Hey, it's J.J. here. You know, I've been talking about environmental toxins forever, and laundry detergent is a sneaky one. A lot of them contain harsh chemicals like dyes, preservatives, and even UV brighteners. Those brighteners don't actually clean anything. They just coat fabric so your eyes think things look whiter or brighter. That's more chemicals I don't want on my family's sheets or skin. And if you've got sensitive skin or allergies around the house, this can be a big problem. That's what got my attention about Earth Breeze. It looks like a dryer sheet, but it's actually laundry detergent. You toss one in the washer and that's it. No pouring, no mess, and no heavy plastic jug. Their packaging is lightweight cardboard, which helps reduce plastic waste. And if you choose the fragrance free option, it's gentle, hypoallergenic, non irritating and non sensitizing. I really like how simple it is and how fresh and clean everything comes out without those unnecessary chemicals. Right now you can try Earth Breeze for up to 40% off with free gifts@earthbreeze.com virgin that's earthbreeze.com virgin for up to 40% off plus free gifts on your first order. Hey JJ here. Hey, it's JJ Virgin. And welcome to the JJ Virgin lifestyle show where I give you the latest cutting edge intel to help you look, feel and think better. Now, today's show is all about the things that you can do every morning to get your metabolism humming all day long. And this is a little bit different today because first of all, I'm the guest. But second of all, what I did was I recorded this live on a Facebook live, so it might be a little bit different, but I thought it'd be fun to have an audience. And and so again, today's show is all about metabolism boosters and the guest is me. So we are going to be talking now about the best way to start the day because this is super important. If you start the day wrong and we've all done it right, you start a blood sugar roller coaster that is super hard to get off of. But you also can just crash your metabolism. And one of the things I hear from people all the time is jj, I have a sluggish metabolism. Well, you may very well have one and we'll talk about that. But you also may be just doing some boo boos first thing in the morning that tell your body to store fat rather than burn it. I don't know about you, but the message I want to tell my body all day long is burn, baby, burn. Burn that body fat, hold on to and build muscle. And so that is the key thing we're going to be talking about here is how do you do that? And if you're with me, don't try to use age as an excuse. Here I am, 53, you can be leaner, fitter, better, more fabulous in your 40s, 50s and beyond than you were in your 20s and 30s because you don't do the stupid things you did in your 20s and 30s. Let's face it, you know more and but we do have less margin for.
Error, I'll give you that.
So that means that the morning is super important for starting the day off. Right. So one of the first things that I do and I'll kind of walk you through what I do in the morning and why these things can be so important. And then I'll walk you through one of the things I wish I did every morning, but I don't. Darn it. Maybe we can all inspire each other here to do this one because I always like to get people into action at the end of each podcast. So the first thing I do after I take my thyroid medication and I take nature throid I did take for a while. Now I take Westeroid as I actually have Hashimoto's is I pull out my gratitude journal and I write down three.
Things that I'm grateful for.
