#111 - The Meat of the Situation
16 Feb 2021 · 17 min
In this solo episode of the Jorge Cruise Show, host Jorge Cruise outlines his "Zero Hunger" approach, which centers on a 23‑hour fasting window (which he avoids calling “fasting”) that he claims can enable weight loss of up to two pounds per day. He explains how to break the fast, emphasizing a single, high‑protein, animal‑based meal—most often a ribeye steak with butter—as the optimal way to turn off hunger, rebuild muscle, and support longevity. Cruise contrasts animal protein with plant‑based options, arguing that plant proteins are less satiating, cause gas, and contain lectins or other toxins that can lead to bloating and inflammation. He references several “carnivore‑friendly” experts (Robb Wolf, Paul Saladino, Shawn Baker, Mark Sisson) who share his view. Throughout the episode he promotes his proprietary electrolyte blend (Zero Hunger Water/LMNT), Julian Bakery low‑sugar treats, and his Zero Hunger Plan coaching platform, urging listeners to sign up for free coaching sessions and live programs. The episode ends with a call to action for subscriptions, reviews, and spreading the "Zero Hunger Revolution".

Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, and I'm known as the number one weight loss strategist to the world's busiest celebrities. I'm also a multiple New York Times bestselling diet author with over 30 books and 12 million fans. You may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, Tyra Banks, Kelly Clarkson, or even Dr. Oz. My career started in my early 20s because I was a addicted to sugar, carbs, and salty snacks, and experts told me to simply count calories to get control. They were wrong. My passion to get radical control over hunger has led me to find a study-proven way that creates Zero Hunger and helps my clients drop 2 pounds each day. And I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Zero Hunger Revolution. Well, happy Tuesday, guys. It's February 16th. I'm Jorge, and welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. This is home of the Zero Hunger Plan as well, where you can drop up to 2 pounds a day. Uh, the way we do it is you get radical control over your sugar, carbs, and salty snack foods. Underline the word snack food addictions. Uh, and yeah, they're addictions. Hey, food is a drug. Uh, it is probably the most overutilized drug out there. Carbs specifically, because no one's overeating protein and fats. It's sugar and carbs and snack foods, potatoes and corn chips, etc. Yeah, there's salt on it, but the salt's the good guy. We talked about that yesterday on episode 110. If you didn't hear that, uh, my sodium electrolyte drink with magnesium potassium called Zero Hunger Water is the culmination of my 25 years in fitness. It is literally probably the most important, um, discovery in my life. The, the combination of these 3 minerals, uh, sodium magnesium, potassium. We dedicated the whole show yesterday, episode 110. Listen to it, guys. If you feel like you have no control of your hunger and you are, because of COVID or nighttime eating or whatever, just have zero control over your hunger, it's time to turn it off. You'll get total control over it. We have zero hunger, and you can, you can literally go 23 hours without eating if you choose. I have certain people that use it for, you know, maybe 16 hours, 20 hours. I have people that do it for 3 days. It depends on your goals, you know. And I do food every day. I usually eat in an hour window, so I have 23 hours of non-eating. 6 or 8 of those are sleeping, right? And then the rest, I'm busy, I'm active, I'm at the gym, I'm working, I'm with my kids, my teenage sons. I'm very busy and I have tons of energy with no sugar, no orange juice, no oatmeal, no berries, not even a peanut. Guys, Zero Hunger Water will turn off your hunger. Go check it out, yesterday's episode. Today we're talking about what to do when you close the 23-hour window of fasting. That's the F word, I don't like using it, but there it is, fasting. 23 hours of a zero hunger window sounds better to me. And so what do you do when it's time to eat and you have an hour? I usually do that around 5:00 PM, sometimes 4:00 PM. For me, you're gonna discover on today's show how important protein is to the diet. 