1 Jun 2020 · 21 min
Jorge Cruise explains why moving first thing in the morning is central to his ThinkFit system for busy adults. He's launching a 19-day challenge with an 8-minute morning HIIT routine, claiming morning movement accounts for roughly 70% of peak performance by spiking serotonin and dopamine while reducing belly fat.

Happy Monday. It is June 1st. I hope you're doing super well as we start a brand new month. I always like months that start on a Monday. Today is one of those months. So yippee-ay-ay, I'm super happy. Welcome to the show. I'm Jorge Cruise, and this is the podcast really for high performance living for people who don't have time. And if you're wondering what does high performance living mean, it means in today's age, whether you're 50, 60, 70, or you could be younger, you're going to have to work harder to get what you want. And it's about working working better. It's about learning how to create harmony in your life too, so you can also enjoy your life, and how to have that energy so when you come home or when you're done with work, you still have time to live your life and, and live it on your— on— live it on your terms. That's what high performance living is all about. It's about really maximizing your life so you can enjoy every single minute. Uh, now this episode of the show is brought to you by Navitas Organics. Uh, Navitas Organics is how I cheat my fast. As you hopefully know, I'm a huge believer in intermittent fasting, uh, for one huge reason. It causes autophagy to occur in your body. And autophagy is a process that basically is housekeeping that allows your body to clean up the, the mess that may be in your body from overeating, from drinking foods you shouldn't, foods that may not be as beneficial. And this natural process of autophagy has really been proven to improve everything from lifespan to longevity, to energy. And it's what all my celebrity clients do. They eat usually in an 8-hour window. Some of my clients eat one meal a day, so it's even less than, than 8 hours. Some of my clients eat in an hour or two window, and then they fast for over 20 hours. But whether it's 16 hours of fasting, 20 hours, or if you're like some of my clients, 22 to 23 hours of fasting, how do you turn off hunger during those 20-some hours when you're not eating? Well, I use organic chia seeds. And Navitas Organics are the brand I use, and they're going to give us a promo code here. I'll give it to you in just a minute for 30% off these chia seeds. I would use this this month, guys. We, uh, my clients and I just started a 19-day challenge over at my website, jorgecruise.com, with 8 Minutes in the Morning workouts. And part of that process is understanding that after you move in the morning and you spark peak performance in your body through serotonin and dopamine, you gotta then fast, you know. And I don't eat myself till about 3 o'clock every day. That's when I have my one big meal a day. OMAD, it's an acronym, uh, one meal a day that I follow. My clients, again, sometimes they do two meals. Doesn't matter what you do, but how do you get there is cheating the fast. Now I'll give you the recipe for a flat belly meal. I use 3 tablespoons of the organic Navitas chia seeds, I use 3 tablespoons of avocado oil, 8 ounces of unsweetened almond milk, and stir it in a cup. Now, it grows if you wait 5 to 10 minutes, say 15 tops, it becomes like a pudding. You can add stevia drops or monk fruit, it'll make it sweet and delicious. You can also add this to water if you want it to be lighter, just 1 tablespoon, add it to water, add a couple drops of stevia or monk fruit, and it'll make it sweet and delicious. But regardless, because you're using this and it has so much fiber in it, it needs to be organic. And the only certified organic company I trust is Navitas. I've gotten to know their company. I've been using now their products for many years. And I'll tell you, it is the highest quality you're going to find out there. And they're going to give us 30% off. All you have to do is type in my name on checkout. It's the last name Cruise, C-R-U-I-S-E, and just go to this website, navitasorganics.com/cruise. I'll spell it for you. It's N-A-V-I-T-A-S I-T-A-S-O-R-G-A-N-I-C-S.com/Cruise, and you get 30% off of your entire order of superfoods, whether it's wheatgrass or any other product. They have a lot of great stuff. Check 'em out. They are amazing, all right? We're also brought to you by Primal Kitchen. If you don't know what Primal Kitchen is, they are the leader, really, in avocado oil in this world, and obviously a part of the Flat Belly Meal is 3 tablespoons of avocado oil. I use Primal Kitchen avocado oil. I love their stuff. Stuff. I love their salad