3, 2, 1. Hey guys, welcome back to another video. This week I'm going to be doing a what I eat and how I prep for the half marathon that is coming up in 5 days. It's this Sunday, which I'm actually really excited about it. I'm more excited than I am nervous because I've ran 2 half marathons on my own already, so I know I have what it takes to complete it. The question is, will I be able to do it in, in a good amount of time? I don't know if I will because I have been really inconsistent with my training these past few months. I started on like a running like training plan like 2 months ago, but then I just stopped doing it. And because I was like telling myself, oh my gosh, there's like still so, so long until the, the race, I have like so much time to prep for it. But look at, look at us here. We're here, less than a week I have the race, and it's just like, am I ready? I don't know if I am. I'm going to be doing a lot of short runs this week. I also want to include some interval and tempo training, which I haven't— I've never done. All my years of running, I've never done tempo or intervals, which is crazy because I've been running for like 3 years now and I've never done anything but long or short runs. So I'm going to try to incorporate some interval training this week, but I'm not going to overdo it because guys, I have like less than a week, so I don't want to like kill myself before the race. I start off the week with a nice and brisk 5K. Again, we aren't going to overdo it, especially since I'm a week away and I want to make sure I'm taking my training super easy. Something you guys don't know, but I actually signed up for a half marathon last year, but that ended up being canceled and I never ended up doing it. And during that training, I actually got shin splints, and that really slowed down my whole, like, motivation and to, like, keep going. And I feel like this time I'm so much better with it. I'm, like, not overdoing it, and I have no shin splints, which is something I should be proud of. Hello guys, so I just finished eating dinner. It was super, super delicious and really filling to the point where I actually did not snack after it, which is super great because a big thing I've been trying to work on is not snacking a lot in the night. And my goal this week is to try to stop eating after 6. That means I have to make sure I get enough food throughout the day so I don't have to snack all throughout the night. Like, by night I mean like super late, like 7 or 8 or 9. So yeah, that was really good dinner. Um, I feel like I hit my calorie and protein goal, or like macro goal, I'm pretty sure. Today was actually also really productive productive because all day today I was out filming some interviews for my LinkedIn and Instagram content for like my job search, um, journey, which if you guys have been following me, I'm on a job search, like internship search, um, journey right now. And I'm having lots of fun with that, and I've got some good interview videos today which you guys will see on my LinkedIn and Instagram. But yeah, today was such a great day. I'm going to end off the day with some stretching and yoga, and I'll see you guys tomorrow. Gosh, guys, this is— yeah, interval training is no joke. I'm probably going to start with 2 minutes instead of 4 because this is hard. Just finished having breakfast. I watched some videos and now I'm gonna do some work. I want to do some schoolwork, get that done and over with, and then after that I actually want to do something really fun, which is I want to practice a dance. I saw this dance on Instagram about I'm Okay— it's okay, I'm okay by Tate McRae, and I found a dance tutorial on YouTube of that dance and I really want to learn it. So after schoolwork, I'm going to be learning this dance and it's going to be great. But before that, I want to show you guys what I got yesterday at Walmart for self-care. The first thing I got, I've been really needing a new comb because if you guys don't know, I am like, something that I carry everywhere I go is our combs. My hair gets like so like puffy, like it gets so like frizzy very, very quick. So I always need to be like constantly brushing my hair. And then I also got these new hair, these black hair elastics because I always lose my hair elastics. Like, I mean, I have hair elastics right, um, right here. I just need like some black staple ones, so I have these ones right here. And then guys, um, you know how I— like I told you guys, I have a really huge bad habit of like picking my nails. And so I actually got these, the No Glue Peel and Press Nails. I've been wanting to get fake nails for a little bit, um, but not like the long ones, obviously. Um, these are really short. These are like short and like a really good length. This is my favorite purchase, which is this Refreshing Foaming Cleanser. I love Burt's Bees. This is my favorite brand. I have chapstick from Burt's Bees too, and it's just so awesome. And I just like it's