Hi, I'm Jorge Cruise, number one New York Times bestselling author and celebrity trainer, and I want to welcome you to the all-new Jorge Cruise Podcast. Every week I'll bring you the shortcuts to work better, reduce pain, improve memory, garden more, and even sleep better. It's not just about intermittent fasting or getting a flat belly. My mission is to give you simple ways that will empower you to live as you choose. Welcome to the Jorge Cruise Podcast. Hey everyone, it's Jorge Cruise and welcome to the Jorge Cruise Podcast. I'm super excited, guys. It's kind of that mid-time in January. It's the 13th. I mean, we've had some resolutions. You've had 13 days. My big question to you is how you doing? And at my side here is the lovely, the gorgeous, the very healthy and toned and my yogi friend in the world, Miss Shayna Taylor.
Shayna, don't make me blush.
Please. How's, how's the yoga going, by the way? You doing good with that?
Yes, I'm crushing it with the yoga.
Oh, do you feel the yoga? Yeah. Have you been doing it every day for 13 days?
No, I haven't been doing it every day, but I have been doing it 2 to 3 times a week, which is really good.
That's really good.
Yeah, instead of, you know, like I said, I was always in the gym and I'm a gym rat, boxing rat, all those things, and I've really been making it a priority to do yoga days and walk instead of doing like so much stuff in the gym.
And for those of you who may not know Miss Shayna, tell them briefly explain what you do. I don't know how you say it. We always give them a little shout out.
Owner and creator of Shayna's Kitchen and Bottle and Stone. Uh, Shayna's Kitchen is a health and wellness blog/lifestyle brand, and Bottle and Stone is an organic, uh, CBD farm that's truly farm-to-product.
Yes, and she's my only friend— literally, you're the only friend, and I know a lot of people that have a farm.
Yes.
I mean, does Oprah have a farm? I think she has a garden, but not a farm.
Not a farm.
You have a farm in Vermont. This is my friend with the farm in Vermont. She has hemp there and we're gonna see, I think this is my quarter to see it, this first, maybe this month, maybe February, but when is it good to go see this?
We will start in the spring.
'Cause everything's cold right now, yeah, no spring.
Yeah, after harvest they don't, nothing happens on the farm, you just kind of can't grow in cold climates.
Yeah, snow.
But come to spring, they'll be planting and starting the seedling, so.
Yep, and we're gonna be talking today, guys, let's get to the topic. It's about how to reduce inflammation in our feet, which for those of you who travel, and if you listened to last week's podcast, we mentioned how we both travel, we're kind of bicoastal, and you were talking about something that I think we should talk about a little bit today, but I wanna give my top tip and you give your top tip on really inflammation reduction in general, and there's things from cinnamon to avocado oil to compression socks, I mean, where do we start? Ladies first, you wanna go first?
My favorite go-to for anything inflammation in the body, including the feet, is Epsom salt baths. So I take full Epsom salt baths, but just, I mean, if you wanna just target your feet, if you've been walking all day and your feet feel inflamed or whatever it may be, just doing an Epsom salt soak with your feet, you can literally just get a bowl, whatever bowl you can find, put a cup of Epsom salts in there and some really nice warm hot water and soak your feet in there. I think that would be a really, really good, easy tip. And anyone can buy Epsom salt.
Oh yeah, you can get it at any drugstore. And it does taste kind of funky, so try not to touch it with your lips when you're soaking, because I do a whole bath. And I'm not saying I'm drinking it, but you know, sometimes you get water in your mouth and it tastes kind of funky. But it's a healer, it really is. It really is a really amazing healer. And you sleep better if you do the whole body.
It's anti-inflammatory.
I mean, I've been doing that for stress reduction. My kids know when I go in the bathroom, my son Parker is like, Dad, are you having a a salt bath.
I love salt, by the way. I take it all the time. And then I put CBD in there too, which is like, you want to sleep?
No, you can put it in the bathtub. Yes. Tell them all about CBD and how it works. Tell them what it is for those that are like, like, they're like, is that marijuana?
No, it's not.
Help us understand.
CBD is a type of terpene that you get from a hemp plant.
A terpene.
Terpene. So there's not just CBD. CBD is obviously the one that got the most popular, but there's CBG, there's CBN, which you'll start seeing, I think, a lot in 2020 this year.
