#34 - THINK FIT: I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MYSELF.
18 May 2020 · 17 min
In this May 18 2020 episode of the Jorge Cruise Show, host Jorge Cruise launches the ThinkFit series by emphasizing mental fitness as the second pillar of health after exercise. He opens with a quote about the mind‑body connection and cites alarming statistics about belly fat and its health risks. Cruise introduces his 8‑minute workout, intermittent fasting, and sleep strategies as science‑backed shortcuts, drawing on his 25‑year experience as a fitness and life strategist for high‑profile clients. The core of the episode is a guided affirmation—“I take good care of myself”—paired with a personal vow exercise where listeners write a concrete health commitment on a Post‑it note (e.g., a 9 p.m. bedtime). He stresses that consistency, rituals, and daily mental reinforcement are essential for lasting results. Listeners are prompted to share the episode with three people, engage via email (hello@jorge8minutes.com), and access show notes and the affirmation image on jorgecruise.com. Throughout, Cruise blends motivational storytelling with practical homework, aiming to create a community‑driven ThinkFit movement during the COVID‑19 pandemic.

Happy Monday morning. It is May 18th. I'm Jorge Cruise. And before we start the show today, guys, I want to share with you a quote that will kind of put everything in perspective. It says simply, your body hears everything your mind says. With that said, let's get started. It's a fact. 91% of us have a dangerous amount of belly fat, and it isn't just unsightly. When you have too much belly fat, you lower your immunity and increase your chances of diabetes, stroke, cancer, and even poor respiratory health. The good news is that you can reduce dangerous belly fat and reboot your life in just 8 minutes. Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, and I'm known as the 8-Minute Life Strategist to the world's busiest celebrities. I've been a fitness, nutrition, and life strategist for over 25 years, and you may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, President Bill Clinton, Tyra Banks, Wendy Williams, Kelly Clarkson, Dr. Oz, Tony Robbins, or even Steve Harvey. My passion to find science-backed life shortcuts has allowed me to write over 30 books and become a multiple New York Times bestselling author with over 9 million books in print. And I know I can help you too. Imagine getting the confidence you want during this COVID-19 world by having a life edge at any stage of your life, whether you're just starting your life or in midlife like myself or beyond. Even if you don't think you have enough time, money, or willpower, I know this podcast will show you how to finally put your life together. Welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. Well, happy Monday, guys. It is May 18th, and I am thrilled you're here right now. I want to thank you for listening to the show and, uh, and for sharing it with loved ones. We kind of re-kicked it off last week, and so this is our first full week of ThinkFit. And if you don't know what ThinkFit is, for me it is the key to everything. It is the key to galvanizing success in your life. As a trainer, you know how much I believe in exercise, but the key to maintaining the momentum all throughout the day and throughout your life, the second pillar, if anything, is ThinkFit. It really is. I mean, the base is exercise. I believe in that. That's why I do it in the morning. And I would suggest to you that the second pillar, though, is ThinkFit. Even before nutrition. It really is because you're not going to stick to an eating plan and you're not going to stick to an exercise plan long-term unless you have this thing in your head called your brain wired, rewired for some of us, or just rebooted. Because I can tell you, a lot of times we know better. We logically know better. But we don't do better. And that's because we got to go inside to the heart and we got to touch those feelings. And so ThinkFit is where we do that every single day, Monday through Friday. And I'm just so excited to have this week with you because we're going to have a great week, a great ThinkFit week. And I've got an affirmation today, a ThinkFit affirmation that is really going to, I hope, get you to make a commitment to yourself at a higher level because For years, people have talked about this, about how we put everyone first except ourselves. And whether it's work, professional type of relationships, personal relationships, whether it's your partner, a spouse, a boyfriend, girlfriend, or if you have kids or grandkids, they always come first. Everyone comes first. You come last and you're the one that's broken at the end of the day, end of midday. It doesn't even have to be the end of the night or anything. And you're just broken. And if you feel depleted, broken, you got to make yourself come first. And so today's ThinkFit show is all about that. It's really about making yourself a priority and making a vow to yourself. And I know that word is pretty powerful. It's usually only used when you make marriage vows or certain kind of like very like important commitments to others. But imagine making a commitment at that same level to yourself. Today, because that's what we're about to do. Because if you want to make your nutrition better, if you want to make your exercise better, and you want to make it so it's consistent— because as much as doing an 8-minute workout is nice, and, and eating in an 8-hour eating window and doing some intermittent fasting and cheating the fast is nice, if you do it once a day, great. But if you don't do it every single day and you do it once a day and then forget the other 6 days of the week It's not going to work. It has to be consistent. And so what ThinkFit does and what we're going to do today is going to give you the ability to be consistent with what you need to commit to, because consistency— it's our rituals that give us results. And if you have a ritual of making a commitment to yourself for 5 minutes or 1 day and then it's over, you know, maybe it lasts a week, but it doesn't last a lifetime. That's where you're losing your momentum. And