Hi, my name is Jorge Cruise and I'm the number one New York Times bestselling author and leading fitness, nutrition, and peak performance trainer to the world's busiest celebrities. You may have seen my work with Oprah Winfrey, Khloe Kardashian, Tyra Banks, Kelly Clarkson, or even Dr. Oz. My career started because in my early 20s I was out of control and addicted to sweets, carbs and salty snacks, and experts told me to simply count calories to get control. They were wrong. My passion to get control of my hunger led me to find simple ways backed by science that would turn off physical hunger as well as my emotional eating instantly. And I know I can help you too. Welcome to the Jorge Cruise Show. Well, happy Wednesday. It's Jorge Cruise. It's October 28th. Uh, it's the middle of the week. Welcome to the show. I'm Jorge. Uh, I'm, I'm thrilled you're here right now. I want to thank you if you're part of the, the inner circle that, uh, is part of my text community, because I got some texts yesterday from my Fit Fam saying, Jorge, are you okay? You're not dying, are you? Uh, and if you guys listen to yesterday's show, episode 85, I mentioned I had a hiccup in my health And what happened on Monday of this week, late night, I got a message from my doctor here in San Diego saying, "Hey, good news and good news." I said, "Okay, what's the good news?" It was a COVID test, COVID-19 test. He says, "You do not have COVID right now. The rapid says you're fine, but the antibody test says you have positive antibodies, so that means you have had," past tense, "COVID." Because I feel great today. I felt great on Monday, but I will tell you the reason the podcast and a lot of what I did during the last few weeks was offline was because I did not feel feel good. And I thought it was laryngitis, and it partly was, I'm sure. But I also thought I just had a really bad flu. And because I had been tested before with the rapid and it was negative, and so I never thought I was sick. I, I thought I had COVID. I was like, oh, I better have COVID. But it was just in that negative kind of mindset you get where you, you just think worst-case scenario. When I thought positively, I was like, you know what, I'm gonna get through this. Uh, even over COVID, right? I was thinking, you know, I'm just gonna rest, sleep in, rest my voice. I thought it was laryngitis. I thought, this stinks. Why do I have laryngitis? Why is it so hard to breathe? Um, and I always would check my cologne, uh, not that I wear it a lot, but I would smell it. I was like, okay, I don't have COVID because I can smell the cologne. Because a lot of the people I've met and have talked to that have had COVID usually can't smell anything. So I was like, no, I don't have COVID. I'm good. I'm good. And I always tell my doctor, like, I can smell cologne. I'm good. I can smell everything. So I never lost my sense of smell, which is interesting, and never really had a fever. I think 99 was the highest ever, and I thought I just had been depleted. I thought I was breaking, so I did a lot of sauna sessions, slept in. I think one night I slept 12 hours, which I haven't done in the history of my life, and I just thought I just was sick. And, you know, my doctor gave me some antibiotics. He thought maybe I had a cold or flu, and we thought we'd get me through that, and then Last week on Friday, uh, we did some blood work and I said please just do the antibody test for COVID just in case I've had it— past tense. And also we did the rapid, and luckily the rapid was negative but the antibody test was positive. So I guess long story short, uh, sometime in early October I got COVID, and it explains why I was nauseous, couldn't breathe, literally felt like death and was depressed. Oh, I was so sad. I thought it's like, oh, my body, I'm getting old, this stinks. But it was just COVID. I can't say, uh, it was a 3-day experience for me. It was at least 2 weeks of being down where I didn't do any podcasting, where I just was resting. I just thought, my God, am I turning 50 this way? This is not the way I want to turn 50, in bed all the time feeling old and tired. But luckily I feel like my normal self again. I'm back to normal and, uh, feeling like my old self again. So super happy to be well again. You really do value your health when you lose it. So, uh, and for anyone who's had COVID, I'm with you now. So, but hopefully the antibodies will last a while and I don't have to worry as much. And it wasn't horrible. It wasn't like— I've had one worse experience when I was 14. I had an appendix burst where it felt like, I don't know, it was horrible. I was 3 days and lucky didn't go septic and all that, but I had a burst appendix when I was 14. And this was not up at that level, but it was definitely in the top 5. So, uh, definitely happy to be through it. Now, uh, on today's show, we're going to be talking about, uh, this next step. Uh, it's really the fifth law on what I'm calling Ask Big, which is a series about really, you know, asking for what you want in your life. And the reason I do this show, as you guys know, it's really the number one podcast to