Nice.
Um, Anyway, CBD is the— it does not get you high. Yes. It has— every product that is allowed to be sold in America has to be under 0.3% THC, so there's nothing in the whole bottle. You could drink a whole bottle and it's not going to do anything to make you high, but it's an amazing anti-inflammatory.
It helps with anti-stress.
It is.
CBD itself is anti-inflammatory.
Yes, putting that in your body and getting those good oils because it's typically mixed with MCT oil, which is also a really good— Yes, coconut oil. Yes. Yep, yep. Oil for brain function and good fat that's for the body, but—
And do you use it on a regular, or how do you recommend it?
Yeah, I use it in the morning and I use it at night, and it helps with sleep, it helps with anxiety, it helps with, I mean, you name it, it helps with a lot of things, yeah. So anyway, but it's same with—
And you put it in the bathtub?
Yeah, so you can, we're gonna do CBD infused bath salts, so it kinda is like a CBD oil mixed in with it. Oh, you are?
You're gonna do that?
Mm-hmm.
Under what label, 'cause you have—
Bottle and Stone.
Bottle and Stone, guys. Can they get on a mailing list or find out about it?
Yeah, you can subscribe to our website. So if you go to bottleandstone.us, you can add your email now to subscribe to when we'll be launching. And then obviously you can follow us on Instagram. You can follow any one of my Instagrams. We'll be obviously announcing the launch of the products then.
I'm excited for this year.
Yeah, yeah, 2020 is like, it's a big year for me.
It kicked me some ass. And I'm using her candles, your candles, by the way. Tell them what I'm using because you did a collaboration with—
I did, so I became really good friends with They're like a family now with this company called LaRouche's, and they're out of downtown LA.
LaRouche's.
LaRouche's.
Yeah, shout out to you guys.
Yeah, shout out to LaRouche's. And they're the first candle company I've ever discovered that does from completely organic, from beeswax. There's no chemicals. Like, what you don't realize is most chemicals— or most candles have chemicals in them. They have paraffin, they have all the stuff.
The last time I was filming, remember you looked at my candle?
Yeah, and I was like, I'm blowing this out.
My boyfriend Sean didn't know that this was not the highest level Right, but that's oil. And I think a lot of us will go to Target, and I'm not saying Target is bad. You can find good candles. Can you find them in little places like Target? I mean, big places? I mean, or do you have to go— where do you go for candles?
Are toxic. And like, soy is like such a trendy, supposed to be like a better-for-you candle, but there's also— there's toxins that burn out of soy.
So where do you go for your candles? I mean, you can find them on Amazon, you just have to know what to look for.
You just— beeswax. So beeswax, only essential oil. It should only be— for scents, you only need essential oils. And people put fragrance and people put paraffins, then they put chemicals and they put colors and they put dyes and they put all these things. And then you don't realize when you're burning, it's going into your air.
Toxins. You're burning toxic crap.
It's the number one cause of house-borne, like, toxicity.
Oh my god.
Like, you think you're getting it from the city outside, and when you're burning candles, you're making it 10 times worse.
So only beeswax candles.
And yes, chemical-free beeswax is the best, is the best option.
So yours is beeswax?
Yeah, so LaRouche's is—
tell them where to get this candle. Now we all need your candle.
Hand-poured. They only use essential oil.
I saw that on Insta.
Yes.
What's the Insta for that so they can see the candles?
Uh, the website for LaRouche's.
Well, for your candles.
Yeah, so my— yes, so it's on larouches.com, and my scent is called the New York Amethyst. So yes, so amethyst. Give them that website because it's a funky— www.larouches.com. So it's L-E-S- R-E-C-H-U-S, I think. Yeah, LaRouche's, L-E-C-H-U-S. Yeah, I'll look it up.
And it's beeswax, and beeswax lasts longer too, right? So you get a higher grade of everything.
You do. And it burns—
no toxicity when you burn this.
No.
And this is what I hate to say it, but I'm not saying ancient man, but in antiquity people use this kind of stuff, right?