super natural too, so I love it. Which I'm gonna be using every morning and especially before bed just to clear, to clean my skin from all the like the dirt it's accumulated throughout the day. Yeah, this is gonna be a new addition to my skincare routine. So yeah, that's a little haul. Now let's go do some schoolwork, and then I will see you guys when I do the next thing. Hey guys, so it is the night before the half, and I'm about to go to bed. It's almost 9 PM, and I have to go to bed as soon as possible because tomorrow I'm waking up at around 4:30 because the half starts at around 8, and we still have to drive to Toronto. My friends and her fiancé, they're picking me up and I'm gonna drive to Toronto with them, which I'm really grateful and happy that I have a ride because if not her, then I wouldn't have had any ride. So yeah, I'm really glad I'm going with her. We're gonna be doing the race together. This is kind of what I'm planning to wear tomorrow. It's supposed to be chilly and I think I'm gonna be wearing this long sleeve like all throughout. I was debating on whether I should be wearing a vest or not, but I actually think I will wear a vest because it would water, and then I can put my phone somewhere. Even though I did run two halves on my own without wearing a vest, without even drinking water, like, I, I did it without any of that. I know I could do it without, but I just think, you know, for the comfort, to just be a little more comfortable in the run, I think a vest would help. I'm, I'm thinking I'm gonna complete this half in about 3 hours. So yeah, hopefully I can complete it by that time. I'm just gonna, like, you know, steady pace. I'll pace myself. I'll just make sure I'm not, like, like, you know, going crazy, but it's going to be fun. Anyways, see you guys tomorrow morning at 4:30 AM.
Good morning, guys!
Let's get ready for half marathon. Hey guys, so we're heading to the half marathon wave. It was so incredible to see so many runners I've been running for such a long time, but I've never been surrounded by this many other athletes before. For me, running has always been a very individual, me-time sport. I always kind of just did it for the fun of it, as a chance to rewind and relax. I never felt like pushing myself to achieve personal bests, to improve my pace. I didn't start running with a goal to eventually run a half or a marathon or an ultra. It was always just a leisurely activity. But then naturally you hit a point when doing something for the fun of it may not be enough. I'm not saying you need to treat every hobby you have as a means of making it become something greater than just fun, but as a very goal-oriented person, I want to find purpose in everything I do. And my purpose with running now is to challenge my mind and my body to levels I didn't think were possible, in a way to challenge myself to sign up for races and see if I can push through. It's not about the medals or the praise, it's about convincing yourself that you can do it. No matter how good of a runner you are, you are good enough to finish a race. Running races are so welcoming in the sense that anyone can sign up for them. You don't need to try out for some kind of varsity team or pay lots of money for coaching. Anyone can be a marathon racer. This race was definitely a mental challenge more than anything, but I think one quote that really kept me going throughout is realizing that pain is temporary. The pride and strength I will gain and feel if I don't quit is what's shaping me into a better person, and I definitely feel like a better and more resilient person after this.
The half marathon race is officially complete. This is my third one and I finished and I think I got a personal best. I forget exactly what time, but I think it's not like—
it's almost 3 hours, but it's below 3 hours.
So personal best, I'm pretty sure, and I'm really proud of myself. But right now I'm in the lobby. I just got changed. I'm wearing my half marathon shirt. I'm just waiting for my friend. But yeah, I'm just relaxing. My muscles hurt so much. My legs hurt. But feeling good, feeling really happy that I finished it. It was really fun. And right here we got some, some snacks. They gave us some snacks, which was amazing because I'm so hungry. There's a banana, and then they also gave us these potato chips, a juice box, yogurt, this peanut butter food bar that looks really good. Thank you guys for watching this vlog. I definitely had so much fun, I guess, documenting how half marathon went. I'm really excited to start training for a marathon. I just feel like it's time to start training for one. And if I do start training for one, I'm actually have to take it very seriously because I feel like for this half marathon, I, I barely like stuck to the training. I barely did the training. And for that marathon, I'm actually going to have to train hard for it. So hopefully I sign up for that one. But yeah, and I'll see you guys in my next video. Bye!