'Cause we're already eating healthy fats throughout the day, and you can do that while you're fasting. I have butter in my coffee, you guys have heard about it. So that's not a big breakthrough. Fat is the only macronutrient you can enjoy while you're fasting. Carbs and protein will break it because they raise insulin. So if you got to pick out of those two, when you break your fast and you close a 23-hour window of fasting, what the heck do you eat? And it's probably the question I've been getting— oh my goodness, I've been an author now and publishing for 20 years, for 20 years, uh, as a trainer. A lot of people, uh, Don't think trainers know nutrition. Uh, you kind of have to. You have to know as a trainer that— I mean, no offense to other trainers that believe this. Even my dear friend back in the day, 20 years ago, Richard Simmons, believed this, that you could sweat off the weight. But you can't out-train a poor diet, Richard Simmons. Sorry, I love you, but you can't. And for any trainer that has people going to the gym doing cardio, HIIT training, and all that, which I love, don't get me wrong, I love HIIT training, with the intention of losing weight, you are wasting your time. It's 2021. We all know that fitness begins in the kitchen. And when I mean that, it means with what you put in your mouth. And it's also about not putting things in your mouth. It's literally about creating a zero hunger window of 23 hours where you allow your body autophagy, which is a gift which rebuilds your body, repairs your body, keeps you young, extends lifespan. I mean, that was yesterday's show. So when it's time to end that and it's time to now eat, what do you eat? So it's going to be all about protein. You're going to discover how important protein is on today's show. Um, we're going to talk about everything from plant-based protein versus animal-based protein, big huge difference. And I was at Rubio's in San Diego just this weekend, and they have this meatless burgers now. I'll give you my opinion in just a minute. Before we start, uh, the show that I got to give thanks to our sponsor. So very special thank you to Elemental Labs. I love Elemental Labs. They create the on-the-go version of Zero Hunger Water. It will turn off your hunger for 2 to 3 hours. I drink these when I'm literally traveling on airplanes or whatever. Not that I do that as much as I used to. I'll take 6 packets with me and I'll fill them up easily with 32 ounces of water. And they're amazing, delicious. They have everything from chocolate to lemonade. And lime to orange. I mean, so many flavors. This is the URL, guys, to get the free box of electrolytes. Go to drink— D-R-I-N-K-L as in Larry, M as in Mary, N as in Nancy, T as in Tom— element.com/jorge. J-O-R-G-E. It is powerful. It is probably best work I've ever done, and I want you guys to join me. So check it out, guys. All right, with that said, it is time to start the show. So the question today that I want to answer is, what do you eat? What do I eat? What do we eat when it's time to close a zero hunger window? Now remember, zero hunger window is 23 hours without using the F-word— fasting. A 23-hour fasting window. What do you do when it's time to eat when you're breaking the fast? And it's not oatmeal, it's not waffles, and it's not Kellogg's Corn Flakes. Sorry, Harvey Kellogg, it's not. He's the man that created the word breakfast. But how you break your fast— and again, I don't like using that word— so how you close the zero hunger window is easy: high protein, guys. Now, the debate: how high do you want fat in it? Do you want carbs? You want all three, sure, but you want 90% of your diet probably to be high protein. I'd probably say the rest be healthy fats, you know. And for me, I'll tell you my favorite source in a second here. Animal-based, of course, uh, but a ribeye steak, oh, with salt on each side, you basically put it on iron cast grill I have here at home indoors, easy. I don't even put the barbecue. 5 minutes, 6 if I want it well done, on each side, and it's done. It's delicious. It's the perfect ratio of high protein and fat. Delicious. It's literally the one-stop meal for everything. Even Robb Wolf, who's a biochemist who's been on the show, also agrees with me. And I think Paul Saladino, the author of The Carnivore Code, agrees with me. Dr. Shawn Baker, the author of The Carnivore Diet, agrees with me. My buddy Mark Sisson, nutritionist, superstar, bestselling author, agrees with me. This is what people are eating nowadays to turn off hunger and to keep your body healthy. Because remember, protein, when it comes from an animal source, it's going to help rebuild your body. Now, we'll get to plant-based