Well, we've been— we've been— the thing is, is like, you know, LaRouche's is a little bit on the, on the expensive side of things, um, which people— I've, I've had people complain about it, but it's because It's because one, everything's poured in marble, so it's this gorgeous— it's— you can get the ones that aren't poured in marble and they're a little bit more, uh, they're on the more affordable side. But the ones that are in marble, you can actually either, you know, send it back to them, or you can use it as a pot for plant— like a vase for plants. Yeah, it's beautiful. Um, anyway, so yeah, the candle is— I did a unisex scent because I'm a fan of unisex.
Yeah. And so boys and girls can have this.
Yes. And then amethyst is my crystal. I don't know if you're into crystals at all.
Not yet, but you're gonna get me into astrology. I'm getting card reading.
I'm gonna get you a crystal.
I got candles going. I mean, Jorge is zen'd out. Shayna and I are doing our yoga.
Yes.
Where our feet are happy and we're reducing inflammation.
That's what life's about.
It is. So your top tip, recap it and then I'm gonna give you my tip. So reduction of inflammation for you is really, I mean, from CBD to—
Yeah, I think CBD to Epsom salts Or you can combine the two. I mean, even just putting CBD on the bottom of your feet before you sleep is great. On your shoulders is great. And then I, yeah, I guess those would be my two. My third one would be like the stress balls, the massage balls for your feet. Amazon sells them for like, I think $3 to $6. And you literally just stand on them and roll your feet on them. It is life-changing to relieve tension in your feet.
I mean, I've been getting my feet rubbed. I've been really lucky my whole life. And I always thought, I was like, oh, it's so stupid and it's embarrassing. I don't know if there's shame, but it was pure embarrassment that I like my feet rubbed. I thought I was some weird guy with some kinky thing for feet. But I like my feet rubbed, doesn't it? Who doesn't like their feet rubbed? Well, there's some people. I have met some weirdos. Have you met? No disrespect to people. Like, oh, don't touch my feet.
Yeah, that's true.
We respect you, of course.
I have an acupuncturist guy who literally can tell if I ate something bad from my feet.
Oh, cool.
The pressure points in my feet.
I need to meet him too.
He's like, did you eat a lot of carbs? I'm like, Gah, you caught me.
The feet say all. So let's keep our feet low inflammation. My tip, you know, really, and this is just a tip overall for overall inflammation, it's not so much a thing to eat or not eat, but it's about embracing intermittent fasting. I just want to be that guy that keeps reminding you that if you want to create health in your body, as much as food can help and CBD and Epsom salts and avocado oil, all these anti-inflammatory foods, that autophagy, this big fancy word that simply means housekeeping for your body, will reduce inflammation too. Just does everything. And that comes from taking a 16-hour— is hopefully intermittent fasting usually starts at 16 hours. You and I do about 20-some hours or more eating.
Yeah, we do about—
I do 20.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, sometimes 24. I mean, I would love to do also a New Year's resolution, which I'm gonna work on, but no pressure on myself, is I want to do a 3-day fast. Yeah, I want to start because, you know, they, they like— a lot of cancer doctors study, like professionals.
You know what, we should team up when we're on both coasts. We should do the Jack Dorsey, you know, the guy who created Twitter. Mr. Billionaire, and he's been on a lot of podcasts talking about his passion as a billionaire CEO. And he also created like the Square credit card thing that takes cards. Yeah, this guy is genius, genius, smart. He doesn't want to die either, and he— who does, right? Hopefully none of us want to die, and we all have to work hard. He runs Twitter, which is a big company, it's busy. I mean, it's also a big— and Square is a big deal, and he has a lot of stress. He eats one meal a day, he does the one meal a day, eats every 24 hours. And then what he does, which which I was blown away when I listened to this on a podcast. So I'll share it with you guys. It was on the Ben Greenfield Podcast, which I love Ben, he's a good guy. He takes Friday and Saturday to not eat at all continuously. So every Friday he does not eat. So he does a 48-hour fast every Friday, Saturday.
So good for you.

It's over a quarter of a million people that are getting this email, and it's going out every Monday, and I want you to be a part of it so you know what's coming up next every week. All right, guys, let's get back to the show. People, that's kind of my thing. I have not done it yet. Have you ever? Can you imagine every Friday and Saturday? 24 hours? Yes, I do that totally.
