#63 - MOVE FIT: I CARB SWAP GRAINS FOR CLEAN PLANTS.
25 Jun 2020 · 16 min
In this solo episode of the Jorge Cruise Show, host Jorge Cruise frames high‑performance living around reducing waist circumference, arguing that belly fat is the primary barrier to optimal work, sleep, and play. He references his previous interview with Dr. Paul Saladino on the Carnivore Code, highlighting a plant‑toxicity chart that categorizes carbohydrates as either harmful or clean. Cruise introduces his "carb swap" strategy: replace grain‑based carbs—high in starch, sugar‑spiking potential, and often containing gluten—with "clean plants" such as avocados, squash, berries, and low‑toxicity tubers like carrots. He reinforces the method with a repeated affirmation, "I carb swap grains for clean plants," and explains why grains can disrupt fasting, raise blood sugar, and cause thyroid issues. Throughout the episode he promotes several resources: a free Belly Fat Cure online course for survey participants, a downloadable plant‑toxicity PDF, a texting "Fit Family" service for personalized support, and sponsor offers from Primal Kitchen (avocado‑oil mayo) and Joovv (red‑light therapy). The episode blends motivational messaging, instructional guidance on food choices, and multiple calls to action aimed at helping listeners implement the carb‑swap approach to lose belly fat and improve overall health.

Happy Thursday. It is June 25th, 2020. I'm Jorge Cruise and welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. This is the show for what I call high performance living, uh, where you can work better, sleep better, play better. And if you were to ask me as an author, as a celebrity trainer, nutritionist, and life strategist, if there were one simple key to living life at its best, where you have that freedom, that peak performance, that high performance, it all comes down to reducing your waist circumference, basically getting rid of belly fat. Uh, and that is what I've pretty much dedicated 20+ years of my career to, is helping people through my books, online, uh, and in person to really get that waist circumference down so you feel your best all the time. And yesterday I had an incredible interview about the new diet, really, that's out there that will help you lower your waist circumference. And if you did not hear yesterday's show, episode 62, please listen to my interview with Dr. Paul Saladino. It's incredible, it's really mind-blowing in my opinion. It's something I've been following for about 2 months, and I've seen incredible results in addition to my intermittent fasting and interval training. Where, you know, age 50 almost, I feel and look my best. And I can tell you that combination of feeling confident in your own skin, but also having the energy to keep up with teenagers and work, work hard during COVID-19 and enjoy life is everything. So I encourage you highly to tune into yesterday's show, episode 62. On today's show, we're doing a carb swap. We're going to be talking about Eat Fit. We're going to be very much in line with Dr. Saladino's method of really understanding carbohydrates and understanding that not all plants, which are carbs, are necessarily beneficial. Some are toxic. So we're going to do a swap of some of the more toxic carbs for some of the healthier, cleaner carbs. So I'll tell you that in a minute here. Our show is brought to you by my website, jorgecruise.com. We're talking about how to eat fit. It's one of your biggest requests to me is how can I improve my eating? What do I eat? What do I not eat? Whether you're intermittent fasting or not, today's show is going to help you better understand carbohydrates. I created something 10 years ago called a carb swap, which is just a way to swap out carbs that may be higher in sugar, starches healthier carbs that are cleaner, help you get a flat belly. And today's affirmation is all about that. It says, I carb swap grains for clean plants. So let's get started with today's show right now. It's a fact, 91% of us have a dangerous amount of belly fat. And it isn't just unsightly. When you have too much belly fat, you're more likely to suffer from aches and pains, low energy, memory loss, and poor sleep, which prevents you from performing your best at work, spending true quality time with your loved ones, and simply enjoying life. The good news is that you can cure belly fat and immediately start to work better, reduce pain, improve memory, and sleep better using simple shortcuts I've gathered. Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise, and I'm known as the 8-Minute Life Strategist to the world's busiest celebrities. I've been a fitness, nutrition, and high-performance living strategist for over 25 years. And you may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, President Clinton, Tyra Banks, Dr. Oz, Tony Robbins, or even Steve Harvey. My passion to find the best science-backed fitness shortcuts has allowed me to write over 30 books and become a multiple New York Times bestselling author with over 9 million books in print, and I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. All right, it is Thursday. Uh, I'm excited for today's show. We're talking about carb swapping, uh, foods, carbs obviously, that are following the plan that we talked about yesterday with Dr. Paul Saladino. Some of this is from his book, uh, The Carnivore Code, and he has a chart on plant toxicity that I'm going to be talking about. I'm going to include a PDF of it in today's show. It was also in yesterday's show, but it's an updated chart that he is sharing. He has a new revised edition of his book coming out August 4th, uh, called The Carnivore Code, and it really is provocative. But, uh, if you heard yesterday's show, you know how much this concept of eating eating more grass-fed beef can really be to help us improve our health. And then obviously we still want to enjoy plants, carbs, and we want good fats. We want all 3 macros. But obviously