A short talk advising authors to build a direct relationship with readers by becoming a consistent brand and minimizing intermediaries (traditional publishers, retailers) that block direct engagement. The speaker argues removing middlemen enables repeat purchases, referrals, and long-term value creation.

Want a transaction, a one off. They want to be influenced by you, they want to connect with you. And so for that you need a brand. So you're going to create something that people are going to be able to resonate with more than just a one off book. You have to become the brand. Your books have to become the brand so that they come back for more. Which means that you need to build a relationship with your reader. But I have a question for you. If someone is in the middle between you and your reader, do you have a relationship with the reader? This is where many authors struggle because they go to the traditional publishing houses and then they go sell on Amazon and the Barnes and Nobles, and they put all these middlemen in the middle between themselves and their readers. If we're going to be successful, if we're going to reach the masses the easy way, because I'm a nobody, I'm not getting on Oprah. I need to remove the middleman as much as possible so that I can directly engage with the reader, so that they can come back for more, buy more books, tell their friends, I create more value over time.
