#142 - Hunger Control is the Goal (Not Weight Loss).
12 Oct 2021 · 13 min
In this solo episode of the Zero Hunger Guide podcast, Jorge Cruise launches a week‑long "Zero Hunger" series that reframes health goals from weight loss to hunger control. He argues that focusing on the scale creates pressure, whereas mastering appetite leads to natural weight loss. Drawing on anthropology, interviews with figures like Mark Sisson, Robb Wolf, and Paul Saladino, Cruise emphasizes that humans evolved to fast rather than eat three meals a day. He promotes intermittent fasting, especially the One‑Meal‑A‑Day (OMAD) protocol, as a practical way to achieve hunger control. The core tool he introduces is "Zero Hunger Water," a simple electrolyte drink (½ tsp salt in 32 oz water, optionally with potassium, magnesium, lemon, cacao, or sweetener) that he claims suppresses appetite, reduces cortisol, and supports hormonal harmony, particularly for women in perimenopause or post‑menopause. Cruise outlines the dietary framework that accompanies the water: low‑carb, high‑protein, high‑fat, animal‑based meals, avoiding carbs that he says destabilize hormones and drive belly fat. He also mentions sponsors (Elemental Labs and Primal Kitchen) that provide ready‑made electrolyte mixes and avocado‑oil products. Throughout, he urges listeners to try the water, share feedback, subscribe, and leave reviews, positioning the Zero Hunger approach as a lifestyle revolution aimed at transforming millions of lives.

Hey, what's going on everyone? I'm Jorge Cruise and welcome to the Zero Hunger Guide podcast. It's Tuesday. I'm remote, I'm offsite, I'm not in the studio, but I thought today we would kick off a new series. It's October, it's the middle of October, and I can tell you, for me, the number one thing I've done for so many of my clients is give them tools to create shortcuts to get healthier, to feel better, and so many of you have been writing me about this new Zero Hunger plan and what is it. So what we're gonna do this entire week, and I wanted to dial you in right now is really talk about how Zero Hunger is really a paradigm shift. It's about shifting your thinking from weight loss to hunger control. Now hear me on this, it's not about weight loss. Imagine if it's just about controlling your hunger and then you lose weight. Because if you figure you focus in on weight loss, that's a lot of pressure because you're going to be measuring it, you're going to be getting on the scale, you're going to be measuring inches, and all that's important to say once a week, but every day what you should be happy about and what you should be striving for is not weight loss, it's hunger control. Because your body was not designed, I can tell you this from looking in anthropology and all the people I've interviewed on the podcast, from Mark Sisson to Robb Wolf to Dr. James D. Nicolai Antonio, some of the brightest minds. Um, I have a great interview with Paul Saladino, this Friday. And I can tell you, all these conversations are about understanding how capable we are as a species, as a culture, as, as a human race to not overeat, and how we were never designed to have 3 meals a day ever, let alone a meal every 3 hours. And what we were designed to do is fasting. And what fasting means is eating, uh, in a controlled eating window. It doesn't mean not eating, it just means eating maybe once a day. And a lot of my clients, both celebrities and people online, do a one meal a day protocol. It's an acronym, I've talked about it on a show called The Doctors. It's called OMAD, O-M-A-D, one meal a day. Now the number one question, what we're gonna talk about on today's show, is how do you turn off hunger? How do you get to that point where you don't feel hungry, where you automatically just forget to eat. And so we're going to talk about on today's show something I have designed. You've heard about it here and there. We're going to go deep on Zero Hunger Water and how it can be a tool for you. And especially if you're in midlife, and especially if you're a woman who is going through perimenopause or postmenopause, it's going to bring hormonal harmony. Because what we have to do when we drink Zero Hunger Water, which is a tea mineral-based beverage, is we have to lower carbohydrates intentionally. 'Cause when you combine high sodium, which is one of the minerals in Zero Hunger Water, with sugar or carbohydrates, it's the same thing, you're gonna raise blood pressure and we don't wanna do that for anyone at any stage of life. So we're gonna go low on the carbs, we're gonna increase mineral efficiency, and we're gonna eat high protein, high fat. And we're gonna talk about that all this week. On today's show though, we're gonna go deep on Zero Hunger Water. Let's get started right now. Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, but I'm also known as the Zero Hunger Guy. I'm a celebrity fitness trainer and a multiple New York Times bestselling diet author with 12 million fans. You may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloé Kardashian, Kelly Clarkson, or even Steve Harvey. My career started because I was addicted to sugar, carbs, salty snacks, and stress, and experts told me to simply count calories to get control. They were wrong. My passion to get radical control over both physical and emotional health has led me to find science-proven shortcuts that help my clients drop 25 belly inches or even more fast and permanently. And I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Zero Hunger Revolution. All right, happy Tuesday. It's Jorge. I'm remote, guys. I'm on a flight friend's balcony in beautiful San Diego. Check out the view. There's the harbor. Uh, I'm working remote today. Uh, I love it. I have my new Mac laptop and it's been great to do all the podcasts on here, guys. I'm thrilled that we can do this and I can do it now anywhere. It's super simple. Uh, you may hear a jet go by, and if you do, let's pretend it's not happening, but I'm safe. The airport's far, far away. Uh, we're talking Zero Hunger Water today, guys. It's really the tool and the culmination of a 20-year in publishing and me interviewing so many people when I worked for USA Weekend magazine, whether it was for First Woman magazine, Woman's World magazine, uh, Good Housekeeping. You guys know I've been writing for 20 years, books and magazine columns, and I've interviewed everyone. And I can tell you, it all comes down to understanding mineral balance. If you can create a mineral balance