help control hunger in the sense of your appetite and give you control of that. And if that is your ask, you know, be like, Jesus, I need to have a way to turn this thing down is I'm eating literally upon rising, midday, every hour, on the hour, and then a big dinner, and then at night, and then I watch TV and I eat more sugar, carbs, and salty snacks, and it just goes on and on and on. Well, it's not your fault. We talked about the main reason why, you know, a lot of us are going through a lot of stress, and carbs and sugar, and usually the salt on the snacks are carbs, or I should say the food we put the salt on, you know, if you're having chips, whether it's corn or potatoes, they're full of salt, so that's why we love those products, because of the carbs. The, the corn and the potato. It's not because of the salt. Salt's actually great for you. It's an electrolyte, right? It's part of the sodium complex. So we need salt. It's just the carbs attached to the salt we need to avoid. That's what puts on the weight. And so I'm not saying it's not just your fault. It's partly stress and life and COVID. But regardless, if we play the victim, we're never going to get the results we want in our life. And it's about understanding we are victors. That's what this, this podcast really is here to do, is to give you that empowerment so you are a victor in your life and you can take control back of this thing that may and may has eluded you your whole life. Because I can tell you, for me in my early 20s and in high school and as a smaller kid, I remember 9 years old just being addicted to, to sugar and carbs, just night and day. And I was sad, I was depressed. I had a very abusive childhood with my grandmother raising me, and I talk about it now freely, but it was intense. I used to get smacked with a broomstick all the time for being gay, uh, you know, growing up in a Catholic Latin environment. So it was pretty intense stuff. And so for me, my best friend— because I wasn't allowed to meet really with anyone, my grandma didn't want me to meet with anyone. I didn't want to meet girls as I was scared of girls, and I had a few friends that were guys and I couldn't even meet with them. So I, you know, as a 9-year-old boy, was really isolated. And for me, food became my best friend, and it was not eggs and steak and protein. It was carbs and sugar, lots of sugar, as you can imagine. So I've been struggling with it, you know, I'm almost 50 now, my whole life. And so for me, you know, it's knowing how to turn that off. And we talked about these measurable steps yesterday. Number one step is electrolytes. And, you know, whether you do that in the morning or right after rising, I would do it ASAP because the right mineral electrolytes with magnesium, potassium, and sodium will turn that all off. So today we're going to go further and know that as much as you need to know those steps, and there's going to be a couple steps to getting your hunger turned down or whatever the goal is you're trying to achieve, the only thing that matters is the next step. That's what we're going to talk about on today's show, about focusing your power one step at a time. Okay, you can't focus on two. Just hear me on this, you will fail, guaranteed, especially when it comes to your hunger control. You have to focus on one thing, and I know a lot of you that are multitaskers are like, "No, I can do 5 things, at least 3, Jorge, test me." I'm not gonna test you, because if you have belly fat, or you're not feeling your best, or you definitely have a controlled, or a lack of control in your hunger, it's because you're not mindful, it's because you are focused on too many things. So today we're gonna talk about the power of focus, focus and how just your next step matters. All right, now before we get started with today's show, I need to give a shout out to our sponsors, uh, because I'm really grateful for their support. Number one, Primal Kitchen. Thank you so much, Primal Kitchen, for giving us exclusively a free Chipotle lemon mayo, my favorite. I put a dollop or two— oh yes, sometimes two or three— on my steak when I do that every day. It is the healthiest fat you can do. It comes from avocado, which is a fruit, not a vegetable seed oil, which is inflammatory. And this replaces traditional mayonnaise because any mayo out there that's not made with avocado oil guaranteed is made with soybean oil, which is inflammatory, or corn oil. Horrible oils. And they have a whole line of these avocado oils that you can replace your kitchen's dressings, mayonnaise, and they have new products too coming out all the time that really are high-caliber, high-caliber products that will keep you young, reduce inflammation in your body, turn off hunger, because these are the healthy fats, the avocado oil. So check them out. You just have to go to www.primalkitchen.com/jorgecruise. Super simple. And just on the way out, just enter in Jorge Cruise. The whole page will be set up. Just go to primalkitchen.com/jorgecruise and get your free chipotle lemon mayo. It's delicious. We're also brought to you by Joovv. But not these days. We