#143 - What to Eat
13 Oct 2021 · 11 min
In this October 13, 2021 episode of the Zero Hunger Guide podcast, host Jorge Cruise expands on his Zero Hunger methodology, focusing on the foods that best suppress appetite during a 23‑hour fasting window (OMAD – one meal a day). He argues that traditional frequent‑meal patterns are counter‑productive for longevity, weight loss, and overall health. Cruise promotes a 23:1 fasting:eating schedule, emphasizing that the single daily meal should be rich in animal‑based protein and healthy fats while minimizing carbohydrates, which he claims drive hunger, insulin spikes, and belly fat. He details his preferred protein sources—ribeye steak, beef patties, chicken, fish, bacon, hot dogs—and suggests simple preparation methods. Healthy fats such as avocado oil, butter, and heavy cream are recommended to further curb appetite. Cruise also re‑introduces Zero Hunger Water, an electrolyte blend (salt, magnesium, potassium, optional stevia/monk fruit) that he says can be consumed throughout the day to maintain appetite suppression. Sponsorship mentions for Elemental Labs (pre‑made Zero Hunger Water packets) and Primal Kitchen (avocado oil and lemon‑chipotle mayo) are woven into the discussion. Throughout, Cruise cites personal client results (up to 25 belly‑inch reductions, 2 lb weight loss per day) and teases an upcoming interview with Dr. Paul Saladino on carnivore nutrition. The episode concludes with calls to action: coaching sign‑ups, product purchases, podcast subscriptions, and reviews, framing the Zero Hunger approach as a lifestyle revolution.

Happy October 13th, I'm Jorge Cruise and welcome to the Zero Hunger Guide podcast. Uh, on today's episode, guys, we are going to go deeper into our conversation we had yesterday. Uh, being that it's fall, it's the middle of October, we're going to be talking about not just about how to turn off hunger through Zero Hunger Water, but today we're going to talk about what to eat, the ideal foods that you can eat to turn off your hunger so that way when you eat you feel full and you don't feel 20 minutes later that you have to eat again. There's a lot of times I've worked with so many celebrity clients that literally, uh, need to eat every hour or every 3 hours. And if you're from that old school mindset, well, you've gotta eat every 3 hours. You're gonna learn on today's show as well why that is counterintuitive to longevity, counterintuitive to weight loss, counterintuitive to optimal health, and how eating one meal a day, OMAD, that's an acronym, it's a part of intermittent fasting, is truly the probably the most important distinction as an author of diet books that, uh, that I've discovered in the last 3 years. I wrote a book a couple years ago called Cruise Control, and that talked about doing a 16-hour fasting window and an 8-hour eating window. We now rev it up to 23 hours of fasting to 1 hour of eating. Uh, some of my clients give themselves up to 3 hours, but 1 hour is usually what they, they utilize. And the trick is obviously using yesterday's show to talk about Zero Hunger Water and how to turn off, uh, hunger during the 23 hours. But today we're talking about what to eat during that hour, cuz that's critical as well because you can really, uh, optimize what you get as a result by what you eat and understanding which macronutrients will turn off hunger further. So all that on today's show, guys. Let's get started right now. Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, but I'm also known as the Zero Hunger Guy. I'm a celebrity fitness trainer and a multiple New York Times bestselling diet author with 12 million fans. You may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, Kelly Clarkson, or even Steve Harvey. My career started because I was addicted to sugar, carbs, salty snacks, and stress, and experts told me to simply count calories to get control. They were wrong. My passion to get radical control over both physical and emotional health has led me to find science-proven shortcuts that help my clients drop 25 belly inches or even more fast and permanently. And I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Zero Hunger Revolution. All right, guys. So, uh, welcome. It is Wednesday. It's October 13th. I'm Jorge Cruise and you're at the Zero Hunger Guy podcast, guys. Let's get started with what to eat and how to eat to turn off hunger. Because I'll tell you the biggest mistake all my clients make. And if you are trying to drop belly inches up to 25 belly inches or drop what I've talked about, uh, in magazines up to 2 pounds a day, I can tell you there's one macronutrient you're going to have to swap out and that is carbohydrates. Carbs, as delicious as they are and as comforting as they are, to our, to our mind and to our body because of the serotonin they produce. They feel good. That's why we get addicted to them. Unfortunately, causes hunger to go up every single time, even if it's couscous, whether it's whole grain rice, whatever it is, as whole as it is, it will turn into sugar. And when the sugar goes up, your insulin goes up. When insulin goes up, you gain belly fat. And we want to avoid that. And more importantly, we don't want to be hungry because here's what carbs do. They feed hunger. And so you want to eat something 20 to 30 minutes later and you never feel satisfied. So if carbohydrates are an issue and we need to swap them out, what do we swap for? Right, guys? So what the science has shown, and this has now been around for a little bit of time, obviously a couple of years actually, is that protein is the most satiating nutrient, macronutrient out there, and followed up by fats, healthy fats, because there are all sorts, all sorts of fats, all sorts of proteins. They need to be healthy sources, and there's a lot of debate