I do that every single day. But while I'm doing that, I am sipping my coffee. Now, I only use Dave Asprey's bulletproof coffee beans one because he's one of my best friends but and I totally trust him and he goes out and makes sure he doesn't have mold in his coffee. There's coffee beans are a really crappy crop and that a lot of there's a lot of pesticides that are used. It's one of the higher mold crops. Dave had a big issue with mold, with his health, so this became kind of one of his through lines is to find a coffee. That's where bulletproof, bulletproof was about finding coffee beans that didn't have mold and then also putting together this highly energizing blend. Now I will tell you, I pretty much have it black every morning. And one of the great things about having a little coffee in the morning and I can do bulletproof and it doesn't jitter me out like the other coffees do is it keeps adrenaline around and adrenaline helps your body burn fat. So it can be great before you're going to the gym, great before you're working out. It also helps improve insulin sensitivity so your body can hear insulin better and it can lower liver enzymes. So I'm always confused as to why we pull coffee out of a cleanse because there's great antioxidants in there and it actually can be good for your liver and lowering liver enzymes. Now, with anything at all, the dose is the it can be poison or it can be awesome. This isn't drinking five pots of coffee every morning. This is have a little bit and have a little bit before you're going to the gym. It's a great ergogenic aid because of keeping adrenaline around that will help you use fat for Fuel, but a little bit of coffee. Now again, I only do bulletproof when Dave himself or his team, they've been trained to make it the way I like it, which is I do bulletproof light, just a little bit of grass fed ghee and a little bit of, of MCTL brain octane oil. And Beth, if we can throw up the link we actually have, for those of you listening on the podcast, we will put in the show notes how to get, how to get this stuff. But I use bulletproof beans and you can use a little brain octane oil and that actually is great. One of the other key things you can do for your metabolism in the morning and you can put this in your morning shake. I should have brought you in the kitchen today with me, but I can't move this whole contraption is you want to have a little bit of a, of a thermic fat. And nothing is more thermic than, than MCT oil from coconut oil because medium chain triglycerides are very easy to burn. So that is one of the other key things that you can do in the morning to help boost your metabolism is you want to start out with, with a little bit of clean lean protein and healthy fat. Protein can help raise growth hormones. So that's key. And that protein, fat, little bit of fiber helps keep your blood sugar balanced. One of the key things that we want to make sure that we're doing throughout the day is, is keeping your blood sugar nice and stable. Not too high, not too low. Because if it goes too low, you're going to go rushing to go grab a quick sugar hit. If it's too high, then your insulin is going to pump out to get it back down again. And elevated insulin basically locks the doors to the fat cells so you cannot burn off stored fat. You should be able to when you are a fat burner, not a sugar burner. We don't want to be sugar burners. You want to be a sugar burner when you're working out, which we're coming to next, and I'll explain why in a moment. But you want to be a fat burner all day long. You want to be using stored body fat for fuel so that you can go four to six hours in between meals without needing to eat. If you're having to eat little bits all day long, you're not eating the right composition. That protein, fat and fiber trifecta that we talked about or you are, and that's generally it, or you've trained yourself to think because of the great urban Legend of the snacking brought to you by the snack food industry, by the way. Like who benefits from that that you need to eat every couple hours, keep your blood sugar balance. That doesn't keep your blood sugar balanced, my friends. That keeps your blood sugar up. Blood sugar up means insulin's up, insulin up, pro inflammatory, locking the doors to your fat cells. We don't want that. So balanced breakfast, good healthy fats, especially the thermic fat, medium chain triglyceride. And then, and I was telling you like I do my shake every morning, as you know and I especially love to do my paleo inspired one because it's got branched chain amino acids in it. It's got concentrated bone broth and I'll add a little bit of coconut oil in there and some fiber. I use my extra fiber and I use avocado. So I eat a higher fat, lower carb, high fiber, clean protein diet with bulletproof coffee, green iced tea and water. Got my water over here, right here. See, got everything around me and, and drinking lots of water is another way you can boost your metabolism. And what's really interesting is just even being 1 to 2% dehydrated raises stress hormones which you don't want. That causes you to store more belly fat. But drinking water and mine has a little ice in it all throughout the day boosts your metabolism. It can boost your metabolism as much as 30%. This is crazy. This is like a crazy hack that doesn't cost you anything. And quite often throughout the day when we think, think we're hungry. I'm going to challenge you to grab a glass of water instead because that is going to be and see how you feel. And I'm betting that you're probably not thirsty or hungry. You're thirsty. But we have a very bad thirst. Thirstostat. We've got a good appostat. It's overworking. Our, our thirst meter is not okay. The other thing that would be so awesome for you to do in the morning that I, I'm not good at, I will admit it. I tend to work out middle of the day and it's my old trainer habit when most of my clients worked out and they were done by 12 o', clock, 1 o'. Clock. And generally I had this weird dead time between 1 and 3 and I discovered that that was when no one was in the gym. So that was my primo workout time. And I kind of have stayed