have these bad lights, blue lights, and so we end up being a little sadder, a little more depressed, in isolation. We met on set at Paramount— no, what do we mean, CBS Studios, I think it was, with Sharon Osbourne at The Talk. On set, I was doing a weight loss segment, she was doing a beauty segment, and I'm like, who are you? Let's stay connected. And she's like, I live in San Diego. All right, guys, so with that said, let's dive into today's topic, uh, about focus, because, you know, focus is power. I learned that years ago, more than 20 years ago, from Tony Robbins. He was the client of mine. I worked with his wife at the time and his adopted son Josh at the time in their home, really worked as a trainer to get Josh to improve his health and lose weight and have been indebted to Tony and, and his family now for decades. I mean, over 20 years. Tony wrote the introduction of my first book, 8 Minutes in the Morning. So I'm super grateful for Tony. And if you haven't seen his work, check him out on Netflix on this movie called I Am Not Your Guru. It is life-changing. But he taught me a principle, and the principle is that focus is power. That if you want power in whatever you do— I don't care if it's working out, eating healthfully, working on your finances, working on your being a parent, being an entrepreneur, sleeping, whatever it is, pick the goal. Focus is power because in today's world, we've all become multitaskers. We take pride in it. We're almost insulted and defensive if we have to do one thing at a time. We're like, "No, I can do 3." I've met people that can do 5 things. It's like juggling. Now, do I think you can and you're not lying? Of course, it's possible, especially women. Women are good at this. I am not. If I have a list, I'm good with the list. I got to do one thing. One thing at a time. If I try to think about two at a time, I've done that, they both turn out really bad. So my challenge to you right now, I'm gonna put some music on, is to say this affirmation because what you need to do is know that just your next step matters. So if you listened to yesterday's show, it was show 85, go through the measurable steps, come up with your list. Imagine right now the number one measurable step for you to turn off your hunger. I'm gonna give you an example, is to drink mineral electrolytes upon rising. Literally you get outta bed and drink Drink them even before you go to the bathroom. Just get them into your system. You'll pee a little extra, but that's all in your head. But more importantly, you're gonna turn off hunger immediately. And, and your electrolyte, whatever product or brand you pick, should be rich in magnesium, potassium, and sodium. Now, if you don't have that, a pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt will do too, with a little lemon. But drink that upon rising. So if that is your first measurable step from yesterday, um, then you just need to focus in on that. That's the step that matters right now. So with that said, guys, I'm going to say an affirmation. It's based on today's show. It's really simple. And it's this idea that just your next step matters by you simply saying, I know just my next step matters. All right, let's say together 3 times. I know just my next step matters. Again, I know that just my next step matters. Again, I know that just my next step matters. It's that simple, guys. Make this your mantra. Say this again and again. Rewind the audio. You can go through this with me 3 more times. The more you do it, the better you're going to get at it. That's today's affirmation, guys, and that is your homework assignment right now, is to cut down the clutter in your head to one task. Maybe it's drinking mineral electrolytes. Maybe it's doing HIIT training this morning without the phone on, just focused for 20 or 30 minutes, even 8 minutes. Maybe it's the— it's preparing your meal, but just focus missing in on that. Maybe it's just going through this process of being mindful again and really doing it better this time. You can do this, guys. This is really a practice in becoming better, and it's a practice in getting rid of that mental hunger that we have, the emotional hunger that's empty sometimes inside of us. We can fill it up by focusing our attention, and if you can focus your power, you'll get anything in your life, and you'll get it done faster and better, and you'll do it with more enjoyment. And, and that's really what life's all about. You got to enjoy every minute, right, guys? Why go crazy with 20 tasks at the same time and spreading yourself so thin where you feel like you're in asylum, right, where you're going crazy? So let's not do that, guys. All right, have a beautiful day. Peace and purpose. I'll see you tomorrow. Take good care. Hey, it's Jorge. If you have one more minute, I wanted to address something that I think is super important, and that is if you need help with anything from the show, if you need help about losing belly fat, if you want help about intermittent fasting, if you want help about exercise, interval training, anything at all, I want you to join my Fit Family on text.