dressings. I love their mayos. Most salad dressings and mayos are made with canola or soybean oil, which is inflammatory, causes your joints to break, causes inflammation. Uh, my mentor Mark Sisson created this company. If you haven't heard my interview with him, check it out. It was about a month ago. Incredible interview for someone who's 68 years young. This is what he uses to stay young. And avocado oil is incredible. And they're giving to all our listeners exclusively a free chipotle mayo, Lemon mayo avocado oil. This is a free one. You just need to go to their website, primalkitchen.com/jorgecruise, and you'll get a free chipotle lemon mayo on checkout. Super delicious. I use this with tacos when I eat. It's— it turns off hunger because it's all healthy fat. Will not break your fast either if you just want to eat it plain, which you can do. So I love them. And then last but not least, we're brought to you by Juve. Juve is how I start my morning. I'm up 4:30, the first thing I turn on in the morning is my Joovv. Joovv is red light therapy. It helps with everything, with mood, with skin texture. It helps bolster immunity. It helps with metabolism. I can't say enough good things about red light therapy. Check them out at joovv.com/jorge. You get a free gift with the promo code Jorge. The spelling of the website, I'll spell it for you because it's a little different. It's J-O-O-V-V. Jooovvi— I'm sorry, .com, no I in there. jooovvi.com/jorge, J-O-R-G-E. Go to that, you'll get a free gift on with the promo code Jorge. Amazing. It's what I use every day. It helps prevent seasonal mood disorder. It's what I use. If I could use it in every room in my house, I would. I use it in my office. It's what I have on all the time. I had it on just before I recorded the podcast, and it's They're incredible, check them out. And it makes the room feel like it's alive. It's just magical, especially if you're in quarantine right now. So on today's show, let me, let's get started, guys. We are going to talk about a powerful ThinkFit. And what ThinkFit is, is really the base of everything. It's an affirmation system to affirm what we want in our life. And today we're going to be talking about the first step to transformation, which is movement in the morning. Today's ThinkFit says the following, I move, first thing in the morning. With that said, let's get started right now. It's a fact, 91% of us have a dangerous amount of belly fat, and it isn't just unsightly. When you have too much belly fat, you sabotage your ability to live a high-performance lifestyle because you're more likely to suffer from aches and pains, low energy, memory loss, and poor sleep, which prevents you from performing your best at work, spending true quality time with your loved ones, and doing your favorite hobbies. The good news is that you can break this cycle, reduce belly fat, and achieve high-performance living in just 8 minutes. Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, and I'm known as the leader in 8-minute high-performance living to the world's busiest celebrities. I've been a fitness, nutrition, and life strategist for over 25 years, and you may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloé Kardashian, President Clinton, Tyra Banks, Dr. Oz, Tony Robbins, or even Steve Harvey. My passion to find the best science-backed shortcuts has allowed me to write over 30 books and become a multiple New York Times bestselling author with over 9 million books in print. And I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. Well, I'm so happy you're here right now. Uh, I love June 1st being that it's a Monday as well. And wherever you're at, I hope you're well. Safe. I know our world in the US is a little debacled right now, a lot of unhappy folks, and my heart goes out to everyone that is in those struggles. But I hope you're well, I hope you're safe, I hope you're still safe with the COVID-19, staying healthy, washing your hands, keep wearing our masks. We're gonna get through this. This year has been a test, no question about it. And I'll tell you what I tell all my Peak Performance clients, whether they're celebrities or or my online clients over at JorgeCruise.com, that movement is really the secret hack, the biohack. I believe it's 70% to peak performance. And when I say peak performance, I mean living a life on your terms where you can work better. But if you like to garden, you can garden better. If you like to improve anything in your life, whether it's your ability to travel better. Hey, why not? Some of us are in retirement. I wish I were. I'm not. I'm going to be working for a while longer. One of my mentors was the godfather of fitness. His name is Jack Lalanne. He worked till