John Rodrigues taught 475 designers how to make design systems work with AI coding agents. Without one, AI produces low-quality output at scale. Netflix and OpenAI are hiring for this skill, but there's no playbook yet.

So around 475 designers registered for my AI Ready Design System Masterclass yesterday. And the thing is, I feel like the design system is getting its spotlight back in this age of AI. Because no matter how good the model capability is, without the context— design system is almost like a context to the coding agents— without that, they're going to ship AI slop at scale. And no, I've been doing like cohorts for a year now. It's been 10+ cohorts. And only the one question people kept asking is, how do you build a design system? Or how do you work with design system? And that's the question that kept coming in again and again. But I think we are in a transitional phase. Even our studio, we also developed this agent-ready design system called Florence and learned a bunch of things from that and been sharing that through a masterclass and workshops and things like that. But if you see like Netflix, OpenAI, and all the top companies are now prioritizing hiring design systems designers with like AI readiness and how to make it. I think there's no playbook for it and I'm working on developing it. But I think this is a trend or something to look into as a product designer or a design engineer or anything like that to focus on design systems and specifically making it AI ready.
