#132 - Carb Swap: Beans VS Soup
18 May 2021 · 12 min
In this episode of the Zero Hunger Guide podcast, host Jorge Cruise (the "Zero Hunger Guy") introduces his central premise that "sugar calories" are the primary driver of hunger and overeating. He explains his proprietary "sugar calorie" formula (carbohydrate grams × 4 = sugar calories) and sets a target of 100 sugar calories or less per meal to achieve appetite control. Cruise then conducts a live carb‑swap demonstration, comparing a can of black beans (18 g carbs per serving, 72 sugar calories; 252 sugar calories for the whole can, up to 600 in a Chipotle burrito) with a zero‑carb bone‑broth soup (0 g carbs, 0 sugar calories). He declares the soup the clear winner, noting its protein, collagen content, and skin‑health benefits. Throughout the episode he promotes his Zero Hunger Water Plan, a hydration protocol that includes electrolytes (via Elemental Labs) and encourages fasting up to 23 hours for rapid weight loss. He also plugs sponsor Primal Kitchen’s avocado‑oil mayo, positioning it as a high‑fat, anti‑inflammatory hunger‑suppressing condiment. The episode concludes with a call for listener engagement: email food swap requests, subscribe, leave 5‑star reviews, and share the podcast to help grow the "Zero Hunger Revolution".

Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, but I'm also known as the Zero Hunger Guy. I'm a celebrity fitness trainer and a multiple New York Times bestselling diet author with 12 million fans. You may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, Kelly Clarkson, or even Steve Harvey. My career started because I was addicted to sugar, carbs, salty snacks, and stress, and experts told me to simply count calories to get control. They were wrong. My passion to get radical control over both physical and emotional health has led me to find science-proven shortcuts that help my clients drop 25 belly inches or even more fast and permanently, and I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Zero Hunger Revolution. It's Wednesday, May 18th. Welcome to the Zero Hunger Guide podcast. I'm Jorge Cruise, and there's one thing that makes me angry and upset, and that is sugar calories. And I'll tell you why. Sugar calories is what causes our hunger to go from here to here. And if you want to control your sugar and push it back down so you're in charge and you don't overeat, you've come to the right podcast. This is the podcast that's going to give you radical control over sugar, carbs, salty snack foods, and even stress, because the number one thing we overeat when we're stressed is sugar and carbs. So today I've got a great show for you guys. We're going to cover— uncover, I should say— hidden sugar in a carb swap demonstration I'm going to do with 2 simple products you may have at home. Soup. Where's soup? Here's soup. And black beans, especially if you like Chipotle. You're going to find out how much hidden sugar is in these babies. I'm going to show you the sugar calorie formula, because it's something I wrote a couple of years back. And if you understand health and you understand hunger control, you've got to understand that sugar is not your friend. Sugar is what— feeds your appetite. Carbs, sugar, and a lot of it is sugar that is hidden in food. Here you're going to find out that today on today's show, guys. Our goal is 100 sugar calories or less. That's what's going to give us greatest appetite control, uh, and we're going to talk about that on today's show. So I'm super excited for the demo, guys. Um, being that it's the week of the 17th of May, yesterday we were out, and I just want to mention this before we start the show, uh, First Roman magazine. This is the 17th, May 17th issue. Pick this up, guys. You're going to learn how to drop 25 belly inches That is my program. That is the Zero Hunger Water Plan. And that's really going to teach you how to turn off hunger, because as much as you want to eat low sugar, you also want to make sure you drink enough Zero Hunger Water, which turns off hunger further and allows you to fast up to 23 hours, you know, and really drop up to 2 pounds each day and drop up to 25 belly inches as well. So all that we're going to be talking about. The show, the magazine is out, guys. Before we get started, though, I want to give thanks to our sponsors. We are brought to you by Elemental Labs. I love Elemental Labs. They make the Zero Hunger Water. On the go for some of us that may be a little too busy to make it. Uh, it's a super simple recipe. The magazine will show you how to make it. But if you want something quick and easy on the go, they are giving us— Elemental Labs— a box of electrolytes that basically mimic what I make, uh, and it's ready to go. It's these little satchels, little packets. You just tear them, add them to 32 ounces of water, and you have delicious options with no sugar, all sweetened with stevia or monk fruit, which is thumbs up on my book when it's with 32 ounces of