#14 - How to To Drop 19 pounds of belly fat in 19 days
1 Jan 2020 · 57 min
In this episode of the Jorge Cruise Podcast, host Jorge Cruise chats with guest Shayna Taylor (Shayna’s Kitchen) about practical health and lifestyle strategies for the New Year. They discuss the importance of setting clear boundaries around eating, including an intermittent fasting window (6‑9 pm) and how substances like CBD, alcohol, and medical marijuana can impair the frontal lobe, leading to overeating. Jorge shares his personal routine of limiting these substances Monday‑Thursday and using yoga and red‑light therapy (Clearlight) to support sleep, skin, and collagen. Shayna promotes her hemp‑based products, farm‑grown candles, and healthy New Year’s cocktails featuring matcha. They also touch on media consumption, agreeing that keeping TVs out of the bedroom improves sleep. The conversation wraps up with a call‑to‑action: listeners are urged to share the podcast, leave 5‑star reviews, and subscribe to the free Jorge Cruise Report newsletter for weekly shortcuts on exercise, nutrition, and intermittent fasting.

Wow, literally it's the last Monday of 2019. I'm kind of like in awe of that. I'm just so excited that was at my side here. I'll let her say hi. Do you want to say hi to everyone? Hi everyone, it's Shaina, guys, from Shaina's Kitchen. She is back. We've missed you. I know, we haven't seen—
for having me back.
Well, Please, the best way to start January, or the way to end the year and start the year is with Shaina. Tell them a little bit about your background, Shaina, and if you guys hear some toes tapping in the background, we're recording in my apartment in New York City, and Cherie, the little redhead, isn't she precious?
Yes, she's the cutest ever.
For all you pet lovers, Shaina has a couple furry babies too.
I do, I have 3 at home.
What are your babies' names?
Oliver, Panda, and Georgia.
Oh, wow. So, well, how have you been? Give us an update and tell them, remind them, Tell them what you do with that, give them a little, a little spiel and all that, because, you know, you are— I believe, like, and I've said this before, we've had so many great conversations about health, but I feel like we need new leaders in health, you know. And right now our world is not well, you know. And I'm— I feel like one of my friends in Malibu is Jillian Michaels, and she's— we're about the same age, and she always kind of talks about how, you know, because I'm 48, I'm gonna be 49 next year, I'm kind Shock, I'm almost 50, but I joined the AARP too, by the way.
Well, you look amazing. Well, thank you.
I try, but you know, Jillian laughs that we were caught in these generations between people that were old school. Like, she remembers Jack LaLanne, the godfather of fitness, who started fitness and all that on in the '50s on TV, on CBS. He was like the first person to use media to promote health, anything, you know. And now We have, I mean, you know the world because you're younger. Shayna's in her late 20s and, you know, an old soul to say the least, but we see a lot of people on social, whether it's Insta or Facebook, whatever, that have just, there's millions of people that it seems that are teaching health and fitness and so it's constantly—
Yeah, it's actually a good time to live right now, to be honest, because I think that so many people are over feeling bad or feeling gross or manipulated by the food world that we're supposed to be eating certain things and promoting in a way that actually is only for them to make money and not really honest of how it's supposed to treat our bodies. Like when you think of the dairy industry, I mean, we were embedded in our brains to drink milk, drink milk, it's good calcium, it's to build bones.
Almost like you're a bad parent if you can't buy milk.
No one even can digest milk. I know, it's crazy. And you know, same with all the processed foods, like microwavable dinners. It's like as Americans, we've become lazy cookers and no one wants to cook in their home because they've been brainwashed. But that hurts.
But it's honest, right, Shana?
But it's honest, it's true. 'Cause we've been brainwashed into thinking that Cooking is hard because just buying the finished stuff is so much better, but that's— but we've been brainwashed. That's the marketing of all these—
it's like a conspiracy, you know, that started with the breakfast world. And I'm working on— I haven't shared this with you, but we have to catch up. I'm working on a documentary called The Breakfast Conspiracy Theory, and it's about how in the Victorian time period people— and to point a finger, not that I like to, but Harvey Kellogg and his brother created the cereal industry in 1906, and he wrote an article for Good Housekeeping. And I work for Hearst, and they do Good Housekeeping and Prevention. And we'll mention the COVID of Prevention magazine, you saw it with my 19-day weight loss plan. But back then, Harvey wrote this article for them in 1906 and coined the word, the first American to say, to put two words together and make a new word, right? We do that a lot now, right? People make up words. Of course, yeah. But breaking the fast, break fast, with the two words, right? Two words. And he glued them together and created a new thing. And what is breakfast now? It's a billion-dollar industry.
Jorge Cruise.
It worked. That one article worked.
Look at the egg industry. They jumped on that bandwagon.
Totally. And then they partnered up with the milk industry, and we've been eating cereal and milk forever. It's like gave you a reason to want to drink milk. If you didn't like it, you put it in your cereal, and it's sweet. It makes sense. But the lactose— like, how many people are lactose intolerant?
Pretty much every single person. They just don't— some people are reactive, have more reaction to it than not. Yeah.
And I get— I remember years ago when Dr. Andrew Weil, or Weil, do you know him with the white beard? He looks like Santa, you know. Yeah, he's cute. He was not cute. He's a respected Harvard-trained physician, Dr. Weil. I'll Google him for you so you can see him. Super great guys. And he and I have been friends for forever, 20 years, Dr. Weil. And Dr. Weil talks about casein and how casein really He's got this vibe. Oh yeah, yeah, Dr. Andrew Wild. Oprah and him are big friends and all that. He's 77 years young.
Alternative medicine.
Yeah, he's amazing. And he got me to realize that casein, the protein in milk, and lactose, for me when I was a kid, caused asthma. So I had issues. Did you have issues too with dairy? Dairy? Or—
I, I mean, I, I mean, now as an adult, I cannot— there's no way I could have dairy. I mean, as a kid, I had cereal every day, and I was obsessed with cereal. I was one of those kids that like would would pour so much milk in their cereal because they like to eat all the cereal and then there was milk left, you'd pour more cereal until the milk was gone. I was one of those kids. And so I mean, yeah, of course as a kid you don't really understand how much damage it's doing to your body but as I've said on my Instagram and also I think a couple times of the podcasts we've done in the past. I'm in the health industry mostly because one, I love it but two, because my body has forced me to become healthier because I've had so many struggles as an individual with stomach health, with scoliosis, with, I mean, like you name it, I've somehow been through it. Yeah, so it's been a trial and error of trying to fix my own body and then obviously trying to help people that have similar issues that I have and all the things that I figured out that work for me. But dairy being one of the biggest ones. I mean, I can't, if I have dairy now, like if someone asks, first of all, I can taste it in one second. My whole mouth is like, "Mwah!" If I have to. Yeah, if someone like doesn't do the vegan latte or something, I'm like, "Oh my God." And you like the almonds? Almonds or almonds? Yeah, I do. Hemp is definitely— it's actually hemp is the easiest milk to make.
