Hello and welcome to the Secret Sauce of Outsourcing Podcast, the podcast that's dedicated to making you better at outsourcing your work. My name is John Jonas and this is episode 45, the Philippines holiday calendar for 2022. So I know it's late December, but if you're like me, you're probably not doing much or you're not working much, but there are still things on your calendar. Family parties, events, things to do. I usually have zero things on my calendar. From Christmas, the day after Christmas till New Year's, I try not to do anything other than ski. Speaking of calendar, we just updated the holiday calendar that we maintained for the Philippines. So if you don't know about this, you can go to onlinejobs PH Holidays, which will talk all through holidays and paid time off. And it also has a link to a calendar that we maintain that you could subscribe to. So it's a Google calendar. If you subscribe to it, it will put all the Philippines holidays into your calendar so that you know when there's a holiday. Also this year we just updated that calendar to include special marking designations so you know what kind of a holiday it is. So let me just tell you what these special markings are that we added. So number one in bold. Before a holiday title you should see like rh. RH means regular holiday. Regular holidays are the ones that almost everybody observes in the Philippines. These are holidays where you offer paid time off. Banks would be closed in the US if you need to make them work on a holiday, you should pay them more. The next designation that you'll see next to a holiday would be snw, which is a special non working holiday. So it's not quite the same as a regular holiday where everybody gets off and you pay them if you pay them regardless, special non working holidays are followed like the no work, no pay principle. So they're entitled to take the day off if they want. You don't necessarily have to pay them. For us, we let them take the day off if they want. Not everybody takes the day off. On my team, we pay them regardless. So if they work, they get paid. If they don't work, they get paid. And often I think what we'll find is that they will work some of the day, not all of it. So that this is like, I want to say like a Veterans Day in the US where a lot of people are still going to work, but it is a holiday. Then you have. The third designation that you'll see on the calendar is sw, which is a special working holiday. This is a day where basically everybody works. It's just something that Filipinos note on their calendar to commemorate something. It would be kind of like Halloween. It's a working day. Everybody works this day, but it's still there. St. Patrick's Day would be another one. So on these days, I wouldn't expect to have anybody take the day off. If they did, we would still pay them. This is up to you. If you're paying hourly, I certainly wouldn't add anything to it. So the benefits don't apply to everyone. Like if we're going to pay someone on a holiday, this doesn't apply to if you're paying hourly. Well, if they don't work, they don't get paid. And that's one of the reasons why Filipinos generally prefer to work a salaried position, because hourly means you have to work. So again, you can get our holiday calendar at onlinejobs.
