#101 - How to conquer the night.
22 Dec 2020 · 16 min
In this solo episode of the Jorge Cruise Show, host Jorge Cruise introduces a new paradigm for controlling nighttime cravings for sugar, carbs, and salty snacks. He argues that traditional calorie‑counting advice is ineffective and that a deficiency in sodium and other electrolytes drives hunger, especially after dark. Cruise explains the science behind sodium’s role in suppressing appetite, cites NIH studies and the book The Salt Fix, and offers a practical “salted drink” recipe containing 1,000 mg of sodium, cocoa, and a low‑calorie sweetener to curb cravings. He promotes Elemental Labs electrolyte packets (including a chocolate flavor) and Dr. Tess’s collagen tablets, providing promo codes and URLs. Cruise also advertises his upcoming 19‑day Zero Hunger Plan challenge starting January 4, promising rapid weight loss by eliminating carb cravings through electrolyte balance. The episode concludes with calls to subscribe, leave reviews, share the podcast, and join the “Zero Hunger Revolution.”

Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, and I'm the number one New York Times bestselling author and leading fitness, nutrition, and peak performance trainer to the world's busiest celebrities. You may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, Tyra Banks, Kelly Clarkson, or even Dr. Oz. My career started because in my early 20s, I was out of control and addicted to sweets, carbs and salty snacks, and experts told me to simply count calories to get control. They were wrong. My passion to get control of my hunger led me to find simple ways backed by science that would turn off physical hunger as well as my emotional eating instantly, and I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. Well, happy Tuesday everyone, it's Jorge and welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. This is the number one podcast to help you get radical control over sugar, carbs, and salty snacks. This show really is all about really giving you those tools to take control back and not let sugar, carbs, and salty snacks out there, whether it's potato chips, one of my favorites, or corn chips, whatever the chip is, uh, whatever the salty food is, it's usually tied to some carbohydrate. And I always have to tell all my celebrity clients, and I'm gonna tell you the same, that it's It's not the salt that's bad. The salt's actually the best friend out there that we have. And, uh, it goes against everything the experts have told us. So really, this podcast is to help, I think, create a revolution. In my head, it's more than a podcast. It's really about understanding a different paradigm when it comes to weight loss and losing weight. It has nothing to do with what we've been told for 40+ years, which is count points or count calories. Um, you know, it's really about understanding that your body requires certain electrolytes, minerals, essential minerals like sodium to turn off hunger. So today's a special show. It's the winter solstice, which means it's the longest night of the year. And what we're going to be talking about on today's show is how to conquer the night, whether it's tonight or whether it's any night where you feel like, oh my God, I'm out of control, I'm overeating. And you're obviously, you tell me, tell me the truth, you're overeating sugar, carbs, and salty snacks. It's not eggs and a steak, and it's not, uh, you know, things like that. We never crave fats and proteins. What we crave are carbohydrates, especially at night. And if we're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, whatever it is, because of COVID-19 or not, this is what we turn to. And it's not that we're bad, you know, and it's not that we're crazy. It's not your fault, really, because it is the only macronutrient— carbohydrates, that is, and sugar— that raises this thing called dopamine. And serotonin in your body. So it's designed to make you feel good. And if you're— whether you're wiped out, tired, stressed, scared of something that could be happening next year, because my goodness, you know, there's so much going on that is a little chaotic in our world. Whatever the reason, you're going to be drawn to things that help you, as some say, survive. And, uh, so it's not your fault that you like carbs. It's not our fault that we like sugar. I include myself in that. But I will tell you, there's an off switch. And today we're going to be talking about how to conquer that— the night, the longest night. So happy Happy winter solstice to all of you, and happy, uh, Christmas on Friday. I'm super excited that this is a week that you're listening, and thank you for listening and sharing the podcast with your loved ones. So before we dive into how to conquer the night, I need to give thanks to our sponsors. This episode is brought to you by Elemental Labs, so big shout out to them. They are one of the best companies out there that I've discovered in my entire career. They make this incredible electrolyte that has the very sodium we're going to talk about today, and they even have a chocolate drink that we're going to, you know, I'm going to show you how to make it at home, but, uh, so you can make it, uh, literally tonight with what you have on hand, most likely. But more importantly, if you are a busy person, Elemental Labs has these little packets ready to go with the perfect 1,000 milligrams of sodium, the magnesium and potassium we need, and in flavors that are absolutely delicious— from chocolate, like I said, to a lime one, an orange one. They have a raspberry one that I'm very fond of. They got some delicious, delicious options out there, and The man who created this company, Robb Wolf, also New York Times bestselling author, is giving us a $45 value when you do a value bundle. You basically get a free box of these electrolytes and you can customize the bundle too. You can have all chocolate, you can do lemon lime, chocolate and orange, you kind of do whatever you want. So check this out, go to drinkelement.com/jorgecruise. To figure it all out and get your value bundle. I'll spell it for you. It's drinklmnt.com/jorge, and that will get you hooked up. And thank you to Rob Wolf on that, because I really think this is— if I had to pick one product I, I would have to have for the rest of my life, it's this one. It's that good. So check it out. Elemental Labs, thank you for being such a great supporter of the show. We're also brought to you by shopdrtest.com. Now, Dr. Tess is America's favorite dermatologist. She is Stanford trained and in a nutshell has created a tablet that has the most incredible form of collagen that's going to keep your skin looking gorgeous, youthful. It's going to help your nails, your hair, all that. But if you're losing, say, 50 or more pounds, it's going to help you recoil skin elegantly so you don't have sagging skin. And collagen, up until recently, was complicated to make. You go back 20 years, 15 years, you had to boil bones literally