Never had it.
You never had hemp milk?
No. We're gonna have to go get a glass.
It has the most nutrients out of any vegan milk that you can drink, so it really is the best milk option.
I was going to say save this for a minute because what we're going to talk about today is our New Year's resolutions. And I'm not saying you have to give up dairy on this podcast, but I do feel like today— I mean, it is— I mean, we're looking at the calendar here and I'm, I'm still in denial that the year is ending year.
Can you believe it's gonna be 2020? Like, I remember being— and I'm, you know, 27, about to be 28— but I remember being in school in the early 2000s, thinking like, when I would see that number of like 2020, you would think of like spacecraft, spaceship, futuristic.
Yeah.
Oh my god. I'm like, wow, it's 2020. And that's definitely not the case, but it does feel crazy that we're in 2020.
And Shayna, you know, guys, I mean, I feel like so lucky because we're gonna start now the actual talk about her resolutions, because we're here to talk New Year's resolutions. And I feel like I'm, you know, I feel like we're such a Will and Grace of sorts, right? I'm definitely the older guy and you're the young beautiful girl, but you're an old soul. And I feel like an anchor of health. I'm a little more, you know, I'm Latin. I don't know if us Latin guys or Latin people were a little more— we have more flair. Not that you're not full of flair as well, but I'm a little crazy, you know. I'm a little wild and fast talking. Not that you don't keep up and do great, but I feel like It's so great. I always love being with intelligent, strong, like, anchored women that understand this. And it's confidence. It's your experience and your hardships. I mean, that's your story. And you have this incredible— you are— or your Instagram and website, this Shayna's Kitchen, which I think is brilliant, and then your own site. But share with them in a nutshell your story, and then let's get to resolutions, because I feel like Shayna, you know, she's Shayna Taylor. She's been on this podcast so many times, and we will have her the month January. So I'm so excited. And I know this week is insane for you because not that you need to get into your personal life, but you're gonna be with your other half, Mr. Ryan Seacrest.
Okay, that's, that's why—
talk about— of course.
Yeah, I mean, this is why we're— I'm so glad it worked out because, you know, I'm not in New York for a long period.
Like, we were traveling all over the place because now she's an advocate, truly a lifestyle coach when it comes to health, and she runs her office both coasts like I do. You're in LA and I'm in San Diego and Malibu, and then I come to New York a lot, more New York-based now. And you're kind of both coasts, right?
It's hard because, you know, my employees and my— where I film and everything is in LA.
Yes.
My relationship isn't here in New York.
I'm the same.
But then I also work with like Hearst and I also do things here. So it's, you know, there's— there's— it's just— it's hard to balance. That's actually— I mean, I'll tell you guys a little bit about me before we get into New York.
Yeah, do it real quick. Give me a minute.
My first neurosensation is trying to balance it a little bit better and do what's for me. Anyway, so I am owner and creator of Shayna's Kitchen and also Bottle and Stone. Shayna's Kitchen is a health and wellness lifestyle blog that also is kind of a lifestyle brand now. I'm selling my own matcha, which is my first product, and then I'm getting into shampoo and conditioners and natural, I plan to be kind of the Martha Stewart of wellness industry, giving you products that you can actually trust.
High five on that, Martha. Not that Martha is a little older, but we'll say she has been here for a while. God bless her.
She is, she's great. What she's done is incredible. I respect her a lot. She's just not in the wellness section. She's into just the everything lifestyle in itself.
She was more about the aesthetics of the home and all that. She isn't a wellness person. Herself, although she is very healthy for her age. And, you know, talk about managing stress— she went to jail and everything and came out smiling still.
Now she's doing stuff with Snoop Dogg. I mean, I, I respect that woman. Yes, I respect her.
Nothing stops her.
I know, I know. So, um, anyway, my, my story is I was an organic— I guess I still am a chef now, but I used to be. I went to culinary school, uh, worked as a personal chef for multiple people in LA, and then kind of high-end people. Yeah, and then when I moved to New York City with Ryan 4 years ago, I dropped the personal chef work. It's just too much to balance both our schedules, and then really started focusing on the health and wellness blog and growing that because I didn't really have the time.
Yeah, so tell them the blog URL, the blog, plug it real quick.
@shaynas.kitchen is Instagram, or shaynas.kitchen.com, and then Bottle and Stone is @bottleandstone or bottleandstone.com. Bottleandstone.us. And Bottle and Stone is a CBD organic, uh, company line which will be launching, uh, probably the end of January, February.
Yeah, I'm so excited for that. I know, I've— we've had some discussions about it and it's changed my perspective about hemp. And I've been using more hemp now, or CBD oil. And, you know, and for a while my doctor had me do medical marijuana and was too strong. It would give me a little bit of a hangover feel or cloudiness in the morning. But when I use CBD, it really, and we have a lot of my clients, we were just doing a stream for yoga today, and they're using CBD, and I think it's becoming, there's less shame now, don't you think?
Yeah, there's a lot, and people are becoming more educated, I think, and I think that was the biggest issue is that when you think of marijuana, or you think of like, ooh, that's been illegal for so long, no one should touch that because it's naughty. Naughty, so naughty.
Yeah, it was naughty.
It's trying to retrain the brain of like, it's not naughty. And that hemp and also marijuana, the THC and the CBD, they're totally different things. And THC gets you high and the CBD doesn't. So it's just, people are slowly getting educated and that's also part of our brand and what I wanted to make sure was the most important was being an educational brand and teaching people 'cause they just don't know.
And just having—
Totally.
Hey, you've educated me beyond with the last few podcasts. If you guys didn't see them, just go back. Her name's on all of them. And we'll do a series. We'll have to do a series of all our interviews because they are so thought-provoking. And I feel like since we're talking about New Year's resolutions, we're gonna be talking about, I wanna share my 3 best tips to do that, and I want yours. 'Cause I feel like it's simple. 3, 1, 2, 3, and then it's too many. I think keep it simple. 3 tips on how to do that.
Don't try to overwhelm yourself because it's like, it's one of those things. I actually do this in life, and some people argue, with it, but it works for me. I've made the mistake when I was younger that I would set expectations so high for certain things, small, medium, large, whatever they were, traveling, this, some expectation of friends, and you realize that you're always disappointed. And so I've done forever, I have low expectations for things. I'm like, you know what?
I think it's practical, realistic.
Right, it's just realistic. You, you're so much happier when you're like, wow, that was so much more than I thought it was gonna be. Or, you know, your expectation is like, you know what, I'm gonna set it low, I'm gonna just work on this, this. You can even do one thing for your New Year's resolution and you're like, hopefully I can get there, maybe I won't. And then it's like you crush it and then you're, you know, you're, you can add another one on there. Yeah, it's, you know, it's just always never think— because I'm an all-or-nothing person. I mean, like, for— I, I've tried to be better about it because I'm like, if I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna go full-blown. Yeah, although sometimes it's not, you know, sometimes I'm like, oh, I should have maybe been like a little bit more patient. Like for instance, my earrings, my cartilage earrings. This is a weird example.