nutrition in a minute and plant-based protein, but remember, healthy protein, guys, will help do many, many things. Number one thing, it's, it's the building block of of muscle, and muscle is what gives our body shape. It's what keeps us looking young. It's what you, when you go to the gym, you work out to build lean muscle, maybe heart health, mental health as well with the serotonin and dopamine, but it's important to have this protein. You need protein in your life. That's what protein is for. It also reduces ghrelin, which is a hunger hormone, so it turns off hunger. So it's also a very satiating meal in that way, and it's, in my opinion, and the opinion of people like Robb Wolf, probably the most satisfying macronutrient. It really, really is. Now, now let's talk about plant-based protein. You know, whether it's a pea protein shake— I've done those, used to sell them— to lentils— I'm sorry, I've had them. They don't satiate my hunger. It's not substantial. You end up getting gas if it's plant-based. Pardon this, but most plant-based foods— and I learned this from Dr. Paul Saladino, the author of The Carnivore Code— have lectins, or they have some sort of toxins in them to protect themselves from us eating them. So they give us indigestion, they give us bloating, they give us gas. I have clients that eat spinach and kale. I mean, there are a lot of celebrities in Hollywood like Beyoncé that make this their base. They're people that follow, um, The Medical Medium, and they drink celery juice. Oh my gosh, it's so toxic. It's crazy how these green vegetables make us feel bloated. And yeah, if you're not eating anything else and you're just doing celery juice, you're going to drop weight, but it's not healthy because you're going to get inflammation, you're going to get bloating. It's not a good diet. Now, am I saying all vegetables and fruits are bad? Not really, but I don't eat a lot of them. I mean, I'll have an avocado every day. I do love avocados. It's a fruit, high fat, uh, doesn't have protein, really not a good source of protein. Sorry, vegans. Uh, I like squash on occasion. It's just a lot of work, so I don't do it. A dessert type of fruit is berries with heavy cream. That'll do. I usually do frozen berries, get them at Costco, big bag of them, easy. But again, guys, it's going to be your meats. Now you're thinking, what kind of meats can I eat, Jorge? Is it just ribeyes? Is it just red meat? Is it just beef? Those are the most satiating probably, but you can do chicken, you can do fish. I will say that chicken, you want to go darker meat if you can, has more fat. But if it's the white meat, You can always add butter. So you can't do pheasants and poultry and all that, nope, no question. Fish, I'm always concerned about fish. I have avoided it for a while, unless it's sardines, the small ones. I'll do that when I go hiking or something, but they smell, oh, they smell bad, right? But big fish can have mercury poisoning. My buddy Tony Robbins had that so bad that he was hospitalized, literally in a wheelchair, from mercury poisoning. From eating fish. So I, I don't eat a lot of fish. I really don't. I don't eat a lot of chicken. It's just a lot of work. I just love a ribeye, and I know that seems boring, but it can be great. And it doesn't have to be grass-fed, and you don't need to have organ meat. There's a lot of debate on that. Listen to my episode with Paul Saladino, Robb Wolf, Shawn Baker. They kind of debate it all out. I'll let you decide based on whatever show you listen to. But for the most part, it's red meat. It's going to be the most satiating the best protein out there. It's what I recommend to all my celebrities. It's what I recommend to my clients. It's what I'd recommend to you. And there's ways to enjoy it, so it's not just all meat. You can do the squash, like spaghetti squash, and then you have like a carb lover's night. Mediterranean, you can lean into the chicken and fish if you want. You can do sauté onions. You can do little things like that. A lot of tricks. When we open zerohungerplan.com, we're gonna have menu plans for all of these types of menus. So everything from the true meat lovers to the carb lovers, to the Mediterranean. And they're all gonna have protein in there because you need the protein, guys. It's what's gonna turn off your hunger. It's what's gonna give you that power to rebuild your muscles. It's what's gonna make you feel good. It's the best, the best food you can have is protein.
