#51 - THINK FIT: I AM STRONG. I KNOW I CAN DO IT.
9 Jun 2020 · 20 min
In this June 9 2020 episode of the Jorge Cruise Show, host Jorge Cruise frames confidence as the essential trait for high‑performance living and for eliminating belly fat. He opens with a promotional segment for his sponsors—Navitas Organics (chia seeds), Primal Kitchen (avocado oil and mayo), and Joovv (red‑light therapy)—detailing a quick “flat‑belly” cheat‑fast recipe and the benefits of avocado oil. Cruise then outlines his core health pillars: intermittent fasting, 8‑minute morning workouts, adequate sleep, and disciplined habits, arguing that these require inner confidence. He leads listeners through a repeated affirmation, “I am strong. I know I can do it,” and explains how affirmations reinforce mental fortitude. A personal narrative follows, recounting his humble Latino upbringing, past substance abuse, and a memorable meeting with actress Esther Williams, who emphasized that “fucking confidence” was the secret to her success. Cruise links this story to the broader theme of inner strength, citing other high‑achievers such as Dr. Andrew Weil, Steve Jobs, and Oprah Winfrey as examples of confidence‑driven success. He concludes with actionable homework: print or save the affirmation, share it with three friends, join his Facebook community, and subscribe to his free Friday email report that delivers weekly health shortcuts. Throughout, he interweaves motivational rhetoric, product endorsements, and calls to action aimed at busy listeners seeking quick, science‑backed lifestyle hacks.

It is June 9th, it is Tuesday. Welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. I'm Jorge Cruise. This is the show for high-performance living for people who don't have time. And what that really means is about my life's work, which is helping people reduce their waist circumference. That's a fancy way to say belly fat, to help cure it. And when you do that, you work better, you reduce pain, you improve your memory, sleep better, and you get the edge in life. So that's what this show is all about. It's about giving you that edge. And on today's show, we have a ThinkFit that I I really think will give you an advantage when it comes to confidence. Because if you were to ask me the number one trait to having long-term high-performance living in your life, where you're feeling your best every single day, where you can wake up and say, this is a magnificent day, you know, one of those days, you need confidence. And so we're going to talk about that on today's Think Fit. You're going to love it. Uh, the show is brought to you by Navitas Organic. I want to shout out to them and thank them for all their support. Um, that's how I cheat my fast. You know, I'm a big fan of intermittent fasting and Chia seeds, for me, 3 tablespoons is how I regularly, daily, uh, kind of cheat the fast without breaking it. You can make a flat belly meal literally in minutes. Um, it takes maybe 1 minute to make. You take 3 tablespoons of these organic chia seeds, and you want organic chia seeds if you're going to be using them on a regular basis. You don't want anything that is not certified organic, and, uh, Navitas Organics is certified at the highest level. I've met the owners, they are incredible. They This is their life's work over 17 years of really finding the best superfoods on the planet. And chia being my favorite, it's important. And I use so much of it and recommend it to celebrities, whether it's in New York like Dorinda Medley or Sonja Morgan on The Real Housewives of New York, or in Malibu to Brooke Burke, et cetera. This is important. And the recipe, I didn't give it to you, but you've heard it I'm sure, super simple. It takes a minute to make. 3 tablespoons of the chia seeds, 3 tablespoons of avocado oil, 8 ounces of almond milk, stir it together, add a little sweetener, and, uh, an unprocessed one, hopefully. I like stevia, I like monk fruit. Avoid real sugar because that'll break your fast. Stir it and you're done. And literally, if you let it sit for a few minutes, you'll have like a smoothie. If you let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes, it becomes a meal. And I couldn't do it without my, my chia seeds from Navitas. They're giving us 30% off if you order anything from their store online. You go to their website, navitasorganics.com/cruise. Navitasorganics with an S at the end dot com forward slash Cruise, and you get 30, uh, off your entire order, including wheatgrass, which is one of my faves, which I do every day, um, or maca. I mean, it goes on and on. They have so many great foods. Um, now we're also brought to you by Primal Kitchen, and Primal Kitchen really is the company that brings to the world the finest avocado oil out there. And as I just said in the recipe, you need 3 tablespoons of it every day, at least when I make my Flat Belly meal to cheat the fast, but you can use it on salad dressings, and they have salad dressings. You can use it as mayonnaise. They make mayo out of avocado oil. And, uh, for all our listeners, if you haven't heard this before, you are getting a free bottle of their Chipotle Lemon Mayo made with avocado oil for free at checkout if you order anything from their website direct. And I'll tell you, avocado oil for me has become a daily practice. It's anti-inflammatory, whether I'm using the oil to make eggs in the morning, you know, if I'm breaking my fast early or midday. It's what I use for high-temperature cooking. It's what I use on salads. It's what I use in my flat belly meals. And I can't say enough about avocado oil. I wish I would have known about this 20 years ago, but it is a powerful anti-inflammatory superfood, and I use it every day. They're giving us this free Chipotle lemon mayo. I mean, I sleep, I get my 8 hours of sleep, but it's dark at 4:30 in the morning and I turn this on and I feel like I'm about to see the most