Yeah, cuz you have beautiful earrings. But you're— Kelly, I've noticed, has many earrings too. Yeah, Kelly Ripa.
Yeah, I was—
do you have— how many do you have in there? She's showing me her left lobe, my left cartilage.
So the, the upper part of your ears. And I was like, oh, I've always wanted that.
A chic picture here. It should be beautiful. —people are going to want to see. There, I got it. Okay, so there it is.
Yeah, yeah, my horrible face. But yeah, um, anyway, so I did— instead of doing one at a time, which is what you should do, I did all three at once.
Oh, holy moly. Which is so— anyone getting ear piercings out there, side tip here, yes, for the new year.
It took a whole year for them to heal, and then they were all swollen, and then I had to get— I mean, I was like This is an example, Shayna, of like, you know, I think, okay, you're going full in, so just, you know, get them all 3 done, you know. And then I also— the guy talked me out of it. I was gonna do a 4th one on the other ear, and he was like, you can only do one side because you can't sleep on it, so you can't, you know.
Oh my gosh, you'll be in pain. I didn't realize. You're right, your ears hurt.
I did not do my research at all. Anyway, I was miserable for like 9 months. Oh, finally it's like— I know. Now you have— yeah, to my point, it's like sometimes you just need to pause and stop and like be like, okay, I'm gonna start small and then work my way up there instead of being like so ambitious and thinking you need 17 New Year's resolutions that you want to change, you know.
So let's get to it then. I mean, I feel like let's set the tone. It is Monday, which I like because I think of every Monday kind of like New Year's Day, like it's a new week, new week, start fresh, start fresh. I think there's something magical about Mondays and being the 30th of December, I feel like We got tomorrow. Tomorrow's New Year's Eve. I mean, I hate to ask, but what are you doing? Mr. Seacrest, remind them. You might as well give them all— you guys all need to watch tomorrow.
It's 12 o'clock, ball drop, New York City. It is my, I think, like 6th year of going. Yes, in the snow. Which I sound like a spoiled rotten brat because I'm like, oh, I just want to go somewhere warm.
But it is damn cold. I hate to be honest.
How cold is it? The last 2 years were horrible.
You like literally, your eyebrows freeze, everything freezes.
Lips crept. It was last year, it was pouring rain the whole time, which was like, poor Ryan was soaking wet.
And but I, I didn't keep him dry. Umbrella?
They didn't? Well, they were trying to like run around with umbrellas, but he's so like, he's so in the moment, he didn't even care. He was running around soaking wet like, ah, you know. Was he with Fergie?
Who was it last year? Someone he had?
No, Fergie is in another location when they do the television. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, This woman who's not doing it anymore, he's been doing it, she's been doing it with him for like 15 years or so.
You should have Kelly join, or no? Who's going to help him?
There's another woman joining this year. I don't know who it is.
When are you going to be there? Not yet, no? It's not too early. No.
And you know, and— I'm not famous enough to do that.
Please, but you will be there for the fall drop.
Yes, I always go every year. Actually, my mom and my stepfather and my mom's best friend and her husband are coming this year. Oh, they're all coming?
Shout out to mom, to the fam. Yeah.
Yeah, so this— What's her name? Give them a shout out. My mom's Brenda.
What's up, Brenda? How are you?
She's the best. Yeah. Um, and then my— her best friend's Laura, and then my stepdad's name's Rob. Hey, Rob. And then I actually can't remember.
So they're all going to keep you warm. Keep this woman warm. I know it's gonna catch cold out there.
Excited. Yeah. But, um, yeah, so the year before last year, it was when it was the below— it was like negative degrees. Whoa.
Now what do you do when it's that cold? Seriously, there's honestly like—
we—
so is that safe to be out long?
No, for humans, those people that were standing out there, I'm like— because I was out there and I, I layered up. I was like, I had 17 layers before I long boots, everything. But I literally standing out there for more than 15 minutes, I— my feet started going numb, and I was like, I don't know how these people are standing out here all day. It's impressive. So I'm putting out to the weather gods, please be a good year. Sometimes we get lucky and it's, it's like barely drizzling snow and it's, you know, cold, but it's not, you know, under 20. I'm hoping it's because we had such catastrophic years that maybe we'll get lucky. And you had—
you were telling me during— before we started that you just came off of a nice little holiday break. You were in a warmer climate in Italy. Yeah, I mean, it's not—
it is warmer. It's like kind of like—
yeah, it's more LA. Yeah, LA. It always is like— and it was fun. So you—
we took a little vacation, uh, to Italy. Yeah. So which we, we love. It's our favorite too. Yeah, Italian food's the best. The people are the most friendly. We We always go to—
so one of my tips is we got to eat Italian food this year. And I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm with my 3 tips, share with people how to enjoy carbs, because the Italians, between you and me, they know how to do carbs, right? From the wine to the pasta to the bread.
The wheat is so much better for you in Europe than it is in the US. I mean, by the way, I just was taught, because I have— I found out I have leaky gut, so I've been trying to do all this.
You're with Dr. Joffrey, right? Repair. My buddy, your buddy, Ryan's buddy, Kelly's guy. He's been a host on the podcast many times, Dr. Joffrey, we love you. Shout out to him. We have to give him a little love.
I just came from his office for an adjustment.
Yes.
Oh good, he's the best. Yeah, anytime I can get in there, I'm like, I'm coming in.
Oh no, he's a magician, and he will be on the show, I'm sure, uh, this year with me. But he's been such a good friend, and when I moved here, you know, I kind of was resetting my life with my divorce and all that, and he and his wife, just the salt of the earth. They're just so genuinely passionate.
And I know he's— he loves what he does, and he's very passionate about helping people, and it's you don't meet a lot of people like that. It's really great.
No, and I feel like his wife is so sweet. I'm kind of dating someone here in New York now, and I haven't really talked about it publicly, so I'm not, I'm not going to talk about it like that, but he— his wife loves to help with shelter or with animals from shelters and help them find homes and adoptions. And the guy I'm kind of dating right now, he is beyond in that same realm and loves— like the dog Cherie here, she's a, she's a rescue, you know, and it's He's just such a, Cherie's beautiful, our little redhead, and great girl, and just so sweet, and people's hearts are in the right place. He's one of those, we always say we're the Avengers of health, and you're like Wonder Woman now, okay? So he's like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, we got all our characters, but it takes a village. So let's get to our best 3 tips. I can go first, you can go first, but let's give them 3 simple insights. It can be really specific, it can be a 4-step. You want me to go first? You know, for me, I think, you know, I'm really blessed. I was showing Shaina the COVID of the January issue, which is out everywhere nationwide. And today being the 30th, next Monday, a week from today, we're starting a 19-day weight loss challenge with 7 million people, the readers of Prevention magazine. And I don't want to overwhelm people with that either, but if you haven't picked up the issue, you saw it, it's very colorful, lots of pictures.
