#146 - Happy Thanksgivings
25 Nov 2021 · 13 min
In this solo Thanksgiving‑themed episode recorded on November 25, 2021, fitness trainer and author Jorge Cruise introduces his "Zero Hunger Soul" framework, which links emotional eating—especially cravings for sugar and carbs—to unmet emotional needs such as loneliness, stress, or past trauma. He explains that carbohydrates act as a pain‑numbing, addictive substance, whereas protein and healthy fats do not provide comfort but support muscle and health. To counteract the urge to over‑indulge, Cruise advocates gratitude, prayer (or connection to a higher power), and mindful eating of protein/fat‑rich foods. He shares a guided Thanksgiving prayer, promotes his sponsors (Primal Kitchen avocado‑oil mayo and Zero Hunger Water with a DIY electrolyte recipe), and announces a free, limited‑capacity challenge beginning December 5, inviting listeners to email him for a VIP spot. The episode blends personal anecdotes, scientific claims about sugar addiction, practical dietary tips, spiritual encouragement, and promotional calls‑to‑action.

Hey guys, it's Jorge Cruise. It's November 25th. I'm super happy you're here, guys. It's a beautiful day here in San Diego, and I thought on today's podcast I'd share with you what I call the zero hunger soul, which is really about helping us realize that sometimes when we crave sweets, and today's that day, a lot of us will be having some pumpkin pie, apple pie, cherry pie, carbs, potatoes, all that. And none of that is bad if we have it with some protein and some healthy fats. But the problem is a lot of times the holidays, and this is a kickoff now to 2021 holidays, Thanksgiving is that, we get a little stressed, we get a little lonely, we get a little sad, or maybe we gather with friends and family and then at the end of the meal we just end up overeating sweets because we're gonna depart and head back home and maybe we live alone and that loneliness inside can cause us to want to numb. And it's not our fault that sugar and carbs help numb pain. It's been scientifically shown that sugar can be as addictive as certain hard drugs like heroin, and it numbs us. That is why we're addicted to that, and no one's overeating protein today, right guys? As much as we'll have turkey, it's not like something you got to worry about, and it's not going to raise your insulin, it doesn't numb you, and it doesn't cause weight gain. But again, it doesn't numb you, so there's a reason why we don't go after it. So on today's show, we're going to talk about how we can hopefully fill that empty void inside our hearts, if that's what it is, with what I call the zero hunger soul. So let's get started right now.
Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, but I'm also known as the Zero Hunger Guy. I'm a celebrity fitness trainer and a multiple New York Times bestselling diet author with 12 million fans. You may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, Kelly Clarkson, or even Steve Harvey. My career started because I was addicted to sugar, carbs, salty snacks, and stress, and experts told me to simply count calories to get control.
They were wrong.
My passion to get radical control over both physical and emotional health has led me to find science-proven shortcuts that help my clients drop 25 belly inches or even more fast and permanently. And I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Zero Hunger Revolution.
Happy Turkey Day.
We're back. It's Jorge. So we're gonna talk about the zero hunger soul on today's show. And for me, it's about understanding that a sense of gratitude is the key that turns down a sense of hunger in our heart. And it's not our fault. For me, I grew up, you guys know my story, but I had a very traumatic childhood. I wasn't allowed to be who I was and my family negatively negatively reinforced me. My grandmother who raised me physically, and not that it was abusive, but it was definitely traumatic. And regardless, for me, the way I think I survived that, and I think all of us survive that no matter what our childhood or adulthood is, is we try to minimize the pain. And so there are certain things out there that numb pain, and I can tell you it's not protein, it's not fat, but out of all the foods that we can ingest that turns down pain, carbohydrates is number one. It's the only thing that will numb us, and carbs do that. Carbohydrates, whether it's couscous, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, or straight up sugar, all those things help us feel better. They give us a sugar high. It's why it's called comfort food, right guys? So it's not our fault that on Thanksgiving we probably are thinking more about the mashed potatoes, the stuffing, and the pumpkin pie than we are about the turkey. Now the Turkey is made out of protein and fats. It's not going to numb us. It just has no— there's no comfort in that.
It's something that helps build muscle, helps restore our health, but it doesn't comfort us.
So now, is that bad?
It is if that's the only outlet.