in your life through sodium primarily, 90% sodium. Magnesium, potassium are the secondary minerals, but the main one is sodium. Salt, literally salt on your kitchen table. If you can add the half a teaspoon to 32 ounces of water, you're going to turn off hunger. It's the off switch to hunger. No one really talks about this, and no one has. And this came from me working through COVID with a lot of people on my podcasts and understanding the biochemistry of of the body, understanding how hunger is turned off and regulated, and how cortisol, stress hormone, is also turned off by this. So it gives you a sense of calm energy, it helps you turn off your appetite, it helps you do an intermittent fast of 23 hours, guys. And if you're someone in midlife like me, whether you're over 50, over 60, or even 70 plus, this is the best thing to do to regulate hormonal harmony in your body, especially if you're a woman over 40 going through perimenopause or you're in postmenopause. This is the way to do it, guys. Carbs, the very thing that you would think would comfort you, comfort food, is the very thing that causes your hormones to wreak havoc. We're gonna talk about all that on today's show. Before we do though, let me please give thanks to our sponsors. We're brought to you by Elemental Labs. Elemental Labs makes the on-the-go version of Zero Hunger Water, and they're giving us a free box of their electrolytes for free, any flavor you want. Chocolate, they have lemon lime, they have orange, they have watermelon. It's one of my favorites. Simply go to zerohungerwater.com, click under shop, and you'll see the link there. We have an Amazon link, but we have their direct link as well where you can get the value bundle and you get a free box of $45 value for free. Go to zerohungerwater.com. Thank you to Rob Wolf for that. Awesome stuff. I use this when I'm at the gym, anytime I'm traveling and I don't have time to make my own zero hunger water, I use this. And if you just don't have time at all, this is the only thing to use. It saves so much time, so check it out. We're also brought to you by Primal Kitchen. I love Primal Kitchen because it turns off hunger as well. It's healthy fats made with avocado oil. And if you guys know, avocado oil is from a fruit, obviously it's from the avocado, but it's anti-inflammatory. And you wanted an anti-inflammatory oil if you're gonna be using it on a daily basis, canola oil, soybean oil is a horrible oil. It's in most salad dressings, it's in most deli foods. It's to be avoided. It causes hormonal havoc in women over 40. It's to be avoided. Avocado oil does the opposite. And my friend Mark Sisson is giving all of us, 'cause he's the creator of this company, a free bottle of their Lemon Chipotle Mayo made with avocado oil. Uh, it'll turn off hunger. Imagine a scoop of this on your meat, whether it's chicken or fish or steak. Delicious. For free, simply go to the following URL. It's primalkitchen.com/jorgecruise, my name. All right guys, with that said, let's get started with today's show. I'm excited. Let's talk about zero hunger water. What is it? Basically, it's water with salt. That's it. Breakthrough, right? It is. There's no one talks about this. If you're part of Weight Watchers, if you're part of the South Beach Diet, you've been doing Nutrisystem, if you've been doing any weight loss plan for the last 30 years, no one talks about electrolytes. No one talks about correcting a mineral imbalance that we all have. And especially if you're doing a ketogenic diet, which a lot of people in midlife are doing because it works— this is the old Atkins diet— you gotta do more minerals. And if you drink coffee, you have to drink more minerals because you deplete your sodium levels in your bloodstream. And so It creates this hunger, this ravishing hunger. And if you eat carbs, it's gonna cause more hunger. So here's the thing, two things. When you drink Zero Hunger Water, and again, here's how you make it. It's half a teaspoon of salt in 32 ounces of water. I'm gonna say it one more time. Half a teaspoon of salt in 32 ounces of water. That's 90% of the recipe, if not 95% of it. If you wanna add potassium and magnesium, a very small, small amount, You need to go to zerohungerwater.com and download the recipe so you can see it. There's a video class I do on making it. I made this on national television on The Doctors show. Check it out. It's super easy. But right now, don't even worry about it. Half a teaspoon of salt in 32 ounces of water. That's all you got to worry about. It's that simple. If you want to add a little lemon to it, do it. If you want to add a little cacao powder, unsweetened cacao powder, that's fine. You can add a little bit of stevia or monk fruit for sweetness if you want. That's it. Keep it simple, guys. You're not gonna eat for 2 to 3 hours. I drink one of this upon rising, 32 ounces of it. I have one 2 or 3 hours later. I have another one 2 or 3 hours later. Before you know it, it's 4 or 5 o'clock in the afternoon, I have my meal. Tomorrow's show, we're gonna talk about how and what to eat to turn off hunger. Big spoiler alert here, it's gonna be an animal-based protein with fat, low carbs across the board all the time. It's not necessary to have fiber and carbs in our diet. It feeds our hunger, it causes hormonal havoc in people that are over 50, particularly the ladies, ladies. If you have hormonal issues, carbs are not our friend. I did a PBS special 10 years ago with Dr. Christiane Northrup from Dartmouth University. She was also Oprah's gynecologist on the show during the Oprah Winfrey Show era, and I've worked with her. We did a PBS special together. And I'll tell you the number one thing that causes hormonal havoc, ladies, in your body is carbs. Carbs turn into sugar. Sugar causes craziness in women and in men. I mean, now all of us, and belly fat, and who wants that? That's not good. High waist circumference is caused and linked to all the underlying health conditions from type 2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. So we want to lower the carb intake across the board, swap that out for healthy protein, proteins and fats. We're going to talk about that tomorrow. Today, go to zero— Z-E-R-O— hungerwater.com. Get the recipe for free, or get the, the, the product I mentioned here, because you can get a box for free as well, the Elemental Lab version. And start using this today, guys. And then tomorrow we're going to talk more about what to be eating on this plan. All right?