It's very colorful and very simple and understanding. You can understand it. Understand it really well, which I think is, is important because wellness, the wellness world and people that are just getting into health can, can be overwhelmed by how many things they think they need to change about their lifestyle. And this is, this is a very simple way of putting it that doesn't seem overwhelming.
Yeah. And I think in the article, it's called The 19-Day Weight Loss Plan. It's in Prevention magazine, which is out nationwide. It's the little digest-size magazine. It's everywhere. Books are sold— Target, Walmart. It's digital. We're looking at it on an iPad. It's on, on iNews. And, you know, the COVID is this beautiful cover with a calendar. And I interviewed— the last few times we had the prevention editor on here, Sarah. And, and it's really about understanding, you know, that in 19 days you can do so much. And with, with Cruise Control, you can really get to the place where you'll drop almost a pound a day of the belly fat. And we know how unhealthy that is. So my first tip would be, you know, get yourself some prescription that you can follow for at least 19 days, whether it's my book, whether it's following the plan on my Facebook plan where I do my yoga. I would say, you know what, if you want to shortcut this, if you really want, remember the Cliff Notes? Did you ever use Cliff Notes in school? I lived off Cliff Notes.
Me too, because I wasn't a reader.
No, I know, I'd rather read.
I'm still not a reader. I have to like love it so much. Like anything about health, I can read for hours. But like anytime someone recommends a book, to me it's like, yeah, I'm like, I can't, I like skip, I can't, I don't know why, my capacity is just like—
And I really don't want my publisher to hit me because on January 7th, so not a week from today but the next day after, so a week from tomorrow, the book comes out in paperback. So definitely get the book, but I would say—
Yeah, but see, a book like your book I love to read because it has so many things that apply to my life, you know? I like informational book that make me learn things, not like a novel that just has a story.
Yeah, no, I'm not a big fiction guy. I really— I'm all about self-help and all that. But I would say my tip number one for the new year is get yourself some plan, stick to it. And, and I would think what Shayna said is, is relax. Don't make the plan that complicated.
The plan doesn't control you, you control the plan.
Ooh, say that again.
The plan doesn't control you, you control the plan. I think with dieting and, and people thinking that, you know, I don't even really like the word dieting necessarily either, because it's just like, it's not dieting, it's a lifestyle.
Hi, this is Jorge Cruise Cruise, and I wanted to interrupt the show just for a minute because I want to make sure that you're on my VIP mailing list for future podcasts and for insights and shortcuts on how to improve your health, from everything on intermittent fasting to yoga to 8-minute workouts to how to just work better and how to have less stress and also how to manage pain. And it's, you know, it's, it's nothing is supposed to control you. You're not supposed to be annoyed that you're like, oh, I have to be like, it's, it's literally like you're just, it's coming into your life and you're accepting it and you're not letting it control you. And you're like, you know what, I actually really like this fit. You know, it's like It's the affirmations of telling yourself every day that it's like, I'm actually really enjoying this and I'm ready to do it. My body's happy I'm doing it. It's having an attitude because I think so many people have this weird, like, oh, I have to do a diet because I just need to do a diet. It's like, no, no one needs to.
Yeah, and it becomes very militant and almost like you're seeing, like you see it as like this task that you really, it's like doing your taxes. It's like, oh God. Right, it becomes dreadful. How exciting. You're like, oh.
And it's not supposed to be fun.
You put it off until the night before and you're like. And now it's literally the night of the eve of the eve of New Year's Eve. So tip number 1, get a plan, but a simple plan. I'd just get Prevention. I mean, it's 10 pages. It's simple. Yeah, it's super simple. I'll give you guys the link.
I think it's a very good start. Like, this is— Yes, it's a good summary. This is such a good start of how to start living a healthy lifestyle that's not overwhelming. Yeah, I think it's very—
It's simple. So do that, guys, whether it's the book or the, that. I would do that. That's step 1. Step 2, I think, is you have to make a commitment, you know? Because once you have a plan, you have to say, "I commit to it." Not that I'm gonna try this, but I learned this years ago from my first mentor, Tony Robbins, that there's a difference between saying, "I'll try," versus, "I will do something." And a commitment is so powerful, and really, I was talking to the guy I'm dating right now, and we were talking about commitments, 'cause, you know, relationships are about commitments, and I've learned a lot from my prior relationship, and it's complicated. And making a decision, you know, I learned this years ago from Tony Robbins, and its Latin prefix means to cut off, to decide. Decision means to cut off. And it's really, you know, my second tip is to, to make a decision to make yourself first this year. You have to be selfish. I hate to say it, and Oprah has taught me over the years.
It's like the oxygen mask. Every single time you go on a plane, they say when the oxygen mask drops, put it on yourself first before helping others. And that is like— it's such a serendipity saying of like, if you do not take care of yourself and put yourself first, you will not be able to help others like you want to help them. And I think that's the problem. So logical, right? Yeah, of course. But you know, I even struggle with—
but there's shame again. Shame. It's It's the year of getting rid of shame because we feel— I mean, how do most of your friends— or if I tell— if I'm working with the Real Housewives of New York and Dorinda, or whether it's Sonja or Luann, they all have responsibilities. They have business partners and they feel bad to make time for them to do yoga. I know. To go— because they're like, I got to do this. I got to have these commitments. And they forget to schedule the commitments with who? Right? Themselves. Yeah, and we feel like, oh, I'm at the bottom of the list. So this challenge, the second tip, is to put yourself first, at the top of the list. Yeah, that's my number one. Would you agree too? I mean, that is me. I mean, that's my—
for 2020, literally, I was just texting with my girlfriend this morning. Yeah, my girlfriend Farren, who I love very much. She lives in Toronto. We don't get to see each other that much. Yeah, shout out her, love her. But I was saying how, you know, 2020 for me is— I travel so much, and it's mostly because I'm trying to balance my work and my relationship. And I've been actually very sick a lot more than usual because I'm on a plane every 4 or 5 days. And it's just not good for anyone to be on a plane like that. And you know, it's—
It's sad, but it's true, right? It's true. For all the travelers out there.
Especially like men can even do it a little, can tolerate it a little better than women.
And it's cool for Ryan. He can support you. Of course. He's your other half.
Of course, which is why I—
But he's truly bicoastal. Like, why?
It's not even just bicoastal. So it's like anytime we have a time off, we're going somewhere else. You know, it's like, it's—
Have you ever gotten him to just stay home and watch Netflix with you for a week? Never. It's so rare.
And I'm just like, all I want to do is sit at home and do nothing. Yes. So anyway, my 2020 resolution was to make sure I make what is right for me a priority more than I'm making it always like for him. And naturally in a relationship—
Isn't that shameful too? Yes, you feel bad.
