Running on No Sleep, Big Dreams & a Baby Boy: The Week That Changed Everything

Two co-founders of Empire Blueprint recount a week of sleepless nights: a brother's baby was born, they crashed at the office, and juggled client calls and a new project producing content for an Australian version of Farmer Wants a Wife. They talk about building team culture while scaling fast.

No, it's fine. It's fine there.
Cool.
Another day, same shirt.
Another day, same shit. Another day, same shirt. Same shirt. It all feels like one big day at the moment. Lucky this watch tells the day. It's Friday. How are you?
I'm very good.
The real question probably is how am I? Yeah, I'm well. I'm tired though, so my apologies in advance if I slur my words or if I'm slower than usual. This day has started last night. Thank God my brother has given birth to a beautiful baby boy, and so I was able to be there to be supportive and to experience what that may feel like for me one day, and just to show my brother how much I cared and just to share in the joy of a new child being born. So we're really grateful that both child and mother are healthy. And I think I got into the office at 3:30 straight from the hospital. I actually haven't gone home. Little Miss Emma, we can see her over here. She's still sleeping, but she was here waiting for me. So yesterday after the video work finished, I went, I had a meeting, That's another video, so you can watch that here, about priorities and having to leave something behind that was profitable for the future of Empire Blueprint. So if you want to get an insight as to what it feels like and the experiences learned about trying to do too many things at once, I'd really recommend that you watch that video. But in any ways, in any case, yeah, so had the meeting, got a phone call, went to the hospital, exciting, nervous, didn't know how to feel. And then that was like at 9 PM. And then as I said, that wrapped up at 3, got straight here. I stupidly thought I could probably work, fell asleep on the computer, decided that I just have to nap on the chair like an old man. I'm not saying this is healthy or normal or okay, but that's what happened. Then I was up at 6 o'clock because it's quite cold. And then Emma was pouring at my face saying, hey, Daddy, I think it's time you actually start work again. So We've been, we've been here for 2 days straight at this rate, just getting it done. Yesterday was a great day. I thank God for all that he's doing and for the delivery of a beautiful baby boy. In terms of work, our plans for today are to play catch-up for some of the stuff we missed during the week because it was an epic week. We are playing catch-up and also getting ahead for a lot of the clients who engaging with us, with us at such a fast rate that it's beautiful. And exciting, but also scary.
So there's lots of content to come about how we deal with the emotions of that.
And then as a team, what systems and tools we're building to facilitate growth at a fast rate.
As many of you may know, we're a company that's trying to scale.
We've got a goal that we're going for, and the only way to do that is to actually utilize our time to the best of our ability. So really excited for today. Taking it a bit more chill and a bit more calm. We'll see the video at the end of the day. How things have played out. Till then, we're going to work hard, we're going to smile, we're going to laugh. Hopefully I don't cry tears of joy today. That's been a really emotional week. And then, you know, with the delivery of a baby boy, that's just been the highlight. So thank God, thank the team for all their efforts, and can't wait to catch up with you all at the end of the day.
Thank you.
I think he was waiting for that. I have something to add. Sorry, we touched on my clothes and my uniform the other day, and I said I have 11 of these same shirts. I can truly confess that this is the same one from yesterday. I haven't been home. I carry like my toiletries in a bag, so at work I was able to freshen up and brush my teeth and comb my hair. But yes, for anyone who was going to ask the question, this isn't a new shirt, it's the same one. I know the difference. That was all just being fully transparent. Thanks.
We just got off a phone call to a small brand with big dreams, and I think one of my passions, and at least I know this, is people. But God, isn't it just awesome when you work with people who are salt of the earth, which is not really a phrase I use, but just so genuine? So direct and really know what they want. Let's sit this hat here so it's out of my way because I think I'm going to be using my hands. How awesome is it when somebody knows what they want and how encouraging is it for us to actually be able to ride shotgun, you know, for that journey? But more importantly, to create an environment where people feel valued and heard, where they can actually share their dreams and ambitions and know that we are there to encourage and support them every step of the way. The reason for this video is We as a team can only do that for our clients because we're there for each other when we need it the most. It's been so humbling and so beautiful to observe when I needed someone on my team or they needed me that we always showed up for each other. We sat there in the mud, we laughed, we cried, we pulled each other through it, we pushed each other. God, sometimes we argued. Yet the bond that we created of caring in the workplace and creating that culture has allowed us as one team unified on a call to quickly portray it to the client because there is a sincere and genuine curiosity to understand who they are and what they are trying to do. And we know that feeling because we in many ways have not only walked it in the past but are still walking it. So there's an amazing sense of gratitude for that experience that we're actually getting to live that with our clients. But if you're a client who has a a vision, an ambition, and he's doing the work, but you just need people to support you, to ride shotgun, and just to be there for the journey. Whether it's consulting, whether it's asking a question, whether it's just being vulnerable for a moment and getting something off your chest that you really feel like you can't talk to anyone about. I'm not selling EB, that's just what we do. But I would encourage you, try and find staff, try and find people in your life that would support that and would assist that. So if you need it, we're always here. We've got nothing to sell. We're there to help for as much as we can. The point of a lot of this content is to share that business knowledge, but also share it from a really human point of view. What does it feel like when you're going through that process? When you think, damn, like, it's so hard, it seems so far away, but all you can do is dream and say, I'm not letting go of what I set out to achieve. We exist for you guys, albeit there's not many of us. But for those who know what they want, who are on their path to understanding what they're trying to achieve in their life, to what they believe is the best lived life, a successful one, and that's different for everyone. If you're going for that, we're here for you. Thank you.