when it comes to carbohydrates, where do we get that? Because when we eat a, uh, kind of a meat-based diet, uh, you're getting all the fats, all the proteins, but not a lot of carbs. So on today's show, we're going to be using an affirmation to help us remember to is to swap grains for clean plants. And I'll tell you, you may be thinking, "Grains, Jorge? I really can't have whole wheat rice and oats?" You know, so many of my celebrity clients read some of my past books where I kind of obviously talked about this, and this is something I've known for many years, that a lot of grains, because of their high starch content, even though they may be low sugar, when you eat something that's high in starch, which is carbs, does get converted to sugar. So you end up eating just concentrated sugar, which breaks down and still causes your blood, blood sugar to rise and breaks a fast. So it's definitely something you can't do while you're fasting. There's no way to use any kind of grains when you're doing a fast. And a lot of grains also have gluten. Rye, barley, and wheat are rich in gluten, which can cause thyroid issues. And many clients— I have a lot of celebrities that have gluten intolerance. So grains are to be avoided as much as possible. You know, there's sometimes you're going to have them and that's okay, but I would say the 80/20 rule is what I use. You know, 80% of the time I try to avoid these. I swap them out for clean plants. We're going to talk about the clean plants there. Some of them are fruit-based like avocados, squash, and berries, even some sweet fruits and some tubers like carrots. So let's take a deep breath in, listen to the words I'm going to say right now. And then we'll say this together 3 times. So listen, here they are. I carb swap grains for clean plants. I carb swap grains for clean plants. I carb swap grains for clean plants. They may be thinking, hmm, clean plants, what are these? Fruits? Like what do you mean, Jorge Cruz? Well think of one of my perfect fruits out there— uh, plants— it's the avocado. I make guacamole almost every day and I think of it as a replacement for a lot of things I grew up as a little Mexican kid growing up eating rice and rice for me was a staple but now I make an avocado kind of mash which is guacamole right and I'll have that and you can get that pre-made so So a lot of great options. We'll talk about that in a second. But now let's say this together because we got to get this into our system. So stand up, take a deep breath in. Hopefully you're standing in front of a mirror and let's say the following together to get our mind in place. I carb swap grains for clean plants. Again, I carb swap grains for clean plants. I carb swap grains for clean plants. Let's say together one more time. I carb swap grains for clean plants. And I think the keyword here is clean, because if you think about it, when you can make your diet clean, clean of things that cause your body dis-ease, when you're not at ease, when you feel sick, when you feel tired, when you feel sluggish, even depressed and anxiety, there's a lot of connection to what we eat and how we feel, how we look, our waist circumference. I'm gonna promote one, one last time here that you listen highly to yesterday's podcast with Dr. Paul Saladino because he gets into all this and you can change everything everything if you can eat clean. A lot of times we think eating clean is, uh, easy, you know, we just remove processed foods. But there are certain natural foods like grains, you know, like wheat, barley, rye, rice, even oats, that are harder on our bodies. And a lot of us can tolerate it and we do okay with it, but some of us, some people have real issues with with it, and we wonder why we have these issues. Other people just feel a little sluggish, but they deal with it. It's kind of like they survive with the issues. They're okay with the conditions. But imagine having a life where you're healthy without conditions, where you have optimal health. And that's what we're talking about. And so let me give you the specifics on what these less toxic, clean plants are. And this is from a chart that I want you to download and go to JorgeCruise.com again and scroll to 63, episode 63, that's today's show, and download the spectrum of plant toxicity from Dr. Paul Saladino. It's been an updated chart, and basically the top foods that he suggests are non-sweet fruits like avocados. I make— my favorite is an avocado mash, which is like guacamole. It's delicious, salt, pepper, pepper. I'll put that almost with every meal. Uh, squash is something I'm enjoying now these days. Squash is a fruit, it's delicious. You can make that easily, really great, uh, non-toxic food. And I love blackberries and blueberries, uh, they're really, really good. And I make that kind of a dessert almost, and that's something that's super low in toxicity. And it can be that simple. And I hope you're able to embrace this, give it a shot, definitely download the chart that's on my website. I think it'll give you a really simple way to test this theory out and see how it works in your life. And again, you know, my whole life has been 25 years of testing theories, and that's why I've written so many books. And I really do believe in this kind of plant toxicity, uh, swap that we got to consider, because so many clients that I work with, both celebrities online and people that read my books, struggle with these kind of issues, autoimmune in particular. And you know, if you're someone who's struggled in past with gluten, you know what it's like to remove that out of your life. This takes it a step further where you have even greater health, and I think that's important in today's world. And it'll help you feel better, it really will, right away. So let me know what you think. Thank you so much for sharing the podcast with 3 friends today if you can, and I'll be back tomorrow. Have a great day. Peace and purpose. Hey, it's Jorge Cruise.