More shame. You're like, oh, I'm a bad girlfriend, but I'm not. I'm trying to do what's better for me because then our relationship is so much happier. Because otherwise I'm just, I'm feeling, I'm getting aggravated, right? I'm just like, I'm just like getting resentful of him, but for no reason because it's all on me. You know what I mean? It's like I can't be resentful for him because I'm the one that's not saying like, hey, I'm just gonna go and decompress and stay in LA for a weekend, you know, whatever it is. It's like, I just—
Is that kimosu? He misses you and he wants to be with you all the time.
So I feel guilty. Guilty is shame again. Exactly.
It's always back to shame.
So I've literally told myself like, I will have to make myself more of a priority because I do struggle with it and I preach it to so many people. And it's hard to say no. And it's hard to say no.
It's cancer.
Well, when you love somebody so much, you just want to make them happy. Totally. And he wants me to be with him all the time, which I love. I would hate for it to be any other way. Of course. But you know, you just have to remember like, You're important too. And so it's, you know, count to them.
When we say you, we mean us ourselves, everyone. So that's my second tip, is to make yourself a priority. Be selfish. Same with people with work.
Like, most people that are so like, you know, I'm very work-driven too, but they always put work in front of themselves. Yeah, it's the same.
And then that's the other marriage, the work marriage.
It's very similar. It's not much different. And it's back to shame. You feel like, oh, there's so much more I could be doing, but then it makes me think of The 4-Hour Workweek and how much more productive you are.
Yes, shout out to Tim Ferriss.
Just have those certain hours of the day, which could be 30 minutes, we could be 1 hour, where you get so much more done. I mean, think about how much you like lollygally, and you know, it's, it's, it's true. There's always more time.
It's a big deal. And, and I'm going to share with you guys a video for the second thing here that, uh, that is a YouTube video with Oprah, uh, where there's this beautiful young lady, and I think it's Stanford. It's not a commencement, but she's done a million commencement addresses, you know, these cool YouTube videos. And they— oh, Stanford, it was Stanford University. She did a symposium with a girl, a young girl, nice gal, talking about her best tips. And at the very end, there's someone in the audience that says, Oprah, can you share with us the delicate balance between being selfish and selfless? And she's like, why do you want to know that? That's like the deep question. And the girl said, well, because it's a difficult balance in life. Everyone struggles And we all— it's a struggle. And so Oprah shared her ideas on that, and I'll— oh, I watched that YouTube video, I mean, I hate to say it, once a week. It's that good. And because I, as a coach and as a trainer and as a yogi and as someone who teaches fasting and works with a lot of celebrity clients, that my clients come first usually. My— and I have kids, and now I'm in a new relationship, and it's like you, we— yeah, you get overwhelmed, balance. And if you don't take care of yourself, guys, no matter who's in your life, and these are people that you love, like Shana said, you won't be there for them. And it's, and it's this counterintuitive thinking that if you can come first, like they do on the airplane— great metaphor, by the way— yeah, you're gonna be there for everyone. And so use that metaphor and let's discuss that, because I think it's important on social this week and talk about it here on podcast, because I feel like that's the biggest challenge. You can get a simple plan. Hey, I got it. I got one on prevention. Get book, but whatever, you can just Google intermittent fasting, 16:8, 16 hours of fasting, 8 hours of eating. It's not— this isn't like, like shocking, it's, it's simple, you know. How to overcome hunger is not that hard with the good fats and the chia seeds. We've talked all that out, you guys know what to do. But making you come first, that's hard. That one is hard. Yeah, so that's my second tip. Third one and final tip, guys, I really do feel like this is the year for me of yoga. And I want to tell everyone what yoga is. I want you guys to commit to embracing this word. It is not about stretching, and it's not a religion. For me, I'm going— I just wrapped up last 2 weeks ago in New York, or whatever, the 15th, we had a yoga graduation. And now officially you're sitting with a yogi, certified, certified, 200 hours. It's been— it was the best healing experience from the pain I went through last year. It got me to see the light. It calmed down. This is what yoga does.
It helps you calm down the mind and the nervous system, which is a huge deal on every part of your body— your digestion, how you feel, like the balance, like your nervous system, which controls everything. It's like if you can learn how to control that and balance your nervous system, it's a whole other way of having a functionality in your body. It is.
And I feel like for me, you know, yoga— I thought it was just stretching. I did it many years ago when I went through my first divorce with the mother of my kids, and I love this woman. We're very well in grace, Heather and I and our two sons Parker and Owen. Shout out to my boys. But I did hot Bikram yoga back then because it was so intense. It got me to take a deep breath, and it was like CBD. I finally—
and you like, yeah, heat makes your muscles stretch.
You've been hot with— I've done all kinds of yoga. So, and I needed a big kick in the you-know-what, and it worked. But now, you know, I'm doing 8 minutes of yoga. We don't get hot, we do it on a mat. I do it live at 8 AM. I try that type of meditation. Yeah, it's, it's, it's literally a moving meditation. Calms down the body, you get the kinks out, you breathe, you're done in 8 minutes, and you feel like shit, like I feel good. Yeah, no, you feel really good. So I want to invite you guys, it's the third tip for the New Year's, to start it out. I'll be doing it today you know, this 30th of December. And I'll do it every morning live, if I'm— depending on what coast I do it. Keep it at the same time. It's 5:00 a.m. if it's California, bright and early. You're up sort of that early. I get up really early. Yeah, but earlier than 5:00, do you?
Sometimes? No, I mean, well, depends on what— sometimes my body doesn't even know what time zone it's on. So I'm in the same boat.
Sometimes I'm back and forth, you know. I've got my family and I've got my, my life there, but now I'm You know, I'm centered a little more in New York with work and with relationship, and I feel like for me it's about keeping it consistent. So I do it at 5 AM California time or 8 AM Eastern time, and you can just go to Jorge Cruise, or just go to, what is it, facebook.com/jorgecruise. I'll put the link. Join me for yoga. It's 8 minutes. I do it Monday through Friday unless it's a holiday. I mean, would you do— what do you think? I mean, tomorrow, as much as it's New Year's Eve, I want to do my yoga with everyone. Oh yeah. Won't you do yoga on that day? Tomorrow you'll be freezing out before you get into the snow.
I'm going to drag my mom and her best friend to yoga.
We're going to yoga.
You know, that's actually, um, so it's funny, we have very, very similar New Year's resolutions in a lot of ways. Like, my— the two that I have thought of so far is— well, so your turn now.
So you ready? You got three. You ready?
So my first one, which I talked about already, was, was self-care and making it more of a priority.
Self-care. Okay. Yeah.
So tell us, give us a little sentence or two on that, and we're So like I was saying, it's the, you know, the oxygen mask. Yeah, you have to make sure that you are the number one priority in a lot of ways of what you know is good for you, but to know to better everyone else around you in your life and make sure that you're like at, you know, because I, like I said, I be— I get resentful of my relationship, I get resentful of whatever, and it's no one's fault because it's all on, you know, it's all on me. So anyway, that's my number one.