with that. Although now I do it sometime between 11 and 3. I work out. But ideally you would do some Burst training first thing in the morning. Because when you burst train, you are going to create oxygen debt that your body then has to work to recover from. Now, I like people to walk and move as much as possible. I don't count that as exercise. That's just life. We should be moving around. It should be part of life, right? In order for something to count as exercise, you should get hot, sweaty, and it should hurt a bit. Burstyle training is great because it raises growth hormone, but again, because of the lactic acid triggers the growth hormone response, but also creates an oxygen debt that your body has to work to recover from, which keeps your metabolism up. And that's what we want. And here's the difference. With high intensity interval training, burst training, or HIIT training, as it's known, and resistance training, you're not going to use fat during those workout sessions. You're going to use sugar as your primary fuel source. That's awesome. You're depleting the muscle stores of sugar called glycogen. And then after you work out, when your body is able to use fat for its fuel source, you're keeping blood sugar balanced and insulin low. You will replace. If you do eat carbs after you work out, which is when you should be eating them, they're going to go into your muscles and get stored again as energy. So the next time you're working out, you can work out hard again. So that's a key. All righty, let's see. And that brings me to one other thing that I want to talk about, and that is carbs. And we are going to be doing a show strictly on how many carbs should I eat? Because I get asked that all the time. If that's something you want to know about, I'd love to hear from you. And the Sugar Impact diet was actually created to take you through your own personal discovery process so that you can figure out how many carbs work for you, but the time you don't want to really hit the carbs hard. There really isn't a time we want to hit the carbs hard. But you especially don't want to hit them hard in the morning because when you're eating a higher carb diet, you're raising blood sugar, you're raising insulin, and you're blocking fat burning. The best time to eat them is after a workout. And I also like to have some carbs at night because it helps with boosting serotonin. Getting to melatonin and helping you sleep well can also help with testosterone production. But the Big thing you want to think about here with carbohydrates is that this is where quality matters completely and this is where we want to think of eating as close to nature as possible. There is a big difference between eating something like a bit of wild rice, which is really a grass, not a grain, and then white rice flour bread. You know, be careful with a lot of these gluten free things because they're still massively high sugar impact. And so in the morning, you know, I may throw in some green vegetables into my smoothie and every once in a while I throw in a little bit of fruit, but not usually. And depending where you are with my recipes, I give you fruit or not. But what I really want you to focus on in the morning again is protein, fat and fiber. And that's why I love the avocado, because the avocado's got great fiber and great fat. And I also use a little bit of my extra fiber supplement. So to recap the things that you can do to start the day off great and have a great metabolism and I'm going to tell you, I'm just going to go back to miracle mindset and say start the day in gratitude because if you are starting the day in a stressed out, you know, bad frame of mind, no matter what we tell you to do, you boost your metabolism. You've just set yourself up for a crappy day. So the first thing we have to do is set up your mood and that's how you start your day with gratitude. And again, pull out a journal, write down at least three things you're grateful for. And then little bit of black bulletproof coffee, mycotoxin free. If you like to do it bulletproofed, great, go ahead. Or green tea. And I love you to sip on ice cream tea throughout the day. When you have breakfast, which is an hour or two, within an hour or two of waking up, make sure that it's protein rich. That's why I love my all in one shake. That's the paleo style, which is concentrated bone broth with added branching amino acids. A good clean protein shake. If you're a vegan, I've got the plant based for you with some healthy fat. So avocado is great in there, a little coconut oil can be added into that and some extra fiber. And it's great when you can add green vegetables in there as well and then do a little burst training. Just hook up your metabolism, turn it on first thing in the morning, get it kicking. So that's a fantastic time. And if you can work out first thing in the morning, honestly, it's the best time to do it. For me, it's my creative time. It's when I like to do all my thinking, um, and writing. But if you can work out first thing in the morning, even better, because your cortisol's up, your testosterone's up, it's a great time to get your workout in. And the research shows people who work out first thing in the morning don't blow it off later in the day. So I find the best time to work out is when you will. But for so many people, this is really the best time to do it. And when you do high intensity interval training, this can literally be a couple of minutes. So you can just work it on in. I love to use my exerciser there. I actually brought it over. I'm in Palm Desert right now out my other house, so I brought my exerciser with me so that I could jump on and do it. I was planning to do it this morning. I didn't. But I'm going to do it tomorrow morning and I will report in and, and let you know that I did. But it's very simple to throw some bursts in in the morning. So, like, one of my recommendations would be to put the excise right in front of the coffee pot so you don't have a choice. How's that? Alrighty, that's a wrap on Facebook Live now. Thanks so much for joining me here. And after the break, I'm going to be answering a listener's so stay with me.