beautiful sunrise in the world at 4:30 in the morning. And on today's show, guys, really, we are here to ignite some confidence in you, because I believe if you can have self-confidence and have this independently inside of you without outside forces pushing you to feel confident, you'll have a huge edge when it comes to high-performance living. Because, you know, when you want to get a flat belly and you want to get rid of that belly fat, there are certain things you got to do consistently. You know, I'm a big believer in 8-minute workouts in the morning. I'm a big believer in intermittent fasting. I'm a big believer in sleeping. And all these things take a little bit of, how shall I say it, consistency, uh, and it requires discipline, but you won't have that unless you have confidence in yourself. So let's get started with today's show. Today's affirmation says the following: I am strong. I know I can do it. It's a fact, 91% of us have a dangerous amount of belly fat, and it isn't just unsightly. When you have too much belly fat, you're more likely to suffer from aches and pains, low energy, memory loss, and poor sleep, which prevents you from performing your best at work, spending true quality time with your loved ones, and simply enjoying life. The good news is that you can cure belly fat and immediately start to work better, reduce pain, improve memory, and sleep better using simple shortcuts I've gathered. Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, and I'm known as the 8-Minute Life Strategist to the world's busiest celebrities. I've been a fitness, nutrition, and high-performance living strategist for over 25 years, and you may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, President Clinton, Tyra Banks, Dr. Oz, Tony Robbins, or even Steve Harvey. My passion to find the best science-backed fitness shortcuts has allowed me to write over 30 books and become a multiple New York Times bestselling author with over over 9 million books in print. And I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. Well, it is Tuesday. Hopefully you're having a great start to your week. It feels like summer's here in San Diego. It's going to be 89 degrees today. So I am scared. Not ready for this heat, but I love it. I do love the sun. And I hope you're having a great day wherever you're at. Hopefully things are peaceful where you're at. And if you live in an urban city, whether it's New York, LA, even San Diego, I think what's been going on with the Black Lives Matter movement is incredible. And I'm just in awe that, that we have to do this, but also in awe that we are doing it. And my hat's out to everyone. And it kind of goes into, into what we're about to talk about, about being strong, because I believe that if you can't stand up for yourself at times, you're not going to be able to be successful in life. You're not going to be able to, to get the opportunities that you should have in your life. And I know from myself growing up as a Latin, Latino young Catholic man, there weren't a lot of opportunities for someone who grew up— we didn't have a lot. We would shop at the thrift stores on the weekends with my mom, things like that. And very humble beginnings for me. And I'll tell you, I've seen a lot of adversity in my almost 50 years of life, and I can tell you, whether it's overcoming a lack of education, whether it's overcoming belly fat, whether it's overcoming a lack of any kind of resources, or even substance abuse, you know, I at one point in my life was addicted to a lot of alcohol and also cannabis, even though it was prescribed to me, and getting off those things can take time and it does take strength. And whether it's something at that magnitude or whether it's something more simple with— it's just overcoming a lack of inspiration you have for doing an intermittent fast, or a lack of discipline to get yourself to bed by 10 o'clock at night, or a lack of discipline to wake up in the morning and get your workout in. Uh, what I want to share with you on today's show, I hope, will give you a newfound strength Strength, because I believe that the most important person that we need to gather confidence from is ourselves. And I'll share with you a story in a little bit after we do the affirmation of, uh, of someone I met, uh, 15 years ago. Her name was Esther Williams. She was one of the highest paid actresses— she told me this— at MGM, um, in the 1940s and '50s. Beautiful lady. I met her in her 80s. She's passed since then., and I asked her the secret to her success. You know, she invited me up to her home in the Hollywood Hills. Um, I was being introduced to her by her son, and it was fun. You know, it was a really great thing because, you know, my 8-minute exercise plan works for all people, all ages, even people in their 80s. And it's always an honor to, to share it with someone who has a, a hunger for life, and this woman did. And I'll share with you the story in just a in just a minute, but I'll tell you that hunger comes from a confidence that she had in her. And so I have an affirmation I'm gonna read to you 3 times that I want you to hear, and then we'll say it together 3 times. And I hope it'll plant a seed in you of truth, because I can tell you in my entire career what we're about to do, this is really the essence of success. It really comes down to this. And the affirmation is the following. Out loud. Says, I am strong. I know I can do it. I am strong. I know I can do it. I am strong. I know I can do it. Think about that word strong. What does it mean to you? Now, in the fitness world, obviously it's strength, muscle conditioning. It's, it's being able to maybe lift a bag of groceries without any injury to your back. But when it comes to inner strength, which is what we're talking about here, it's discipline. It's maybe some willpower. It's about doing the things that you know, like brushing your teeth at