Welcome to the Secret Sauce of Outsourcing podcast that's dedicated to making you better at outsourcing to the Philippines. This is episode 139. June 12th is a regular holiday in the Philippines. So I'm a little bit behind. I just got back from a month in Europe. I've talked about this before. On June 12, I was in Austria. And so this is a little bit late, but I feel like this is still important and still relevant for a couple reasons. So, number one, Sunday, June 12, was Philippine independence Day. It is a full, normal holiday, just like the 4th of July in the United States. Everybody's off work on this day. Independence Day in the Philippines is when they declared their independence from Spain in 1898. So not like super, super long ago. This is where this is kind of interesting. So the house where they declared independence is still there. It's now a government museum. The flag that they first waved is still there. They still have that flag in. And then there's this commemorative plaque remembering the day. I'm going to read you a little bit of this plaque. Site of the proclamation of Philippine independence. On June 12, 1898, Philippine independence was proclaimed from the center window of the original house of the family of General Emilio Aguinaldo, President of the first Philippine Republic and leader of the revolution against Spain in America. So this goes on, but the reason I'm reading this to you is because in English, the plaque on the house in the Philippines is in English. And this is. This is pretty common, like, stuff is done in English in the Philippines. So this year, Philippine Independence Day fell on Sunday. Which reminds me of another question that I got asked by another reader. If a holiday falls on a Sunday, do they celebrate it on Monday? And the answer to that is, no, not anymore, they don't. And the reason is because. So the Philippines used to do that where just like we do, if a holiday falls on Sunday, we then bump it to Monday to give people a day off of work. Philippines doesn't do that anymore because they have so many holidays. And the government decided, yeah, we're not going to do that just because there's too many holidays already. And this is creating too many days off of work. So if it falls on Sunday, then you're just out of luck this year. Next year it'll be different. If you want to keep up on what holidays are coming up in the Philippines, we have a calendar that you can subscribe to, like in your Google calendar. We maintain it every year so that there's all the holidays they'll show up in your calendar and then you know ahead of time what stuff's coming. You can find that at onlinejobs. Ph Holidays.
