#145 - The NEW science of radical hunger control
23 Nov 2021 · 14 min
In this solo podcast episode, celebrity fitness trainer and bestselling diet author Jorge Cruise introduces his "Zero Hunger" approach, arguing that conventional weight‑loss wisdom (calorie counting, plant‑based diets, fiber pills) is fundamentally wrong. He claims that sodium—when paired with magnesium and potassium and consumed in a low‑insulin environment—acts as an "off‑switch" for appetite, enabling people to fast for 16–23+ hours, lose up to two pounds a day, and improve energy and longevity. Cruise outlines the simple "Zero Hunger Water" recipe (½ tsp salt per 32 oz water, optional pinch of magnesium/potassium, lemon and stevia/monk fruit for flavor) and explains why salt does not raise blood pressure unless carbs raise insulin. He shares anecdotal success stories from celebrity clients (e.g., Brooke Burke) and promotes a 19‑day challenge, urging listeners to subscribe, review, and spread the "Zero Hunger Revolution." The episode also includes sponsor plugs for Primal Kitchen avocado‑oil mayo and Elemental Labs’ pre‑made Zero Hunger Water, with links and free‑box offers.

What if I told you that everything you've learned about weight loss, longevity, disease prevention is wrong, and that it all comes down to not what we've been told— counting calories, uh, eating healthy, plant-based nutrition— the list goes on and on. I've been doing this myself as a diet author for over 20 years. But imagine all that is wrong and that the new science on nutrition and health is all about salt, sodium. Imagine knowing how to utilize this thing that's been vilified we've been told that's going to cause high blood pressure, being the actual solution to not just losing weight fast, like 2 pounds a day, losing belly inches, improving your longevity, but also maximizing energy so you have radical control over your hunger. We're going to talk about that all on today's show. Let's get started right now. Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, but I'm also known as the Zero Hunger Guy. I'm a celebrity fitness trainer and a multiple New York Times bestselling diet author with 12 million fans. You may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, Kelly Clarkson, or even Steve Harvey. My career started because I was addicted to sugar, carbs, salty snacks, and stress, and experts told me to simply count calories to get control. They were wrong. My passion to get radical control over both physical and emotional health has led me to find science-proven shortcuts that help my clients drop 25 belly inches or even more fast and permanently. And I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Zero Hunger Revolution. Welcome to the podcast. It's November 23rd. It's Turkey Week. Happy Thanksgiving if I don't hear from you again, but I hope this week, tomorrow included, and Thursday and Friday, you're going to tune into the show and you're going to get your loved ones involved because what we're doing next Monday is starting a 19-day challenge to the best health of your life. I'm going to send you the invitation on this show on how to reach out to me. Today, like we said earlier, we're going to talk about this new science of salt. You may be thinking, uh, salt, I don't like it, my doctor says be careful of it. We're going to talk about why everything you've learned about salt is wrong and how this one mineral combined with magnesium and potassium can be the off switch to hunger. Because my whole platform has shifted in the last 20 years from being a weight loss coach, a fitness trainer, all that, into really being just someone who really can give you the tools to control your appetite. Because if you can turn down your appetite and you can eat 1 or 2 meals a day, you're going to lose weight automatically. And you get to eat the foods you love when you break your fast. And I don't care if you're a carb lover or a meat lover, you can do what you want during your what is known as an eating window. But the other hours, say up to 16 or even 23 hours, normally people call that a fasting window where you don't eat. I call it a zero hunger window. That's why you don't eat, because you forget to eat because you're full. It's going to be doable and it's not going to involve any fiber pills or diet pills. Those things are not sustainable long term. We're going to talk about why salt can turn off your hunger and why what you've been told about salt and how it's been made a bad guy, a villain, it's wrong. So before we do that, I want to give thanks to our sponsors. A big shout out to Mark Sisson and his team over at Primal Kitchen. Thank you guys for giving all us listeners to the Zero Hunger Guide podcast a free jar of his lemon chipotle mayonnaise. It was just talked about on the Joe Rogan podcast. This is the stuff I put on whatever I'm eating when I'm breaking my fast. I put a dollop or two to on meat, on fish, on chicken, on vegetables. Mayo is really healthy if it's made from avocado oil. Now unfortunately, most mayo is made from canola oil. Canola oil or corn oil or any of these vegetable oils are inflammatory to our face, our skin, joints, and you don't want that. You want to avoid bad fats. Vegetable oils, seed oils are bad. Now avocado oil, that's a fruit, avocado is a fruit, is the healthiest plant-based oil out there. And it works great, it turns off your hunger, and it's delicious. So check this out, go to primalkitchen.com/jorgecruise and sign up and have your