JJ Virgin defends promoting weighted vests and continuous glucose monitors against accusations of grifting. He says weighted vests help burn calories and add spinal load, not build muscle, and that CGMs address a metabolic health crisis, not create shortages for diabetics.
I got called a grifter on Instagram for, for promoting weighted vests.
I was like, okay, what is grifter? Like, like a grifter?
I think it's a bad thing. I was like, this doesn't sound like a good thing. It sounds like that I'm some kind of like influencer full of— I just go, oh, bad me, bad me. I told people and I said, you know, I didn't say a weighted vest was going to help someone build muscle. It's going to help them burn calories and put a little load on their spine.
Is there a negative? I'm just playing devil's advocate because of maybe someone's spine is like very out of alignment, they put a weighted vest on and now they're worse. There's always— yeah, there's always a reason.
So there's always someone that something won't work well for. Oh yeah. Oh, and they'll find you on social media. They will find me, and then they're gonna like— oh, the first time I promoted CGMs, I got totally attacked. Yeah, because there weren't enough CGMs for the type 1 diabetics. I go, there's no shortage of CGMs. So we're like, there's not a shortage here. We have a metabolic health crisis. We have a way for people to start to really see the impact. I'm not following your logic, but you know. Yeah, you don't respond to that.