he was 96 and literally was working as he, as he had, as he transitioned, shall we say. And I plan on doing the same. So if we're going to work till at least some of us to our 90s, or 70s. What is the key to it all, guys? And that is peak performance living. And so the 70%, in my opinion, uh, secret to living a high-performance life where you feel good all the time is movement. And now movement at any time of day is good, there's no question about it, but the science has shown— and I wrote a book about this 20 years ago— that if you do it in the morning, 8 minutes in the morning, you get a huge advantage. And the science has now shown even more so the results of this over 20 years, and I've been doing it for 2 decades now. 25 years personally, and I can be the testament to this, that if you move in the morning, you get the greatest advantage in peak performance because you hack into serotonin, dopamine. Basically, you hack into your brain. And there are quotes out there that doctors talk about how exercise is the most underutilized form of antidepressant out there. So whether you're struggling with depression, anxiety, or like me, I used to get panic attacks. This is the way to kick them right in the butt. This is how you stop that. You get out, you use the bathroom, drink some, drink some water, get a coffee and whatever you got to do. But basically the first true thing you do before you open an email, read the paper, use the facilities, get something to drink, but you move. And if you can do that in the morning, you're going to transform your ability to live life on your terms. You're going to get an edge. And if you can build this momentum for the next 19 days, that's my challenge to you with today's, today's podcast is to challenge yourself for 19 days. We're going to go from June 1st to June 19th. I want you to move in the morning. So if you're hearing me right now and it's still morning where you're at, get moving. But if it isn't, get some movement in right now whenever you can. It's not going to hurt to do it midday in the afternoon. You can do it more than once a day, but do it upon rising. Literally roll out of bed and do 8 minutes in the morning. Check out my website if you want some support or want to join me live to do it. But it doesn't matter whether it's jumping jacks, push-ups, burpees, a power walk for 8 minutes. I would suggest it's interval training. If you know anything about intervals, you start slow. I like to go 40 seconds slow, 40 seconds high. 40 seconds slow, and I repeat that with 4 moves, so it takes 8 minutes. I can definitely talk more about that at another time, but let's do this affirmation. I'm going to say it 3 times to transform our thinking. This is what I call Thinking Fit. It's an affirmation, and this one is going to give us the edge to move in the morning, and then we'll do it together 3 times. So with that said, listen to these words right. And you can download this affirmation, this ThinkFit, at my website, jorgecruise.com, for free. And it says the following: I move first thing in the morning. I move first thing in the morning. I move first thing in the morning. That simply says that your first true intention of the day is you. Now, a lot of people say, oh, I got to take care of my kids, I got to make breakfast, I got to read the paper, I got to get, I got to get my email out. That's taking care of others. As much as that may be something you need done, you need to be, you need to be selfish first thing in the morning and give yourself the greatest gift you can give yourself, which is is movement. Now beyond feeling good and beyond hacking your brain, so you have serotonin and dopamine levels that are high where you feel good, you're also going to be tapping into belly fat. You're also going to be tapping into longevity. You're going to be tapping into cardiovascular health. So it's a win-win-win. And then you're going to feel great. And once you feel great, then you're going to be able to fast better if you're fasting with me. You're going to be able to eat better foods when you're ready to eat, and then you're going to sleep like a baby. So with that said, let's do it 3 times together right now. Say the following with me. Stand tall. Ideally go into a mirror if you have a mirror in your bedroom or your bathroom and say the following with me. All right, take a deep breath in and say the following: I move first thing in the morning. I move First thing in the morning. I move first thing in the morning. It's that simple. That's how peak performance starts with movement. And it's this movement that's going to change your life forever. And I can tell you, I've been doing this as a trainer for over 20 years, guys, and this is