But I haven't gotten— I haven't done more than 24 hours, and I really want to because I keep— the more I read into about fasting, and not just intermittent fasting but fasting in general, how it's the one guarantee that doctors can say if you fast 7 days out of the year, you know, in a row, and if you can't do 7, at least do 3 a couple times a year. That's the only guarantee that will keep you from getting cancer because it allows your body to repair itself and become back in balance. And do you know, your body's an amazing machine, and if you don't give it the right things or the right, you know, it's of course it's gonna break down. Like if you try to put water into a car, it's not gonna work. You know, our bodies are machines and you have to give it what it needs, and including giving it time to repair itself and do what it's good at doing. And they say that fasting has— the studies they're doing on it is mind-blowing how it's people that have been out of balance for 20 years, all of a sudden their body is like going halfway back to normal.
Totally.
So I'm like, I have to do this.
No, no. And something I haven't mentioned, I've been working on a Lucille secret project because a lot of my celebrity clients, as much as we love, I mean, we're literally eating, tell them what we're eating.
I know, every time I come over here, I get a nice treat of chia seed pudding.
So we're getting some chia seeds, a little vanilla, added cinnamon, a little stevia, a little Sweet Leaf, shout out to them, shout out to the cinnamon people. And chia seeds are amazing. And I'm just all about the chia this year. And I feel like one of the things I'm working on though is a fiber bar made from coconut fiber. It has 3 net carbs. I want you to try one. I'll have some next week for you to try. Remind me and I'll bring one out. I want you guys to try this. I call it the automatic weight loss bar because it literally, it's a soft fiber and some of my clients, as much as it takes, how many minutes did it take us to make this? Seriously, not that much. It doesn't take any.
By the way, I prep it in my, I have these little cute little, like, little mason jars. Like mason jars?
Yeah, I love mason jars.
And I make like 3 or 4 of them and it lasts in the fridge for 3, 4 days. So every day, if you're in a rush, you just grab it and eat it.
Grab and go. I do this with Sonia Morgan here. Right in Columbus Circle, right by Equinox. Just gorgeous apartment. And we'll go in on, on Sundays usually, or Monday mornings. I'm going to see her today. We're going to literally get all her mason jars ready. It's not a lot of work. I mean, literally, my meal prep for her to do 7 days takes 7 minutes. It's a minute per mason jar. You pour 3 tablespoons of the chia seeds, you put your 8— it come— if you want it to be more mealy, more chunky, 8 ounces. If you want it to be more smoothie-like, 16 to 20 ounces. Little— hopefully stay stevia, some sweetener that you like. I love—
I like monk fruit.
Monk fruit. I love monk fruit too, huge fan of monk fruit. A little cinnamon for anti-inflammatory, and then you let it sit. I mean, literally it takes no more than 20 minutes for it to become— to bloom. They call it to bloom. And so it gets this nice, this membrane that passes through, and it's a cheat meal because it won't break your fast. It gives you incredible— 3 grams or 3 tablespoons has 30 grams of fiber.
That is Amazing.
Great, great.
Everyone needs that fiber. Oh my gosh. Because we do not, the number one thing Americans don't get enough of is fiber. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
We don't eat it anymore. Because we're all carb-free, we're scared, we're too keto'd up. And this is better than keto because we're eating plants and we love our plants, you know?
I mean, listen, no fad diet, I say this all the time, no fad diet works for everyone. So please, the only thing that works for everyone is intermittent fasting for the, I mean, even like for people, because some people are like, well, not everyone with healthcare problems. And I'm like, yeah, but even 12 hours, anyone can do 12 hours.
It's an ancient art. The Indians have done it. I mean, almost every religion from the Jewish religion to the Catholic. There's something about fasting, about purifying the body. So that's my tip, guys, to reduce inflammation in your foot, is to reduce it everywhere by doing some intermittent fasting, because even your feet will be happy with intermittent fasting. Your waistline will shrink too. Your waistline and your feet will be happy.
And eating an alkaline diet. If you do those two things, you're crushing it.
You know, and our buddy Dr. Gerald or Darryl Joffrey, I love Dr. Joffrey, Dr. Darryl as I call him, my best friend and brother here in Manhattan. He's got an incredible chiropractic practice. He works with your man, he works with Kelly Ripa. I think Kelly got everyone onto him.