in a crock pot or something like that. And get the bone marrow out of the bone. It was incredibly time-consuming. And this format in a tablet, I take 3 a day and you're done, you know, because it takes time. And whether you like it in a natural form or a tablet form, this is just darn convenient so you can do it consistently. And so check it out because Dr. Tess, she is giving us 50% off to all the listeners of the Jorge Cruise Podcast. So I'm super excited. The promo code is DRTESS, one word, and the website again, I'll give it to you. Shopdrtesse.com. That's shopdrtesse.com, and the checkout code is drtesse, all one word, D-R-T-E-S-S, for 50% off her product. It's called Lively Healthy Skin, and it's fantastic. I use it every day. Finally, we're brought to you by my website, zerohungerplan.com. And Zero Hunger Plan, uh, we're launching our next challenge, 19-day challenge, on January the 4th. If you're interested in losing up to 2 pounds a day, this is the plan. This is what I have— I would say it's the culmination of my 20 years in publishing, 25 years as a trainer, and it's probably the most radical way to get control over your, your sugar and carb addiction, uh, in a group setting with me live. And we start on the 4th of January. We just concluded a group. I had one gal, Barb, who lost 21 pounds in 19 days. So you exceed this, and obviously you're going to drop on many days up to pounds. And, you know, as you lose the weight, you're going to get this momentum where you also— not— it's beyond weight loss. It's really about creating this energy in your body and really a different paradigm from going from counting calories to not worrying about that, to suppressing appetite so you feel great. And more importantly, you lose weight quickly. So if you're interested in that, get on our waitlist. It's live right now. Just go to zerohungerplan.com and sign up for our next challenge. We'll be emailing you guys next week, uh, if you're if you sign up. So do that today, and it's totally free to sign up. All right, so with that said, let's get to conquering the night, guys. Uh, I mean, it's kind of fun that tonight is literally the longest night of the year, meaning the shortest day of the year, and it's getting dark here in California as I speak. So if you're ready to conquer the night, I'm going to challenge you to do the following. I want you to make tonight this 1,000 milligrams of sodium drink. I call it a salted drink. You don't have to do it in 32 ounces of water. It will be saltier if it's, if it's in less water, but I think it's super delicious. Really, salted chocolate for me is like everything, and it's so easy to make. Now, the core of all these zero hunger waters is 1,000 milligrams of sodium. Now, the best sodium out there is from ancient sources, whether it's underground or up in the Himalayas. So try to get a clean source, because if it comes from a salt lake or something like that, it can be contaminated with plastic. So you want to be careful of that. So get yourself— and basically, here's the easy conversion: 1,000 milligrams of salt is basically half a teaspoon. Half a teaspoon of salt, easy, right? So get half a teaspoon of sodium. If you're gonna do 32 ounces of water, do that. You can warm it up, make it warm, boil it if you want. I wouldn't make it that hot. And then what I would say is Navitas is one of my favorite companies out there. They make a keto cacao. Half a teaspoon of that is super yummy, super low carb, high-fat, healthy, but get some sort of cacao that you can get. You may have this at home already. And then add either stevia or monk fruit to taste, and that's all you need. This is basically a sugar-free, natural, plant-based sweetener. I wouldn't use a lot of it, but, you know, a couple drops, or if it's in powder form, half a packet. And basically stir, and you will have literally the most delicious salted chocolate drink that you can drink all this winter, all through the Christmas holiday, all through the new year, all through January, February, until spring is sprung here, until it gets warmer and all that. But it is the ideal way to conquer the night because remember, sodium, we're so deficient in this, and this is counter to everything we've done. So for those of you who want the science, I'm including in the show notes. So when you listen to the show, if you're on Apple, just check out the show notes, um, or if you're on Spotify, you can see them there as well. But we're going to include the actual science links so you can read literally the science behind this, because this is nothing I've, uh, created in the sense of scientific research. This is studies that I have found by reading books like The Salt Fix, by talking to the author of the book. We did a podcast with Dr. James, talking to Rob Wolf, my friend who creates Element Labs, and all that. And you're going to discover how salt Health deficiencies increase hunger. This is from the National Institute of Health. They've written all this. It goes counter to what the American Heart Association says. And remember, if you didn't listen to yesterday's podcast 100, I give you the recipe to make the more simple zero hunger water that's kind of a lime lemonade kind of version. But regardless, I talked about this yesterday, and the truth is that everything we've been taught about weight loss is wrong. This whole counting calories paradigm doesn't work. High fiber diets don't work at turning off hunger. And it's really a salt deficiency, a sodium deficiency. And so check out the show notes, today's show notes, because you can read from the National Institute of Health, their article about this. It's really a journal study. And I'll include some other links too that I think are gonna be eye-opening. And I would share today's podcast with anyone you know that is struggling with underlying health conditions. That's a nice way to say weight, weight issues, right? Because that's the 2020 way of saying that. Because we know that leads to higher incidences of COVID-19. It makes things harder on your heart. It makes things harder if you are concerned with diabetes and even certain types of cancer. So get to it, guys. You can do this. It's a simple way to conquer the night. And let me know how it works for you and give us some reviews on the Apple Podcasts if you can, if this helps in some way, because I always want to reach more people and I can only do it with your support. So please share today's show on social media, copy the link, paste it into Twitter, share it on Instagram, share it on Facebook, and let's create this revolution together. And I hope you'll join me on January 4th for our next 19-day ZeroHungerPlan.com challenge. All right, guys, peace and purpose. Have a great winter solstice. I'll see you tomorrow. Take good care. All right, today's episode is complete, guys. Thank you so much for listening, and I want to ask you to please subscribe to the show. On Apple Podcast, uh, and please leave a review on Apple as well.