night, that you got to do even though you may want to opt out. But we know that in order to have an extraordinary life, we have to do extraordinary things. There's no free lunch, as they say. And if you want a great life where you have high performance living in the forefront of your life, where you feel magnificent every day and you're able to execute on your work, your relationships, um, the things you enjoy and choose to do that when you want to have that freedom, you got to invest in yourself, you know, and that requires a bit of discipline. So let's do this together 3 times. Take a deep breath in. Hopefully you're in front of a mirror. Affirmations work best in front of a mirror. Deep breath in. And let's say this together 3 times. I am strong. I know I can do it. Again. I am strong. Strong. I know I can do it. I am strong. I know I can do it. Good job. Now, if this is something that feels uncomfortable for you to say, strength, very much like a muscle, inner strength can be developed, and it takes the first step of showing up in the gym. And what you just did, you showed up in the gym of life. You have to say what you want to become. That's what— that's why affirmations work. That's why what you say becomes what you do, and what you do becomes your life. It's one of the foundations to affirmations. And that's why for me, ThinkingFit is really the second pillar to health. Because as much as moving in the morning, MOOFIT, is so important to kind of biohack and hijack your nervous system to feeling good in the morning, whether you feel good or not, once you're done with that 8-minute workout, which is what I've been doing for 20 years now, over 20 years, um, you need to feed that mind more positive fuel, shall we say. And the workout will stimulate the serotonin the dopamine, but then the words kind of give it substance. And so now let me tell you the story of Esther Williams that I have from about 15 years ago. I met her in the Hollywood Hills. She was and is still one of the legends of the '40s and '50s. She's passed now, but I met her in her 80s. She opened the door, uh, walked up, uh, strong as a fiddle but using a walker, and invited me in. First thing she showed me was a picture of her with when she was, I believe, 16 years old. She was a teenager. But after she did her on-screen test with Clark Gable, who's the big movie star in the classic film Gone with the Wind, which I saw as a kid growing up with my mom— a big superstar movie star— and she told me about her first on-screen kiss with him at 16, you know, and he was in his 50s. But really just a wonderful woman, told me story after story of all her movies she made and all her obstacles she overcame. And I asked her at the end of our, of our meeting, and as we were talking about fitness and swimming and all these things she did— and she was a pioneer in all these athletic kind of things for women in the '40s and '50s— I asked her her secret to her success, you know. And she was 80 and still living her life on her terms. And she looked me in the eye, you know, and she was in her 80s, and she said it comes down to— and pardon my French, guys, please, I'd rather not speak French here, but she spoke it, so I'm going to share it with you— she said, fucking confidence. She says, Jorge, it takes fucking confidence to make it in this world. And whether you like it or not, she's right. I believe that having a high level of inner strength— so what I would call it— is vital, whether you want to conquer the world or just get rid of belly fat, whether it's a 16 or 20-hour fast, whether it's going to bed and getting 8 hours and making sure you're in bed by 10 tonight. Whether it's having one meal a day, uh, you know, or doing an 8-minute workout in the morning with me live, whatever it is, and you want to do it consistently, you have to have that inner fortitude and inner strength. And it comes, in my opinion, by feeding your mind this, this very thought, you know, that I am strong and I know I can do it. So the affirmation is simple, but my homework for you is to go to my website, and print this darn thing out, or at least download it onto your mobile device and look at it all throughout the day. And maybe make it the screensaver for the week or the month, because strength, inner strength, is the fuel of success, in my opinion. And that's why, for me, this episode of our show is so important. I hope it becomes one that you'll hear again and again when you need that push in that right direction, because knowing that you need this, even though you may not have it, It's critical, and it starts with believing you have it. And so if it's me as your coach, as your life strategist here, saying that you have this, that we're all given this power, that we have an inner strength in all of us as a human species, we have this. I did an interview just last week, and hopefully you heard it yesterday, with Dr. Andrew Weil, who's 78 now. And, uh, you know, he's a man who has overcome many obstacles as a physician, as an MD trained at Harvard, but on the forefront of integrative medicine, which people thought he was a quack 20, 30 years ago. He's been doing it for 40 years, but now medicine has caught up with people like him. And it reminds me of the time I met Steve Jobs years ago at Apple before he passed, and very powerful presence. And people that are trailblazers like Dr. Weil or Steve Jobs, or even an Oprah Winfrey, believe strongly in their vision in themselves. And it comes from just believing. It starts with that. And if you make that your focus, it'll become reality. So that's your homework. Print out the affirmation and share it with 3 friends, please. And I think you're gonna feel a sense of strength inside of you that will come from just you believing in you, maybe with a little encouragement from yours truly, but share it with others and then build a community of people people that think this way.