Care. Self-care. And if there was a prescriptive line of self-care, what's your number one prescriptive line for step one of your resolution tips? This is tip number one from, from Shana: self-care. What— there's a lot out there. It's kind of— it's like a forest because that's a tree. Like, I did a whole—
I did a whole podcast, which I haven't released my podcast yet, but I did a whole talk about self-care and how there's no actual level of what self-care means. I think people are confused by the word self-care, and I think what's most important to understand is that self-care can be as small and little as you just take a bath when you're tired, to lighting your candle or your incense at night and taking 5 minutes before you go. Like, self-care could be something so small, and self-care could be like, I am booking a trip by myself or with a best friend or with my significant other for a weekend because I just need to get away and I'm shutting my phone off. You know what I mean? Like, there's, there's so many levels of self-care. Or the self-care could be, you know, not letting you be influenced by friends or a relationship when you're trying to do a healthier lifestyle. Yeah. If someone is feeling, you know, pressured for you to drink and you don't want to, like, taking that, like, okay, I'm, I'm making a choice. I know what I want to do for myself. I'm going to say no, and I'm going to have a sparkling water with lime. Yeah. And I don't like that. That's going to be that. And I think that so many people feel under pressure. And like you said, shame. Like, oh, people are going to judge me because I'm not drinking, or people are— whatever it is. And it's like, so self-care is such a, a strong kind of trendy word, but I think understanding that self-care has so many letters— it's very simple. I think it's, it's not complicated. People are like, I don't have time for self-care. I'm like, you don't have time for a bath? You don't have time for, you know, like an 8-minute yoga in the morning?
You don't have to— like, that's part of something, you know?
That's a part of self-care.
Yeah, doing it in the morning though, first First, you come first.
Your mind and your body— like, I wake up early because I like to spend time by myself. I make my matcha latte. Me too, I do that. You know, I like, like to sit and decompress for a moment. I don't look at emails, I don't look at my phone, I don't do anything. I like wait till the sun comes up, then I see the sun too.
We have to pair up on a sunrise one of these days. All right, we'll have a sunrise morning.
Sometimes either I sit and meditate for 5 minutes because that's about as far as I can get with my attention span. I'm trying to— that's another New Year's resolution, but, um, like, I always get so distracted. Um, and yeah, I just— it's, it's so— like, self-care is not hard. Yeah, you know, anyone can take the time, whether it be little, let it be big, and just do more for yourself. And what you gen— like, intuitively we know what we need and what our body needs, but we don't listen sometimes.
Well, then I'm going to say do some yoga because that'll calm down the brain and the body. That's my thing. All right, so, so the number one, self-care. And just, I think, just to end on that, and we'll get to the second one here, it's self. Yes, that word resonates. Self-care. Two words, not one word. Self, meaning you, like not your kids, not your spouse, not your boyfriend, girlfriend, not your job, not you, little shit you. And care. Right. Care for you.
Yes, caring for yourself. That's powerful.
So thank you. All right, so what's the second one?
Second one is doing more yoga. Oh yes! That's why I'm like laughing. We're gonna be doing yoga in 2020. I have been like—
I feel like you've got to join me on a stream or two.
I will, I will. We'll do that.
We will totally do that. I have been— And we'll go longer. Maybe we'll do a 20-minute workout. Yeah, sure.
Yeah, I'm happy to do any yoga. Yeah, yeah. So I've been an athlete workout fanatic. Yes. For as long as I can remember. I was an athlete as a kid. I played volleyball in high school.
Yeah.
I've always been an athlete. And you're in phenomenal shape. Thank you. And all my 20s I've been like, same. It's like I work out in the gym, I do this. It's like I've always felt like if I'm not doing a hardcore workout, then I'm not working out.
Yeah, like go big or go home.
Right, and then last year, I really, like I did it all. Cycling, boxing, Pilates, weight training, Balance and Burn, like you name the workout. Dance classes, like barre.
And I don't know how you have time for this, 'cause you're running a small—
I would always fit it in no matter what. More mornings or nights?
Or just one? Mornings, always mornings. See, see, mornings, guys.
Lean into that morning. I can't do nighttime.
It's hard to control the nighttime. In the morning, you just have to get up a little early and make this you time. So yoga in the morning. All right, so we definitely have to do 8 minutes in the morning.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, um, is there a type of yoga that you would recommend to anyone out there from your perspective? Because I can give a lot of tips, but I want your insights.
What changed my perspective about yoga, I think, as much as I love I love America. America's great. Yeah, yeah. But God bless America, right? But things that become trendy, people end up changing, and then we make our own thing, and then they make money out of it, and then everything becomes a money-making machine instead of it being like genuinely what it's supposed to be about, which is, um, great in a lot of ways because it's why our economy is so strong. But it also gets frustrating when you're in the wellness industry because then you just feel defeated by people that are just trying to make a buck. Like, I was reading an article in the New York Times about natural wine and how natural wine was authentic because it was people doing it out of passion and doing what wine is supposed to be like. And now all these huge companies are coming in and like buying all this land and saying they're coming out with natural wine and they're not doing anything natural about it. And it's—
anyway, it's like, again, it just pisses me off. Yeah.
Um, anyway, I went to— my, my birthday gift last year was to go to Ananda in India, which is a yoga spiritual retreat. Oprah's been there.
It got famous. What's it called again?
Ananda, which means bliss.
And Indian. Ananda. And Oprah's been— Oprah's been—
it got huge. Love you, Oprah.
Hopefully you're listening. Oprah, have us on the show. We're ready. Yeah, exactly. We'll do yoga together with Oprah. That would be amazing. Oprah, we're coming to get you. So what happened in India? Did you have an epiphany or an awakening?
It just made me realize that as Americans, we make yoga into something that's intense and like, yeah, a workout.
And like Bikram did that for a while, right? And you know that documentary on Netflix, have you seen it? No.
Oh my gosh, what is it about? Bikram yoga?
Well, it's about Mr. Bikram himself.
Uh, wow, I know I haven't seen it.
Oh my gosh, scandal. Oh, I'll have to watch it. Was too friendly with the ladies, if you know what I mean. There's like a Me Too thing, and a lot of women have now shared their story of being, um, assaulted by him, literally. And a lot of people, like in New York, my yogi teacher, KK's her name, here at Pure Yoga in Manhattan A lot of the studios were Bikram studios, have dropped the name. It's like not a good name. So yoga— and he made yoga famous, and the reason I bring it up, and that's what I took 15 years ago, because it was such an intense yoga, hot yoga, 90 minutes. They used to call it the Bikram torture chamber, you know, and you were to sweat, and they were militant. And I'm saying they had whips, but they would yell. Have you ever been yelled at by a yogi? They do. I'm like, sit up straight. Yeah, like, oh my gosh, it's such militant. So it's not that, that's the old days. So what do you suggest for the new day?