on that. We're going to talk about that on today's show as well. Uh, before we do all that, guys, let's give thanks to our sponsors. We're brought to you by Elemental Labs. I love Elemental Labs because if you listen to yesterday's show, we talked about Zero Hunger Water, and Zero Hunger Water is really just half a teaspoon of salt in 32 ounces of water. You add a little bit of magnesium potassium for maximum appetite suppression, and then if you want to make it taste good, you add some stevia, monk fruit, or even xylitol. To the mix. But if you don't have time to do all that, the key to saving time is Elemental Labs, and they have created a value bundle where if you buy this bundle, you get a fourth box for free. It's a $45 value. It could be any flavor you want. This is the only Zero Hunger Water approved product that I've endorsed. Check it out at zero, zero hunger water.com. Sign up by simply going to shopping. There's an Amazon page, but below it, there's a link. That says get the free bundle. It's a $45 value. Get that cuz you'll get it and you'll get it long-term and it's absolutely delicious. Pre-made. They have flavors like chocolate, watermelon, lemon, lime, orange, like Tang. It's all the best stuff. And literally one packet goes into 32 ounces of water, turns off your hunger. I drink 3 to 4 a day, sometimes 5 or 6 depending on the day. So check them out. ZeroHungerWater.com is where you get your free box of electrolytes. We're also brought to you by Primal Kitchen. Primal Kitchen creates the healthy fats I love to put on my protein, which we're going to talk about today. And we're going to talk about healthy fats, but avocado oil being one of the best out there, truly the Mercedes-Benz of premium, premium oils out there. A lot of what we eat has canola, soybean oil, which is very inflammatory to the body, including corn oil. And so what this oil does, avocado oil, it's anti-inflammatory, turns off hunger, keeps your skin looking young. Your joints do not get inflammation and it's delicious. They have salad dressings, check them out, but they're giving us a bottle of free lemon chipotle mayonnaise. Simply go to primalkitchen.com/jorgecruise to get your free bottle of lemon chipotle mayo. It's delicious. I put a dollop of it on my steak. We're gonna talk about that. So let's talk, let's, let's, let's chew the fat as they say. Let's talk about eating. Let's talk about what the heck to eat when you break a fast, if your goal is to not be hungry, here's the bottom line, guys, jot this down. Protein, protein, and protein. Protein is the key to turning off hunger. And I'm going to be really specific. I may get some of you writing in and saying, Jorge, this is not cool. I thought you liked plants. And I do love plants. There they are. I like palm trees. I'm offsite here once again today, and I'm in a nice place where I got some trees, but I can tell you, I'd rather look at them than eat them because my research and my interviews with Dr. Paul Saladino Vino, which will be on the show this Friday, have concluded, and he wrote a book called The Carnivore Code that Mark Sisson, uh, the creator of Primal Kitchen, uh, uh, also endorsed, has really made clear that a lot of the plant-based nutrition we eat is unnecessary for many reasons, both because it's, uh, it can cause inflammation, it can cause bloat, if you will. Uh, a lot of these plants can, and, uh, and also they're, they're basically something that's not gonna satiate your hunger, in my opinion. You know, it's water, it's carbohydrates, it's fiber, and what you need is protein. Protein is the key to it all. So with a carb that's out there, you know, whether it's a plant-based one or a processed one, I, I'm gonna tell you to cut back on those. Focus in on the protein, protein, protein, animal-based protein. Pea protein is a, is a shake of some of my celebrity clients utilize. It's more concentrated, it's highly processed, but you could do that if you're vegan. If you are a vegan, please email me at Jorge @zerohungerguy.com. We may do a whole show for vegans on how to get the best protein sources if you're vegan. Between you and me, guys, you want to get the cleanest source that's animal-based. I love ribeyes. I love beef patties. I love hot dogs, bacon, chicken, fish. It goes on and on. And, and I keep it simple. I kind of automate my meals by having the same thing every day. I know it's kind of boring, but it takes to do a ribeye, for example, 5 minutes on one side and I flip it 5 minutes on the other side, little salts on each side. And it's delicious. It's super simple and I'm full all darn day. So that's my goal for you. That way you don't feel hungry and you don't overeat at night and you use the Zero Hunger Water when you do need that little extra appetite support. The meal holds you up and then you're set. And remember, you want good protein, healthy fats. Remember, avocados are great, but so is butter, for example. So is heavy cream, just as long as it's low in sugar and butter doesn't have sugar. So that's the key to it, guys. I hope this makes sense. What I would suggest is that when you start your day with Zero Hunger Water and watch and listen to yesterday's show, you drink your water upon rising and probably 2 or 3 of those throughout the day. Then you plan on your big meal. And once you have that big meal, you're set. You're set for the day. You may have a chocolate Zero Hunger water at night. That's what I tend to do. You go to bed, you will not be hungry. You have zero hunger. You'll drop up to 24 belly inches, up to 2 pounds a day, guys. And best of all, you're gonna feel phenomenal. So if you have questions, please email me, Jorge@zerohungerguy.com. Check out everything you need at zerohungerwater.com to get started on the revolution. And let me coach you guys.
