In this informal live solo session, Julian Christianson chats with fellow skaters about the Greenwood Village (D) Park skatepark and the broader skate culture of the Rocky Mountain region and beyond. He describes the park’s layout—its dusty, slick surface, ledges, and unique features—while noting its history as once the largest skatepark in America. The conversation weaves through personal backgrounds (Denver, Vancouver, Salt Lake City), memories of other parks (Erie, Urbana, Salt Lake City street‑league parks), and anecdotes about local and visiting skaters such as Matt Berger, Michael Matlock, and Kyle Egan. Julian recounts past contests (GBR, Goofy vs. Regular, Hometown Heroes) and highlights the competitive scene, including international talent from Brazil and Japan. A recurring theme is safety: he warns against drinking while skating, cites a recent injury involving a skater attempting a risky launch, and critiques the park’s maintenance and design, suggesting concrete extensions and better flow. Overall, the session offers a snapshot of regional skate culture, park evolution, and community camaraderie.

A little solo sesh. Happy New Year's! Oh, that was sick! Yeah, man. Oh shit. I don't think I've seen anyone in the 5 minutes in here session as hard as you have. Thank you. I don't think so. It's a cool little park, like back and forth. Yeah, it's dusty. It's the closest to my house here, or it feels dusty. It's just slick. But yeah, it's still like kind of a fresh— yeah, new park. Where are you from? Denver. Oh cool. Yeah, yeah, corner raised. Oh nice. Yeah, I go down to that D Park once in a while. Yeah, that's like my home park for me. It's pretty dope. There's ledges on the side, they're So nice. Yeah, actually, it seems like there's a lot of weird rad shit to skate there that you don't see. Definitely. At one point it was the biggest skate park in America too. Yeah. And then now it's like Iowa. Oh, it really? Yeah. I went through some weird parks in Salt Lake City that were like street league parks, like, oh, pretty big. Yeah. And crazy. Have you been to the one in Erie? No, it's a street league park in here. It's been around like 10 years, I think, now. Yeah, like off of— I mean, there's a lot of parks here. I went to that Urbana Park with that sick teacup thing. Yeah, that thing's dope. I've been here for 4 years now. Where are you from? I'm from Vancouver, Canada. All right. Yeah. Hey, yeah, I'm actually moving, moving back. Yeah, trying to go out there October, but didn't make it. Yeah, never been though. It's cool, it's good, good skate scene there. Yeah, definitely. But I met a bunch of good— like Matt Berger, I met him. Oh yeah, that's funny. My two of my buddies that were just here, they're— we all grew up in Kamloops and that's where he's from too. They're really good buddies with him. Nice. Yeah, it's a small world skateboarding. Yeah, yeah, they went to like Well, he's like super skater or whatever now, right? Yeah, he's all street. I guess he's kind of older. He is, he's same age as me, I think, 33 or 34. Yeah, I'm 34, so I'm like 10 years that. Yeah, I met him skating competition at, uh, in Lake Forest, California. Yeah, the old GBR, the Goofy vs. Regular, and like Hometown Heroes. Oh, okay, it's a smaller contest. They had the final at the GBR, like same contest, same day, but we just skated in the morning. Oh cool. Yeah, like there was a bunch of kids from different places, but yeah, I remember Matt Berger being the one. Yeah, Gustavo was out there for like the pro contest when he was still at Anaheim. And like Levan Alvera the next year or something. Like there's a bunch of Brazilians out there that year. Yeah, I watch Instagram now and like it's like Brazilians and Japanese kids. Yeah. Yeah, they are. Yeah, this place is hit and miss. Once in a while there's like hundreds of people. Yeah, so many kids come here. There's a few local kids that are really good, pretty skaters. Yeah, yeah, I remember skating when it was just this side. What's funny, that park there, like, it's actually a really amazing layout, but it just like— the trainings are so fucked. Yeah, they, they should remake it. Yeah, keep it like same style, match this, still keep a lot of those features, and, uh, extend it to the 5-off over there. All these rocks are— the flow of it is dope if the terrain is good, but, um, yeah, would be cool. Yeah, fun little bump to bars. It's like so small, you just learn everything on it. I love it. I can't hit any of them if it doesn't go up anymore. Wish they put more concrete like on the outside of the ledge. Flat bar over here too. Open like a lower flat street spot over there or something. Yeah, down there. Just this whole thing's brutal. Like, I've fucking gotten amped on this thing and just like flew out into these rocks. Yeah, because it's just like, no, it's so slippery if you fuck up here and slide out. Yeah, yeah, slide or just trip. Oh dude, yeah, I slid up there onto my back. Some kid here, actually one of the kids I met, he's a sick skater, black kid. I think he rides for like that 303 company. All right, um, yep, Michael. Michael Matlock. Yeah, yeah, that's him. He was here with this buddy of his, just Kyle Egan, maybe bigger black dude. Oh, sick. But like, you know, just thrasher kind of stuff. Yeah, yeah, definitely. And he's fucking twisted drinking, and he tries to fucking launch into that thing from here. From here to that, to there, into there. And I'm pretty sure He got crippled. I mean, I watched him probably drink 5 beers. It was insane. Yeah, don't drink and skate.
