Moonshot AI released Kimi 3, a language model that costs 70% less than leading competitors while performing only 3% worse. John Rodrigues says the gap is small enough for building AI agents and coding, and expects cheaper open-source models to lower barriers for AI development.

Moonshot AI launched one of their best models called KIMI-K3, and it is 70% cheaper than some of the best frontier models out there. So the gap between the best model and KIMI-K3 is 3%. So it should not usually affect your using it for building agents, for the coding and stuff like that. I'm eager to try that out in my Human AI studio. And one thing that goes, one thing this tells me that we are definitely heading more towards like open source model and cheaper models.