How much profit I've made on each job, we just sort of run through it.
Yes, because when we got Dropman 1, my plan was to roll out the whole system.
As soon as I get my head into it, something pops up and I'm like—
I know, it's so hard to like, especially when like you just got to run your business and we should just come in and do the backend. You work on you, we'll work on us for you, and then we'll meet up at the finish line. Optimization.
Yeah, that's where we're at.
Yeah, I want to be. And just, yeah, now rehash with me timelines. You said it's important, not urgent, but it's a priority. Hi, what's that?
Do I look that bad?
Uh, do I look as bad as I feel? I'm tired. But thank God I'm good. Big week, big day.
Yeah.
Thank God it's Friday. Here we are giving you a quick recap. We're gonna make this short and sweet. It's been a massive week, probably one of the biggest weeks of my working life. Still holding the marker 'cause I was just drawing stuff on the board. So yeah, it's just a recap for how the week was and what we're gonna try and do over the weekend, which is get rest. I don't really get much rest and Yeah, looking forward to the next one.
Let's go, let's do it.
So we found what the problem was yesterday and we found what the solution is. The solution has been found, not fixed yet because I've just run out of time, so I was prioritizing more important tasks. We've got somebody coming to help me tomorrow to get it fixed. Yeah, what a week it was. Um, filming, sales. Let's try and pick up the pace on this. What a week. Filming, sales issues, tech difficulties, a child was born, sleeping on the office floor, getting it done, and here we are.
Wow, what a week.
Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. Everything that could have gone good went great. I got to experience my happiest days followed by like my biggest, most challenging days at the same time. For those of you who've been watching throughout the week, Early this morning, my brother had a son, which was like awesome for us, awesome for us as a family. So that was beautiful, and that was backed by 1.5 hours of sleep in the office floor with my dog, because that's just how the day happened. So that's how we're finishing off the week. I normally don't take breaks, I pretty much work 7 days flat out, but this weekend I think I've gotta be sensible and actually slow down before I burn out. So to anybody watching this who's experiencing like, I've just gotta keep doing more, and there's this like, crazy compulsion to keep going. Life happens, man. It's probably not a horrible idea to slow down. At least don't slow down because anyone told you to, but know your own limits and know to take a break when you need to because you need to. But only you know when. So although other people will tell you what they think you want to hear, like, you do you. Just be mindful that, like, you're not a machine and you're a human. Word of encouragement to those who want one or need one and don't know: you've got this, we've got this, and God's got us. So Breathe, get through it, rest, and just like keep grinding away. Like there's only one way to the other side and that is just to keep going. Corporate Cowboy is where hustle meets horizon. I don't know that I like the words daily grind or hustle, but where hustle meets horizon is where it's at. Next week you're gonna get to follow me from the office onto the back of my horse, riding him off into the sunset. We're filming content for the Australian version of Farmer Wants a Wife. That's really exciting. We get to explore a bit of a creative side, but also put forward a video that I think— I mean, I applied for the show and didn't get on, and so I think what I want to do is do my own version, send it to them and say, hey, this is the ethnic version of a farmer that you missed out on, as opposed to all the white people that you've got on there. So I'm looking forward to that. You should be too. But yeah, keep working at it. Rest up when you need to rest up and always take stock of the week that was. For us, we had everything from challenges to trials and defeats, but then some of our best days. Hold that dear. Keep going. Do not stop. Just enjoy the ride. This is a short sign-off. There's nothing to add. I cannot wait to sit with my dog on the farm, just sit on the grass and kind of just chill.
I think I've earned it.
Till next week. Stay safe. Can someone help me come up with a freaking sign-off? Here's a competition for anyone watching. Caption this. Yeah, make as many memes as you want. What should be my sign-off? We're turning it to you guys because I can't figure this out. I need your help. I keep playing with this goddamn thing to like look cool. It's not working, although I wear it all like it's my hat. Someone Someone find me a cool sign-off. Like, you tell me what you want to hear. I don't care what it is. We're taking comments and submissions.
Bye!