free bottle sent to you. You can use it for Thanksgiving, you can use it whenever you want for the holidays. Try it, you'll get hooked on it. We're also brought to you by Elemental Labs. I love Elemental Labs because they make the only approved Zero Hunger Water beverage that is ready to go if you don't have time to make it. If you don't know about Zero Hunger Water, that is what we're gonna talk about partly today on the show when we talk about The science of salt. Basically, Zero Hunger Water is a product that basically you make yourself. It's a do-it-yourself at home. We're going to talk about the formula today on today's show, but if you happen to be someone who has no time and want to pre-made and sweetened with stevia, which is not going to raise your insulin, check out zerohungerwater.com. That's Z-E-R-O hungerwater.com to get your free box of approved Zero Hunger Water. Alright, with that said, guys, let's get started. So the new science of salt, what is this? What is it about? It's super simple, guys. It's about understanding that sodium is the most important mineral that we are lacking in today's world. Now, most people, number one thing they ask me, this is, I don't care if it's a celebrity, an A-lister, or someone on Instagram, they're like, Jorge, I'll try it, but I'm scared of having high blood pressure. Here is the only way blood pressure goes up with salt. You have to pair salt with a high insulin environment. Now, what is a high insulin environment? A high insulin environment is when you eat carbs, whether it's bread, pasta, a fruit— anything that's high in carbs is high in sugar. I've called this in the past sugar carbs. I tell most of my clients— if you're part of my Zero Hunger Live program where I coach people daily live, I'll be doing it today if you want to join us— but I tell my clients to not exceed 24 grams of carbs a day, which is about 100 sugar calories because it's times 4 calories per gram. If you exceed that, you're going to be high sugar, high carb, high insulin. Then salt is going to be an issue. Check with a doctor. But I will tell you this, if you have a low carb diet and you're following something like a keto diet or an Atkins diet or high protein diet, and you're not taking in more than 24 grams of carbs, salt will never raise your blood pressure. What it will do, and now let's get into this, guys, is gonna turn off your hunger, your craving specifically for the things you wanna overeat, because I promise you, I've worked with enough celebrities, A-listers, probably the funniest story is with Brooke Burke in Malibu. Brooke was the host of Dancing with the Stars for years. I love her, but she used to carry a can of tuna when she was hungry. Now, only Brooke Burke in Malibu would carry a can of tuna in her gym bag to eat something. Most of us, when we overeat, what are we overeating? It's not a can of tuna or eggs or protein. It's carbs, it's bananas, it's fruit, it's an orange, it's apples, it's bread, it's gluten-free this and that. Unfortunately, it all raises insulin, and when insulin goes up, you're gonna have problems. So when you avoid that with salt, salt is actually gonna help you eat less carbs. You're not gonna be craving it. You're gonna eat less in general so you can fast, get this, guys, up to 23 hours a day. Most of my clients average 21 hours, some of them 16, some of them do 23. And I have certain clients on Mondays that will do a 3-day fast that goes for 3 solid days, 72 hours. Zero hunger water, let me tell you about that, is basically salt. It's adding half a teaspoon of salt to 32 ounces of water. Now, if you're one of these people that carry a gallon of water with you, that's awesome, that's me. 2 teaspoons of salt in a gallon of water. Remember, it's half a teaspoon for 32 ounces. A gallon of water is 128 ounces. So you're set. It's that simple. Now, if you want to get fancy, go to zerohungerwater.com, get the actual recipe. I have it there. So you can add a pinch, just a tiny pinch of magnesium potassium. I give you the amounts at the website, zero, zero hungerwater.com, and you can add lemon and stevia or monk fruit to give it flavor. And again, if you want to get the on-the-go version, if you have no time, then you'll click on free box and you can sign up for that as well. And literally it has the exact amount of half a teaspoon of salt for 32 ounces of water. Email me at jorge@zerohungerguy.com, and I want to take your questions. I'll be back tomorrow. We're going to talk about really the myths behind fiber, plant-based nutrition, and then more importantly, we're going to talk about what to eat to turn down hunger. Even if you're carb-based and you like carbs, you're a carb lover, you don't have to be a meat lover to break a fast in a way that turns down hunger. I'm going to tell you which carbs to go for if you're going to do that, that are going to be the most filling but the least insulin-raising. Keep insulin levels low, and you do that, you're not going to feed your hunger. And more importantly, drink the Zero Hunger Water, you're going to turn down hunger so much where you have energy all day. I'm going to the gym right now, and I'm not eating until Tonight, guys, I have the best workouts. So do all my celebrity clients without eating carbs, without worrying about blood sugar. That is a myth. That is a true myth. All right, guys, peace and purpose. Have a great Tuesday, and I'll see you back tomorrow. Take good care. All right, today's episode is complete, guys.