the key to it all. I'll tell you, as much as I believe in fasting and I do believe in sleep, and I believe in good proper nutrition with the right macros, this is step number 1, guys. This is 70% of the result that you need to create in your life, and it's because of what it does to your body. And, you know, I recommend highly getting some intervals in, guys. So with that said, guys, the homework is simple on this Monday, first Monday of June. Make the next 19 days your best 19 days ever. I call them 19-day challenges. I've been doing them all this year. Kicked off the first one with Prevention Magazine seen in January, and now it's June. So let's do this, guys. You have to make a simple commitment, and here's what you do. You got to move in the morning upon rising, your first intention, uh, take care of business, whatever that is for you. Go to the bathroom, drink some water. If you like coffee, have your coffee. If you need a little hunger support, add some butter to it. But basically, you have a few minutes for yourself. Then, before an email is opened, before the news is turned on, before you do anything for others, before you check with your kids, before you call someone, before you do anything, Your first intention is movement. That's what you got to do, guys. And here's the prescription for that. I want you to have this. It's understanding that interval training, known as HIIT training, HIIT, it stands for high-intensity interval training, HIIT, HIIT training, interval training, is the way to do this. It is what's going to give you the best lift in serotonin and dopamine. What I do with my clients live every morning is we do 40 seconds to warm up, So I would say on a 0 to 10 scale, you're somewhere at between a 5 and a 6 on a perception scale of, of, uh, of how hard you're working. 10 is like you're maxed out, 0 is resting, right? So imagine you're at a 4 or 5, maybe a 6, somewhere in there for 40 seconds. Then crank it for 40 seconds where you're at like a 7 or an 8, not quite a 9 or a 10 because that's an all-out workout. Push it to that, and you could— this could be walking. You could walk for 40 seconds slow on a 5 to 6 on that scale, then crank it up to say a 7 7 or 8, do that for 40 seconds and then lower it for 40 seconds back to that 5 or 6. And that— do that for, for one move, and that's 2 minutes right there. And then you can vary it and do another body part. Um, usually what I do is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I work core with my clients. Uh, Tuesdays we do upper body, Thursday we do lower body. I'm opening this up, uh, this month for all new clients to join. Right now we're on a very limited basis of taking in new clients. But whether you do it with me or not, it doesn't matter. Whether you do it is what matters. In the morning, upon rising, guys, you can apply this interval method to walking. I have clients that will walk for 40 seconds slow, go up for 40 seconds, and drop it back down, and they'll just repeat this. And then if you do more than 8 minutes, that's okay too. There's no problem with that. 8 minutes in the morning is the baseline. That's where peak performance will start, and that's what I do with my clients. So that's your challenge, guys. I hope this makes good sense. If you questions on how to do this workout or anything like that, you can always email me at hello@jorgecruise8minutes.com. That's hello@jorgecruise8minutes.com. Please share this podcast with some loved ones that, you know, need to move in the morning, and not just so they lose weight, because really, as much as you're going to lose belly fat on this plan using this methodology, uh, and you're going to also improve your cardiovascular strength You improve everything, your, your mood. Beyond that, uh, you do this for yourself, so you have this advantage, so you feel good every day. And it's, for me, something I do every single day of the week. I do it with my clients Monday through Friday, but I do it on my own on Saturdays and Sundays. Those are like bonus days. But I can tell you, this is the key to it all, guys. It's 70% of peak performance is movement. So I hope this message makes sense to you. If you have questions, email me. Again, the email is hello@ jorgecruise8minutes.com. That's J-O-R-G-E-S, 8, the number 8, minutes, M-I-N-U-T-E-S, .com. And if we can share this with our community, our loved ones, whether it's a church group, whether it's your own family, whether it's a school, a community center you're a part of, or just text it to friends, it'll make a huge difference. So let's do it one person at a time, guys. And I thank you for your time. Have a great, uh, first day of the month here, guys. June 1st is among us. I'm super excited.
