JJ Virgin explains when to eat carbs for better sleep: skip them at breakfast, have them after weight training to refill glycogen, and eat a modest amount at dinner like sweet potato with pork. Carbs at night boost serotonin and melatonin for stable blood sugar and deeper rest.

if you're weight training, you're busy, you're using your mind, you're moving about, and then, you know, it's 11 o'clock at night and you're fried and you fall asleep and then you're up at 3 in the morning. I'm willing to bet that had you had maybe a bowl of rice with dinner, you might actually sleep a lot better.
This is one of those things that people don't think about that is such an easy hack for sleep. And personally, I find I do best when I don't really do much carbs for breakfast. I come home from the gym, I have some, and then I have some for dinner. Test it out. You'll sleep like a baby. But I especially like to do them again I don't really have much when I go to the gym. I do more of a protein hit. Then I go to the gym, have some carbs after I work out, help refuel my glycogen stores, then have some slow, low carbs at night. Like tonight we're having a little roasted sweet potato with slow roasted pork and some broccoli. And that just gives me great blood sugar supply, helps your body make serotonin, helps you then make melatonin, gives you a great night's sleep.