Yeah.
So thank you, Kelly.
I mean, he healed her from all the gut problems that she had because he's not, you know, he's not just a chiropractor, he's a nutritionist and just a passionate person about helping people fully with their body. He tried, you know, a lot of doctors don't really get to the underlining thing. They just like prescribe you something to fix it, yeah, and it doesn't ever actually heal itself. He wants to get down to the blood cell problem. I mean, he gets to the nitty-gritty. He has passion, and he has so much passion, and he loves to help people. And you just don't meet people like that every day.
He's a beacon of light, and he's a brother in the light. And, you know, we're all like health Avengers, he says. And he's been on the show a few times, and we'll probably do a few things with him. And we should do one, all three of us, eventually. Yes, we should.
That would be fun.
We would definitely have like a Symposium, you know. So, but, so I have this fiber bar, it's called Automatic Weight Loss. I'll put a link in the bio, check it out. It's a fiber bar. It literally, do you remember as a kid, I mean, I used to be obsessed with candy, but this tastes like a Mounds bar, you know what I mean? This was Steve Harvey's favorite bar. He was the one that told me do it again. His wife Marjorie was obsessed, and it literally has 3 net carbs. So literally it's just all fiber. It's sweetened with stevia. There's a little erythritol in it. I wouldn't— it's not— you're not supposed to have a box of these every day. It's as a backup when you need an improper meal, because I'm gonna call it an improper meal. It's not a meal replacement. You want to have one, one minimum of one proper meal a day. Two, some of my clients do two in that 8-hour window. If you're like Shannon and I, we do up to 24-hour fasts. That's what I've been doing for a while now. And so when I eat, I eat properly. I have my good oils, I have my avocados, I have my salads, I have my siete chips.
I have your good fats. Man.
My good protein, all that. I have— I'll have my wine. You'll have wine on occasion?
Of course. I only do biodynamic wine now.
But yeah, which one are you using?
I, I changed up a little. Mostly from Italy. Yeah, Italian wines are my favorite. But, um, biodynamic is, uh, I mean, natural wine is good also. I mean, anything that's organic is my favorite.
Um, have you heard of, uh, Dry Farms? They have this sort of antelope, deer antelope logo. Really cool product. My mentor Mark Sisson, who's 66 now— Mark, he created Primal Kitchen, the avocado salad dressing company, you know, Primal Kitchen. And Mark is in Malibu originally, now he's in Miami. He sold his company last year. He's my brother in health, for $200 million to Kraft. Wow. For avocado oil. I mean, that's how anti-inflammatory that is. So get some of those good oils in, do the CBD and the salts like we talked about.
Realize I put a whole— but like, I put MCT tea oil in my matcha lattes, but I also started putting just a whole scoop of coconut oil.
Oh, you do? So that's pure health.
Yeah, actually Dr. Joffrey told me I needed to eat more healthy fats just because my body wants to burn sugar instead of fat.
Yeah, and it's just like good fats.
So I'm eating extra, extra fats. I'm like olive oil on everything, coconut oil.
I will— here's one avoid, and here's a huge one that Joffrey and I agree, and I don't know what your position is on vegetable oils, but it's inflammatory. I mean, should you preach about canola and corn?
I actually I really can't. Do you know what's funny? So last year, at the end of last year, Ryan and I went to this—
and remind everyone, if they say, who's Ryan?
So Ryan's my boyfriend, Ryan Seacrest. Um, so we went to the Amangiri Hotel, which is in— oh yeah, Arizona, or I guess, yeah, it's in Utah. But anyway, so we went, and, and I love this hotel, by the way. It's so, so, so, so, so beautiful. And I hate to put them on the spot because they were incredibly accommodating to us.
But, but you did, and you have to. But your thing—
I ended up— so the first night we got there, you know, we ordered pretty healthy considering, like, they had a pretty decent menu on like health stuff.
Yeah.
But what we didn't— and they cook everything in a pizza oven, like, with fire, which is like my favorite.
I love it.
I love it. But what we didn't realize is that they were using canola oil for everything.
Sorry. So part of my friends were so—
Ryan and I were so sick after because we don't eat that, you know, we don't— I haven't had canola oil in forever.