Long story short, in Ananda, like every day you do an hour of yoga and an hour of meditation.
Yeah, with Oprah.
So they teach you that like yoga, it's not about working out. Yoga is about the mind-body connection. Yes, about stretching the body in the times it needs. How we all live day-to-day lives and we sit a lot and we do things that make your body become unbalanced and tight. And it's, it's like, it's not intense movements. It's really about the yoga flow. It's about meditating. It's about breathing.
Philosophy of life, though, and you felt that because you were in the center of the world, of course, where yoga was birthed.
So it, it gave me a whole different perspective of what I considered yoga to be and why you should be doing it for yourself. So, and, you know, when I came back home, I was like, I really wanted to stick to doing more yoga. Like, I did it for 7 days straight. I want to keep doing it every day. Which of course is— I haven't done. I'd last— actually, last week, I'm very proud of myself, I did 2, 2 yogas. Yeah, but you know, it's, it's— I want to continue doing it. I actually really want to do my certification.
You do? I'm gonna connect you with my KK.
I'm just not— I'm not in it. I'm never gonna sit here long enough. Yeah, I have to do it with like a friend that can certify me that I could like manage.
Anyway, off topic. Well, but yeah, KK, I'm coming. Shout out to you.
New Year's resolution is that I really want want to do more of that type of yoga, the, the reason yoga was created, which was balance in the body. Yes, you, you are stretching your body, but at the end of the day, yoga, when you do it on a regular basis, it's not really stretching anymore. It's, it's a routine to make sure that your body stays in flow and stays in balance, and your breathing techniques is good for your mind. It's a full kind of lifestyle.
Like I said, and then yoga world, there's these chakras, these energy points that get impacted by movement. And, and yoga, it's— I, I wonder sometimes, I get freaked out because we studied the history of it as part of our 200-hour training. And I mean, a lot of the caricatures and storylines with these blue yogis, they're literally blue. And I love Ridley Scott and all his Alien movies, and I love like Prometheus. And I, you know, I grew up Catholic, so it was very religious, very Catholic. And now I do believe in a higher power of some sort.
Aliens for sure. You do? Oh, 100%.
No, we're not going there, are we? But I do believe there are intelligent beings. Yes, maybe they're alien. They're not from the Earth. Intelligent design, they call it.
And then it has this weird conception because it's shameful.
It's like, or it's not shameful, it feels like we're crazy. Straight up, I think you're—
it's a better way of putting it. I think greater beings, beings that don't live on Earth. I think it's— I think it's— I, I feel bad if people that are listening don't believe, like strong belief on not believing it, But I think that it's very naive to think that planet Earth, considering the universe is never-ending and there's a lot of other suns with Earth planets around, yes, that we are the only living beings in the entire universe. I'm sorry, but that is like, how can you think?
Yeah, and the yogis created a lot of the astrology that's out there. They knew things that I freak out because how did they know this back then? No, we need to do that. Will you take me? I'm here. I have a guy.
Yes, he's powerful. It'll blow your mind.
So obviously we like yoga. We haven't talked about siete chips as much, but we're as passionate as chips in yoga. We are. And, and so that's your second tip. I think it's powerful. I mean, join me for 8 minutes. Shana will join— be joining me. Maybe we'll record one. And, and more importantly, remember, it's not a religion, it's not stretching, it's a philosophy, and it's about bringing balance to your life. It's, you know, I think it's— for me, it's calmed my mind. And I've been—
your body craves it. You need that. You need to have balance.
And I'm like you, very go-get-em and all that, but you need times to turn that off. And the body— and the body reacts to the mind, and then the body feels better, and then you end up feeling happy, even if you, you know, didn't work 30 hours in a, you know, in a day. Because I have clients that, you know, they try to— like celebrities, they, you know, they're up at 4 in the morning, they don't go to bed till midnight. It's like you sleep 3 3 hours. I mean, look at like President Trump. I don't know how he does it. I'm like, he's so old and he sleeps like 3 or 4 hours. How do people do that? You go— well, because you go a little cray-cray.
Your body's on fight or flight.
That's why. I mean, that—
yeah, like a lot of people don't realize that their body is on constant fight or flight, and that's basically living off an adrenaline. And it's like, that's why they don't really get sick, because you're just— your body can't get sick because you're on an adrenaline rush. But like your body is breaking down when you're continuously on fight or flight. And that's why, for instance, yoga is so important because it brings your body back to be centered and give your body and mind a moment to relax instead of being on this constant freaking crazy drug.
And it tones and firms your body. I mean, I look at your biceps, your triceps, your butt, you look great. I don't do a lot. I mean, I still go to the gym.
I've been eating like it's the holidays, so I feel gross right now.
Well, I hope the yoga will help. And you'll be doing some tonight, right? Yes. So with family, so yoga. And what's your final tip? And then we're gonna wrap up. We've been going long on this one, but it's an important day. This is a special day. It's our last talk of the year, and what a great way to end 2019 with you, Shayna. But what would be your third and best final tip?
My third and best final tip, yeah, is that I want to try for myself is— so even though I'm a very healthy person, yeah, yeah, I'm a huge foodie. I'm a chef.
Of course, food. So foodie foodie.
But what's the— So what's your— my thing is that I have a hard time saying no sometimes. It's in front of me, I don't really have control of like not wanting to eat it.
Yeah, so I can do that too at night.
Yeah, I have, I have, I just get so excited.
I'm just like such a— that's why I fast, so I give myself a little less shame about overeating at night.
But it's not, it's not about necessarily about how much I am eating, it's more of staying away from things I know I shouldn't be eating.
Chocolate chip cookies or what? Well, I don't—
no, it's mostly— honestly, my biggest, my biggest problem is gluten. I, I cheat some— not always. You mean like bread or what? Well, yeah, bread or like, like whole wheat bread or—
yeah, or there gluten in something.
No, I don't eat donuts. Give me something naughty. I'm trying to think of like what— because that's the thing is that it's not necessarily naughty, it's something that like is kind of on the health, you know. Well, I mean, honestly, my biggest struggle is— I know it's, it's better, it's not as bad in Europe, but like it's almost impossible for me not to eat pasta. Yeah, and it's different there. It's so different. It is. But because I'm struggling with leaky gut and I need to get it, you know, cure— like, not cure, you can't cure it, but you have to reduce the leaky gut.
I had the same thing. He did the live blood cells. Yes. Is that what Daryl did? Fascinating. Daryl, you're amazing.
Fascinating.
Yeah, it's scary because you see this Candida that comes from eating bread, and then you get like a sluggish lymphatic system too.
Oh God, I know. So I'm like really not—
I shouldn't be drinking anyway. So what is that third tip? So it's about food.
