is a "fat and carbohydrate bomb" that lacks protein. His fix: use one slice instead of two and add 4 oz of chicken breast. That cuts calories from 480 to 435 and adds 38 g of protein while keeping the healthy fats.

Seen it in the restaurants, avo toast. It's at all those healthy restaurants. Well, here's the deal. You get 2 slices of avo toast and you just got yourself a fat and carbohydrate bomb with basically no protein. Now what's cool is you get great fiber, and what's great is you've got the great healthy fats of avocado. But you know what the formula is for gaining fat? It's carbs plus fat, and that's what you got here. But fortunately, I have a solution because This is gluten-free sourdough with some avocado. This can be totally great for you, but not if you skip the protein. So you're going to keep 1 piece of avocado toast and then you're going to add in 4 ounces of chicken breast. And here's what happens when you do that. Now you've got a little less calories overall. Instead of the 480, you've got 435. But what's super cool here is you got some healthy fats, you got some gluten-free carbs with fiber in them, but I also added in 38 grams of protein because I have a little bit of protein in the bread and avo toast. So I took this from being a carb-fat bomb to a totally balanced, healthy breakfast simply by taking out some of the carbs and fat and by adding in the protein. Super easy to do.