And canola oil, I hate to say it, but I mean, I hope they change this in 2020, but Whole Foods uses it in their deli and everything, everything. So my friend Mark Sisson orders every salad naked from Whole Foods, and he buys his own dressing at Whole Foods called Primal Kitchen. I'll hook you up with some. And that's Whole Foods. So, and that's— so it's there, and it's in this chic restaurant.
Amazon, we should put Amazon on blast.
So what do you do when you go to this restaurant? Do you make them bring in avocado oil? Or what do you— no, you do not.
So we— I was so sick. We were so sick. Like, our stomachs were like—
inflammation.
Oh my God. So I, I had my assistant email them early, bright and early in the morning, and said I would like to have a meeting with the chef, the, the food and beverage, and the manager of the hotel.
I love it. So you were the boss lady. You brought the team in. So I—
the hotel was like, this man was like, medicine. I know we're like kind of crazy that we made them— we had them— I made them make us homemade almond milk because I won't drink, you know, cartoned almond milk typically.
It's not that hard to make.
It's— no, it's, it's really not. So, and they followed us, and then they ended up being really accommodating, and every day they sent a fresh thing of almond milk for us. But like, even they tried it— they tried to trick and put almond extract, and I could taste it.
Yeah.
And I was like, I said just almond milk, nothing in it. And so it was just— it's funny, like, the head chef and I— he wasn't working actually the day that we were there, the first day.
It's okay, it went the wrong way.
Oh no, if it gets stuck, it gets stuck.
No, no, it's okay, but continue. So, and I want to hear about the song anyway. So what happened with the avocado?
I told them—
it's okay, continue please.
So I told them, I, I was like, I, uh, we cannot have canola oil, like definitely gluten. They knew the gluten-free thing, the corn-free thing, all that. Yeah, but I was like, we were so ill. And they were like, oh my gosh, we're so I was like, it's okay, you don't know, but like, please, for the rest of time we're here, can, can we always either use coconut oil or avocado oil? And so luckily they had avocado oil, and the head chef came that day and was like so apologetic, and he was like, I will cook for you guys the whole rest of time here. So every day he cooked us special food. He made sure it was avocado oil.
Wow.
They were so nice. But I told him, I'm like, you know, yeah, you people that, you know, the high-end clientele you have are all health-conscious like you should really just switch to avocado oil because we'll appreciate it.
I mean, you and I a million years ago went bonkers over Siete chips. Tell them why. What kind of oil do they use for those?
They use avocado oil.
Bonkers. And I think people go bonkers.
You try their new holiday one?
No.
They came out with this cinnamon sugar Siete, but they use coconut sugar.
I'm calling them right after this.
You should call them and have them. No, they still, they still have it at Whole Foods.
Okay, good, good.
It's, it's like a churro.
It tastes like churro because, you know, I grew up in a Latin Yeah, and that was a big deal to fry tortillas. Yeah, and then oil, but corn oil, because we don't like corn oil either. I think it's canola, it's corn oil. Which ones are the vegetables that everyone needs to avoid? We'll end on this because it'll inflame your foot.
It will inflame your whole body. Yeah, the whole body, which is including your foot.
Your foot will not love you, neither will everything. So corn oil is a no. Soybean oil, soybean oil, no, no.
Corn oil, canola, canola oil, no. What's another bad one? I think there's more.
Make a list of the bad. The good are avocado, coconut, coconut, olive oil, olive oil. Those are not vegetable oils, guys. Those are actually not vegetables. Corn is a vegetable, right? Canola comes from, I think, the grapeseed or rapeseed or some seed. Yeah, yeah, it's not a vegetable, or it's a vegetable, it's not a fruit.
And avocado is a fruit. Some people argue with it. I think if you're doing like, for instance if you have a family meal and you want to fry something, yeah, I think rice bran oil is a pretty good— it's okay.
Yeah, well, I use avocado almost on everything because it has the best cooking high temp temperature and it tastes good. I make my popcorn for my kids that way. Totally pop it, right?
I love using coconut oil.
And I'm the weird guy that, like you, will go to the movie theater with my boyfriend.
You'll go with your bag of popcorn, or I'll bring Cheeto chips.