So what I want to share with you right now is what I call Zero Hunger Soul, and it's a way through prayer to really utilize a higher power of your choosing to give you strength. And before we do that, I want to give thanks to our sponsors on this Thanksgiving. Super grateful. To Primal Kitchen. I'm using them at Thanksgiving today. Primal Kitchen makes this avocado oil-based product, both in salad dressing form and mayo. I'm gonna be using the mayo. It's gonna be what I put on my turkey, actually. Chipotle lemon mayonnaise. Most mayos, I'm sure you guys know, are made with soybean oil. Soybean oil is inflammatory. If you have joints like I do and you're 50 or older, you're gonna get swelling in your joints. You're gonna age your skin. You're gonna age your body with soybean oil. Canola oil is also pretty bad.. And so is corn oil. So hopefully today on Thanksgiving, you're not using any of those. Use butter, way better. Use butter. Beef tallow is something I use sometimes when I cook to give things better flavor, or avocado oil like Primal Kitchen does. And they're giving us this entire month and next month as well, a free lemon chipotle mayonnaise. You simply need to go to primalkitchen.com/jorgecruise and claim it, and it'll be sent to you so you have it, uh, for the next holiday meal. All right guys. And we're also brought to you by, uh, Zero Hunger Water. That's my website. Now, Zero Hunger Water is fueled by, in the sense of the ready-made, by Elemental Labs. And I love these guys. It was started by another friend of mine, Rob Wolf. Happy Thanksgiving to Rob and his team over at Elemental Labs because they have crafted the most powerful electrolytes. I call it Zero Hunger Water. When you add it to 32 ounces of water, you literally turn off your hunger for 2 to 3 hours. I drink maybe 3 or 4 of these a day. It's how I do one meal a day. Today I'm doing that as well and just drank the 32 ounces of my Zero Hunger Water. And if you're interested in getting a free box of this, they have that for us. Just go to zero, zero hunger water.com, click on free box and it'll hook you up to a special promo I have with them. If you just wanna make it at home today, you can do it. It's half a teaspoon of salt and 32 ounces of water. Add a little lemon, add a little sugar-free sweetener like Stevia or monk fruit, and you're set. All that at zerohungerwater.com. All right guys. So let's get to the zero hunger soul on this Thanksgiving. For me, the zero hunger soul is really about understanding that there is a reason sometimes in our heart, we are sad and whatever the situation is, we can linger on the mess that maybe happened to us when we were younger, or we can think of a message to strengthen us in today's moment. And I'm more into The thinking that if we do the second thing about really just utilizing what happened and not trying to change the past because we can't, but to really see it in a lens through what I would call God's perspective. This lens of God's perspective is what gives us this grace and gives us comfort. So we don't become, uh, I hate to call it slaves to carbs because so many of us, and I was one of these guys. That through my 20s and 30s, for the most part, I couldn't stop overeating sugar and carbs, and I had to fight it when I was younger with just shame. And as I got older, it was just going to the gym for hours and hours. And now at 50, I go to the gym because I love it. It's good mental health, but I don't use it as a way to out-train a poor diet. And so let's do this, guys. On this Thanksgiving, I want you to join me in a simple prayer. You can just listen to the words. You can replay this. Please share it with your loved ones, especially if they're struggling with addictions to sugar. And carbs, salty snack foods, and even alcohol. This will help, I hope, give some strength and some beauty to, you know, that all is well. All right, guys. So with that said, guys, if you would join me in this, let's bow our heads really quick and let's ask God for some grace on this Thanksgiving. All right. So let's bow our heads, guys. Dear God, we ask you today on this beautiful Thanksgiving Day to direct our thinking, especially asking that it be divorced from self-pity. Dishonesty and self-seeking motives. And God, we ask for inspiration and intuitive thought or decisions on anything we have to do today, that we just remain calm and relaxed and we take it easy and we, we don't struggle on this Thanksgiving Day. We remember to give thanks for all that we have, from the beating of our heart to our loved ones, to the food on the table. And we especially ask you, God, from freedom from self-worthiness.
Will.
And we are so careful, God, to make sure that we make no requests for ourselves unless it can help others. We're here to provide maximum service to our loved ones and to those that we encounter. And we thank you, God, for this beautiful day and for this time to reflect with loved ones today about how lucky we are to be alive. In your name. Amen. So I hope that helps, guys. That's called The Zero Hunger Soul. For me, it's just about really understanding that we can find comfort through prayer. And again, it's not about an institution. You don't have to be Catholic or Christian. You don't have to be a Buddhist. It's about having a sense of a higher power, whatever that God is for you. I hope this helps, guys. Have a beautiful Thanksgiving. I'll see you back tomorrow with a big announcement. And if you're interested in working with me, guys, I'll just end with this. Shoot me an email today. Let me know your name, where you're at, what your goals are. Maybe include a before picture. And the first 100 people to send that will obviously be selected. I'll be sending out the link though.