water. And what I would suggest is chocolate. I love it. And they're giving us a box of these electrolytes, a $45 value for free. You simply need to go to their website. It's drinklmnt.com/jorge, drinklmnt.com/jorge, and you get a free box when you order the value bundle. Get chocolate. It's my favorite, but they have other flavors, lemon lime. They have one that tastes like Tang. It's orange. They have a new one for summer that is so delicious. It's watermelon. Watermelon, my favorite. So check them out, guys. We're also brought to you by Primal Kitchen, which I love. I have Primal Kitchen every single night. I put a dollop of their mayo, high fat, um, on my steak when I eat that. It's made with avocado oil, so it's not inflammatory. Most mayo, most salad dressing is made with canola oil, which, I'm sorry, makes me mad because sugar makes me mad, but so does canola oil, soybean oil, corn oil. It is inflammatory. It's the devil. You need to avoid that, especially if you're like me, over 50, and you want to keep joints good. You want to make sure your hair, skin look good. You got to avoid canola oil, soybean oil. All those oils are very toxic. They're hugely inflammatory. Primal Kitchen is made with avocado oil, and they're giving us a free bottle of the Lemon Chipotle Mayo, which is my favorite. It's what I put on steak every single night. It is delicious. I put a dollop or 2 or 3, and it turns off hunger. More high fat turns off hunger. Healthy protein turns off hunger. And so this is a great option. It gives that flavor. Just makes it, makes it so, so good. So check it out, guys. They're giving us a free meal. Love and Chipotle. Simply go to primalkitchen.com/jorgecruise. All one word. primalkitchen.com/jorgecruise. C-R-U-I-S-E. And that is that. All right, guys. With that said, let's get to this carb swap demonstration. I'm excited. I've got my, my options right here. Check this out. If you're listening to us on Apple or Spotify, you can always go to my YouTube channel, the Zero Hunger Guy channel, if I can talk. Here or Instagram for the IGTV version. But basically, let's start with black beans. This is just a can of black beans. This is about how much beans it's in half a Chipotle burrito, which you think beans are healthy. Why? Because we think, oh, we look at the can. Sick. Look at this right there, guys. 6 grams of protein. Not bad, you say. It's got protein. 3.5 servings per can. So quite a bit of protein. And sugar, we look at sugar, less than 1 gram. We say this is a fantastic pick. But this is not how we do it, guys. Found out your sugar calories, this is how you do it. You forget the sugar, you forget the fiber, forget those two. You look at total carbs. Now I'm going to break your, um, your happiness here in a minute here, because it has 18— let me point to it— 18 grams. 18. You can see that there, 18 grams of carbohydrates per serving, and there's 3.5 servings in here. This makes me mad because when you do the math, times it by 4 calories, 18 times 4, guys, is 72. Yes, 72 sugar calories for 1 serving. If you were to eat the whole can, it is 252 sugar calories. If you go to Chipotle and this becomes a burrito, that is one of those big ones, you are looking at 600 sugar calories. You are allowed up to 100. So, yes, you can have 1 serving of these. I don't mind that, but that is nothing. That is not, that is not filling and it is full of sugar calories. So, it is going to make you hungry. So I'm sorry, black beans, you're out of here. There's no way we're having this on the plant. See you later. Check this out, bone broth soup. All right, Kettle and Fire. Love Kettle and Fire because they make all sorts of varieties of this. This is from beef, uh, they have chicken as well. And if we flip to the side, the protein is good here. It's actually a little better than the beans, 10 grams of protein, 2 servings in one of these containers. But what I love is we jump to total carbs It's zero. Zero makes me happy. I don't get angry. I smile. I'm just a happy guy. The Zero Hunger Guy is happy when he sees zero total carbs. Uh, very happy. You should be too, because zero is— makes my life easy. I don't like math, but times 4 is zero, times 2 servings is zero. So this has zero sugar calories, guys. This is the winner. Yeah. Kettle and, uh, Kettle and Fire, thank you. Black beans from Trader Joe's. Uh, see you later. Your belly bad, your belly good. This is our choice. This is going to turn off hunger. It's also made with protein from a bone broth, which is bone marrow collagen. It's going to make your skin look great. It's going to be beautiful. You're going to feel your best. You're going to have nice nails. You're going to have nice fingers. You're going to have beautiful skin. You're going to look pretty, and it tastes delicious, guys. So clear winner here today, guys. I hope that helps. If you want me to review other foods, please email me right now. Shoot me an email. Yeah, you can email me. I actually read these emails.
