Ep. 89: How To Find OFS With Technical Skills

Welcome to the Secret Sauce of Outsourcing podcast that's dedicated to making you better at outsourcing to the Philippines. This is episode 89 how to find OFS with technical skills so I recently got this email from Brian Wallace. He runs an IT company in Miami and here's what he says. He's interested in hiring technical, technically skilled people, but he's having a hard time finding them. He says Any tips or approaches on finding more specialized experts in technical areas? In my case, it's tech support, network engineering, the cloud, AWS and Azure, et cetera. But I imagine others might be looking for experts for their own businesses. The schedule and cost advantages or even lack of local talent can be just what's needed. So this is not an uncommon question. However, it's pretty simple to find these people. There are tons of people with these skills, especially like tech support or network engineering or even AWS or Azure cloud experience. I mean I have tech support people on my team. I have a systems admin person on my team who is an expert at aws. These technical skills are not hard to find. So let me just tell you what I did. I did a quick search on onlinejobs PH for network engineering. I did a quick search for tech support for network engineers. I got over a thousand profiles back and I searched Network Engineer in quotes. There's so many profiles for AWS search, AWS, thousands of profiles. Azure. I found about 700 people all on Onlinejobs ph so if you're still really having trouble finding technical people, here are some reasons maybe why you're having trouble. So one. Maybe your job post wasn't attractive enough. Maybe people didn't like it. Maybe the salary was too low. Maybe you posted TBD as the salary. If you posted TBD as a salary like to be determined, Filipinos often don't like that. They want to know like going in what the salary is and so they won't apply to a job with not that they won't. You're just likely to get fewer applicants. Maybe you need to post the job post again. Online jobs gets 10 to 20,000 job posts a month. Often if you don't get very many applicants and you've tested the other things, your job post wasn't attractive. You put a good salary often. Maybe your job post just got buried like it got posted in the same 20 minutes that 50 other job posts got posted and yours just kind of got pushed down and people never saw it and they didn't search for it. You didn't use the right keywords Just try posting it again. Very often this will solve the problem. Another thing to do is to try proactively contacting workers. Like search for things and then look at profiles briefly and contact 20 or 30 people and see who responds. Then hire among the best available person. I often contact many people because just because they have a profile on onlinejobs ph does not mean they're available to work. So I will not go in and look for the best person. Like look for the best profile and then contact that one guy because if they have a job, they're probably not going to respond to you. Filipinos are too loyal for that. When searching on onlinejobs ph, try putting your search terms in quotes. That'll just give you better results. Right now we're working on our search algorithm, but right now if you put it in quotes, you'll get better. You'll get better results. Basically the gist of this is yes, you can find technically skilled people, tech support people, super easy. There's so many companies in the Philippines doing that, training people, and then they don't like working in the office, they want to come work from home. People with cloud skills, AWS or Azure are plentiful. Programmers are plentiful. Design people are plentiful. Like this. This should not be very difficult to find this kind of person.
