Hello and welcome to the Secret Sauce of Outsourcing Podcast, the podcast that's dedicated to making you better at outsourcing your work. My name is John Jonas and this is episode 62, a terrible video that my ofs published as a lead into this last week. We had an amazing ski day with my 8 year old. Says to me, dad, this has been the best day, right? And then on our last run down, he kind of struggles a couple times and then we're all stopped in a group at the top of this, top of this ledge, and he comes over and he kind of wobbles and he falls and he's spread eagle, face in the snow, just a wreck. Like, he starts to cry and I have to hobble over and pick him up because he couldn't get himself up. And he wasn't like going fast or anything. He just got tangled and fell on his face and his legs were all spread and he's frustrated and he's helpless and I have to go do it for him. And that's where I was yesterday with my ofs. So here's what happened. Last year I started this podcast and I started it just recording audios, and that was great. But I realized after a few months of doing it, like, wait a minute, if I'm recording the audios, I should probably be recording videos because that publishes to YouTube and that makes really easy training content in another place, like one more place of distribution, right? Which in the Internet, that. For marketing, that's everything. Like, how much distribution of your content can you get? So I start recording these podcast episodes. It's video. And then we publish them on you. We publish them on YouTube. And it requires almost no extra work on my part, except as they published episode 54 yesterday, which is like the 20th video episode that they did. They told me it was completed, sent me a YouTube link. I clicked on it and looked at it and I was horrified. Like, this video starts mid sentence with me and it's like. Which is how I felt because of what I just talked about. And I was like, what just happened here? And I rewound the video and started again, which is how I felt after what I just talked about. Like, wait a minute, this is the video that you guys just published. I was so frustrated, I immediately sent them a message in caps, do not publish this. Which it was published, but it was private, so it wasn't like fully published yet, but it was. It's also like my afternoon, and I don't know if it's gonna publish in a few Hours and like they're asleep. And so anyway, I, I asked them, like, why did this get published? Why did it, like, what made you think that this was an acceptable video to publish as a podcast episode? Like episode 54 and you start in the mid, mid sentence. And this wasn't just like one person, this was multiple people involved in this. This like, makes me look so dumb is what I said to them. And so I was frustrated. About three hours later, the video was taken down. The correct video had been created and, and everything was fixed, right? So I thanked them for their work and I wrote this email and recorded this podcast. So here's what I did. So I talked about this for two reasons. One, I want you to know this is not all roses for me. Like, I think people often think they're the only ones who struggle sometimes with their ofs and like, no, I struggle too. Sometimes. They do things that, like, why? This makes no sense. How do I get buy in from you to look at this and say, like, yeah, this video really doesn't make any sense, but I'm gonna publish it anyway. Because he just says to publish these videos, right? Like that. No, don't do that. Right? So I said to them, look, I want. Well, first of all, I made a change. This is the second thing reason I'm talking about this. I made a change to the way we do things. Like, no, I want two people to look at something before it gets published every time. And one of those two people is not me. No, two of those two people are not me. I want to be the third person that looks at it. And I want you guys to look at this and say, does this look right? Does this make us or John look good or does it make us look dumb? Is there something wrong here? Is everything correct? Does, like everything look good? If they'll answer those questions, it should solve the problem, right? Well, this is yesterday, so I don't really have an answer to you. I'll probably have a follow up on whether or not this is working. It has worked elsewhere. This is a new place where I am in implementing this process of like two people look at it. Does this make me look good or do I look stupid or does John look stupid because of this? So we'll see if it works. Oh yeah, by the way, I almost forgot. So all three of these things that I'm doing are only possible because I have these ofs working for me. So my newsletter number one that I, that I write, actually I don't usually write it. They write it and I edit it or I add to it. I tell my stories and I give my advice. Or often I'll dictate something as an idea that I have and then they will write it for me. So the newsletter is only possible because of my OFS. My entire YouTube channel is only possible because of them. I would never have done either of those things had I not had them working for me and allowing me to just kind of create content, to just push it off and then they take care of the whole thing. This podcast is the third thing that's like, oh, yeah, there's no way I would have ever done this. In fact, I put this off for years and years and years because I just didn't have the capacity to do it. There were other things that I was doing in my business and it took me a while to like push other things off to other people and then to realize, like, okay, if I do this podcast, I can really just push this off to them. And so, yeah, I can record videos. I can record a five minute video and be. Or a five minute audio even, is what I thought. I can record a five minute audio and I don't have to do anything else, which is basically exactly correct. I don't do anything else. I just record five minute audio. So three things. The newsletter, I do very little. The podcast, I do very little. And then that allowed me to record videos for YouTube and get further distribution on my content, which is a win, win, win with almost zero effort on my part because they're doing all the work for it. So it's really, really good.