All right, welcome back. Now this is the time where I answer a listeners question. What I thought would be fun to do today with what just went down on Facebook Live is actually just to go on over and keep going with that and share with you what what happened after I clicked the off button on the podcast recording. And what happened next was we started to talk about what you could do with all of these recommendations. How should you start? And that was what kept coming up. Okay, how should we start? So I love to say that little hinges swing big doors and one of the biggest little hinges that I see people not doing regularly is water. So we all made a commitment on Facebook Live that I'm going to throw out to you as a challenge too. And that challenge is I'm challenging you to start to track your water because what you measure you can manage and improve. So the first step to getting used to drinking water every single day is to start writing it down. One of the first things I have people do when they go on the Virgin diet or the Sugar Impact Diet and jump into one of our online programs is I have them write down what they're eating and then the next thing I start to have them do is track their water. So that's what I'm going to throw out to you as a challenge is to make a decision that you are going to get your eight plus glasses of water in every single day, ideally in between your meals, first thing in the morning with a little lemon in it and then in between your meals. And I love a little lemon in it because lemon takes your sweet tooth away. It helps alkalize you and helps lower your blood sugar response to a meal. So it's the triple trifecta of awesomeness. But let's start recording that down because this habit alone can boost your metabolism, help you detoxify, and lower your appetite. I mean, and it's basically, it's free. Just make sure you're drinking filtered water and don't do those nasty plastic bottles. All right, there it is. The simple challenge. The water challenge I'm throwing on out there to you. Now, if you'd like to submit a question, just head on over to my Facebook page at JJ Virgin Official Plus. We do a lot of fun Facebook lives there. Come join on in. And I am going to now pull up. We're doing the gratitude portion of the show, which means I need to pull up the actual gratitude list of people. So let me tell you how this one works while I'm pulling this one up is what we do here is we jump over to itunes and what I so appreciate there is if you'd leave a review for me. And what I do is I. I jump over at this time of the day and I grab a review and I give you loads of appreciation and gratitude. And I've got one from case in AZ6. And she says, I've followed JJ for several years now. She offers so much information for free. I've done her diet program and found it works so well. Now I listen as often as I can to absorb more information. Alrighty. So thank you so much from that I read all these reviews. I can't tell you how much they mean to me. I super appreciate it and. And I would love to feature you. So again, pop on over to itunes and leave a review and I will send you some gratitude on the next show. And again, thank you so much for joining me today. This part of the show was all about taking action, and we talked about taking action by taking the water challenge. If you're feeling a little bit uncomfortable about, like, doing that, like, oh, my gosh, I don't know. Great. That's exactly where you want to be. You want to push out of your comfort zone every single day, because when you do, you build resilience and you can show up bigger in your life. I'm going to leave you with this little question to help open you up to more possibility. What, my friend, do you want to show up for in your life? All right, this is JJ Virgin signing off. Until next time. Make it a great week. Bye. Bye.