Give us this, give us the prescription. What is it? My third thing for myself is like, I want to just have the power of looking at something, and even though it looks good and I know it's not good for my stomach, and the moment, just look at it and be like, you know what, it. That's not— it's not worth it. Yeah, don't let it control you is basically what I'm saying. Just like I said before of like the diet, how don't let the diet control you, like you control it. Totally. It's, it's the same thing. Like I sometimes let food in my mind like control me, like you need it, and it's like I just don't— I— it doesn't control me. I, I control it. So it's like, yeah, I just— I'm gonna be like, no, that's gonna hurt me. Like maybe after a year of being continuous and gluten-free, I can— and my stomach is healed, I could probably have it every once in a while and it won't affect me. But because I'm— my stomach is so far in one direction, I have to set a boundary and stick to the boundary.
Well, that's, that's a great third tip. I mean, really, because boundaries, especially with nutrition and being able to, to have— and I think the discipline to do that. I would just add, like, to give you more motivation or strength to do it, for me, because it's hard, believe me. I fast. I have given myself like 2 to 3 hours to eat at night from usually from 6 to 9 is my eating window. And if I take a little CBD, I'm relaxed, or have a glass of wine, or on rare occasions if I do a medical spray of marijuana, then I get a little the munchies. You've had munchies before. And then I get so guilty. And, you know, no, you should never— my boyfriend Sean, he really just feels like, you know, like, Jorge, you're overdoing it and you're overeating. And I'm like, oh, come on, I earned this. And I don't feel bad about it, I don't. But there's a little bit of that guilt of overeating. Eating. But I would say boundaries are important. And I know for me, like, and if I'm joining you in this resolution or in this tip, it would be to, you know, like, have a time. Like, my therapist— I still talk to a therapist for 10 years now— he said, 'They're great.' And he's told me, you know, he's like, 'Cannabis will turn off your frontal lobe, and so does alcohol, so do, you know, these certain substances that take away our frontal lobe.' And the frontal lobe of our brain, guys, is this part that helps be human and be rational and all that. And then we go to the limbic— he always gives me these really educational insights— and the ancient part of the brain is where we're emotional. We have all these, like, that's where that, I want to go eat that cookie, you know, oh, cookie, come to me, you know, I want to eat you, I'm like so hungry. And the front part of the brain is— and it also gets weak not from just using medical marijuana or alcohol, but just from not sleeping. And so you lose the ability to make discipline decisions if the frontal lobe is offline, you know. And you need that frontal lobe to be— people binge eat when they drink. Yes. And when I don't do these things, I'm fine. So my commitment is Monday through Thursday to not do that stuff. Like, I have my boundaries on the weekends. And then Friday night, we'll do a little something Saturday, but then I don't do anything Sunday night. Yeah, I gotta be sharp on Monday. We got yoga in the morning, you know, and I don't want to be the drunk yogi. I've been to yoga classes. That might hurt you. Yes, have you? I've been to yoga classes where the, you know, that, you know, it was a Friday night or Saturday morning and it's early, something, and you're like, this yogi is tired.
I don't want to be that yogi. Doing yoga like hungover or tired is so hard. Like, I've done it before and you're just like, all you want to do is be in child's pose. Yes, you're like, I love it. I'm like trying so hard. It's actually the best thing to do. Yes, yes, child's pose is the best. Yes, that is the best. It's infrared before you do that.
Infrared is life. You do that too?
I have an infrared in every one of my houses. Me too.
Which one do you use? Do you like—
I do the, uh, Clearlight.
Clearlight. Oh, I need to look into Clearlight because I was using one called Juve for a while. They, they have an ambassador program. Okay, but Clear— Clearlight. You can— okay, well, Clearlight, guys. I've used Juve. These are just— let's end on this because it's— we've talked it up. I mean, yeah. Oh my gosh, we've talked this up. This has been a long podcast. We went way longer than we did. Well, it's the end of the year. I mean, we're excited and this is an important one. Please guys, you have to share this podcast with everyone you know. Get them on board. Tell them Jorge and Shana have given us 6 incredible tips. We overlapped on a few. We did. Yoga, so there's a lot of unity there, but these red lights really help with, I mean, in a nutshell, like with skin, collagen, sleep, the whole thing, right? I mean, they're great, red light, and they're kind of cool and they make you feel good at night. They make you feel great. And you have it, so it's all red in your place?
Too. Yeah, it has multiple— the Clearlight have different lights. It's not just red per like what you want for your mood. So it tells you what the different lights are depending on what you're looking for. And so it has red, blue, orange, yellow. Yeah, I have one here in New York and one in LA.
And I come over, we're gonna do something, some light, some Clearlight therapy. I'm all in because light is important.
Yes. In LA, we should— you should come over to my house. We could actually do a podcast video. Oh yeah, I thought about doing that. We'll do that for sure. While you're vulnerable in a sweaty room and like sweat it out.
Let's do that. We'll do that when we film. Yeah, absolutely, we'll do that. So I think, guys, we are just— we're out of time. Yeah, seriously out of time. We took a long— yes, we're extending our podcast now to an hour almost. But you know, guys, I just want to send from my heart to yours, you're hearing my voice right now, just have a beautiful New Year's Eve of the Eve. Have a great New Year's Eve tomorrow, you know. I'm just gonna plug in really quick. If you're looking for healthy cocktails for New Year's, I did two incredible healthy cocktails, one including matcha, which I think is good for New Year's because you have to stay up. So anyway, if— check out shaynas.kitchen on Instagram or shaynas.kitchen.com, and we have some really good healthy cocktails on there, and they're delicious.
And I don't even tell you the quality of these products are. I mean, you're the only girl I know that farms. You have a farm. You're my farming friend. Shayna has a farm in Vermont where she does her hemp and her candles are gorgeous. If you guys want an incredible candle, I use it with all my yoga in the morning.
And it's my custom scent that I did with them, is called the New York Amethyst. It's so chic.
You're so posh. I love it. I mean, you know, Shayna, she's a, she's a unique woman that really, I think, like I said in the beginning of this, we'll end on this, I mean, we need to heal the world. The world needs some healing. We are breaking and people are overwhelmed overwhelmed and we get pulled into social and this and TV. I read an article, I forget, it was in the Post or New York Times, that as humans we spend 9 years watching TV solid, like 9 years. I don't watch TV. Whoa, you don't watch any?
No. Holy moly. I mean, I have to watch when I'm here in New York. I watch Ryan in the morning.
Good morning, Ryan. Live with Kelly. Always watch. And Kelly Ripa. Come on, we love you guys.
I love Kelly so much. She's my favorite person. Anyway, when I'm in New York, I'll I'll watch it because he knows I'm here. And of course, you know, unless I'm obviously doing something like this, or you can always watch it online. Yeah, but at my house, my TV does not turn on. I don't have a TV in my bedroom.
It's a bonus tip right there, guys. I only have a TV— no TV in the bedroom.
No TV in the bedroom. It messes up your sleep. It does.
It does. And you know, maybe we'll talk about it next week, but she'll be back here on Monday, guys. Join us next Monday for our podcast, the first Monday of the new year.