so this is gonna get you to commit to yourself. And for me, I'll tell you, I'll just admit to my flaw. This is a big one I've been working on for 10 years, and I have made a commitment to myself. I put it on a Post-it note this morning that says bedtime at 9:00 PM for me, and I signed it, and it's sitting right in front of my laptop right here this morning. And so for you, I don't know what it is, but think right now of something that you know you could do better that you've been wanting to do better. Maybe you have been following my intermittent fasting plan that's out there. I wrote a book called Cruise Control Diet, you know, where you, you eat in an 8-hour eating window. Some of you may have seen my 4-hour eating window plan, which is called the Jorge's Flat Belly. Maybe you want to try to eat in a window like that and do some intermittent fasting, and you want to hack it. And you've tried it, you've had a little butter in your coffee to kind of like suppress appetite, but you're like, ah, and you did it once. But you haven't done it consistently. You haven't done it for say 90 days. Think of that. Maybe it's nutrition, maybe it's a workout. Maybe you've heard of my 8-minute workouts and you're like, hmm, I'll try that. And you try to walk for 8 minutes and you did it like for 2 days straight, but then nothing happened. So think of something you want to commit to right now and let's take a deep breath in. And I've got an affirmation that if you follow along with me right now in front of a mirror, ideally, and this is something I learned years ago, if you can stand in front of a mirror more power to you. And look at yourself when you say this. All right, but I'm going to say it 3 times, then I'm going to say it 3 more times, and I want you to say it with me when I do the second round. So the first round, just hear these words. Just hear these words right now. I take good care of myself. I take good care of myself. I take good care of myself. Now think about that Achilles heel you have, right? For me, it's sleep. I stay up a little too late sometimes. I've been— I get up early no matter what though, so that's not good taking care of myself if I go to bed late and wake up early. That doesn't work. The old saying is early to bed, early to rise, and I know better, but I gotta make it a commitment. So that's why it's on a Post-it. So what's your commitment right now before we say it 3 times? And I want you to stand tall. If you're not in front of that mirror, try to find one right now. Go to the bathroom. Put your shoulders back, chest out, your heart chakra, which is right in the center where your heart is. Put your hand on that heart. That's your heart chakra. Something I learned many years ago in yoga. Point it upward to the sky. Be proud. Stand tall. Forward gaze into the mirror. Look at your eyeballs right now. Close your eyes if you want and say the following 3 times with me right now. Are you ready? And even if you don't know what it is you got to do better or commit to yourself, just feel this experience right now. Right now, and it'll come to you if you don't know what it is. Deep breath in. Inhale in. Exhale out through your mouth. And say the following with me. We're going to do it 3 times. I take good care of myself. Again. I take good care of myself. One more time. Stand tall, no slouching. Deep breath in. Say the following: I take good care of myself. How does that make you feel? You're like, hmm, I'd like that. Good, because you will do it today. What we say to ourselves becomes our future. Oftentimes we say negative things. Why am I so fat? Why do I have no energy? Why am I so late easy. You ask a negative question, you get a negative answer. You change your thinking, you change your life. By affirming that you take good care of yourself, you affirm what you want in your life. And that, my friends, is the message you're going to be hearing from me every single morning on this podcast. I'm going to still be doing my interviews on Mondays, I got a great one today for you about sleep, ironically. But right now, you've given yourself that edge. You've said the affirmation. And so your homework is right here, right now. Get a sheet of paper out. Put this on your iPhone if you want. Put it on a Post-it is what I did. And write down your vow, the one thing you know that you need to do better. For me, it says bedtime at 9 PM, and I signed it Jorge Cruise. What's your commitment? What do you need to vow to, to take good care of yourself? Think of it right now. Is it following through on intermittent fasting? Is it picking an eating window to start eating and not just eating whenever? Is it having an end time of when to stop eating? Is it committing to some sort of exercise every single day at the same time? Consistency is how we create results. I tell this to all my celebrity clients, all my online clients, that rituals equal results. Rituals equal results. So what we do consistently becomes our life. Consistency is what ThinkFit is all about. It's about giving you that safety net. It's about giving you that, that, that, that, that extra push forward. Because if you don't get this every single day, if you don't feed your mind think fit, you're going to end up the opposite. You're not going to be thinking fit. And if you don't think fit, you're going to end up in a place where there is no consistency and there is no results. And your ritual of not doing anything is a body and a health and a life of nothing where you don't feel happy anymore, where you lose your edge. And this is all about getting your edge back. So super excited that this is something that you're listening to, because if you can Use this today on this Monday, on May 18th. Make this your new day. Pretend it's New Year's Day. It's a Monday. Mondays are powerful. Mondays are days to recommit. So make today, this day, this incredible day, this Monday, your best Monday you've had in years by committing to what we just said. All right? And your homework is simple. Share this podcast, please, with 3 people that you know are not thinking Fit that are kind of going down a curb and are— I hate to say it— aren't thinking positively, you know, and see the glass half empty.
