Julian is live at LAX

In this YouTube live stream, Julian Christianson and his friend Rob set up a makeshift skate spot at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) while waiting for a delayed flight. Julian warms up on a manual ("mani") pad, demonstrating and explaining a series of tricks such as 180 switch, nose manual, heel flips, and various flip variations, while Rob films and attempts his own lines. The duo interacts with a small live chat audience, greeting viewers like Dave, Brittany, and Nate, and addressing technical streaming issues (chat visibility, audio quality). Julian discusses his new skate shoes (Excel Fit, SXL fit), board setup, lacing technique, and gives shout‑outs to the 303 skate shop and the impact of the pandemic on skate shops. They also comment on the airport environment—people passing by, dogs, and the heat. The stream ends with a thank‑you to the 12 viewers, a reminder to like and subscribe, and a promise to return after the flight delay is resolved.
Chapters
I'm waiting for John. I'm gonna skate this little mani pad. So I'm just gonna set my phone up over here and see. Turn this around. Put this in the shade. Let's go a little closer. Still a little warm-up, hanging out. Oh shit, there's a fucking big-ass crack here. Warm up, eat a couple of cakes. Yeah, my shoulder is—
feel it.
All right, you want to get a head start? Little warm up. All right, 180 switch, Manny.
All right, switch 180, Manny.
I would say just point it up more and get closer. Is that as far as it bends back? Yeah, there you go. That helps because then you can get a little bit lower and then point the same way. Cool. I'm gonna do the same thing, 180 out, like 180 Manny, back 180. I'll do a switch too on the way back. I got my coffee cup there in the way. Yeah, that's cool. I got the phone on live too, just so you know, so people aren't waiting too long. But yeah, that's cool.
Sick.
Oh yeah, whenever you're ready. Let you get a head start, I can push. Let me check on this real quick. All right, who we got tuned in here? We got one person. Um, where's the chat at? Why doesn't it show the chat? Well, anyway, what's up? And they logged off. We got one more person. We got 12 people. What's up, guys? Flight got delayed, so not flying out till tomorrow. I was going to fly back to Denver today, so right now I'm going to skate this Manny pad, but hanging out. Rob, skating this mani pad, warming up a little bit, waiting for the homie John to come pick me up. Leaving the phone over here in the shade, but chill little mani pad at LAX. So, just hanging out.
Alright. Right. Oh, so that's good.
Go back to Wow. I'm gonna do the 180 out. All right, uh, switch 180, nose Manny, 180 maybe.
All right.
Oh, oh, that's mine, that's mine, that's mine. Thank you, thank you. I'll throw it away. Content at its finest.
All right. I'll start over here.
Oh, brax! We got cracks. You should, um, maybe take my phone in a second. We can do a couple flat ground tricks and then hit the manny pad. My— yeah, just on live, that'd be cool. Uh, let's do a switch.
Let's see, let's see, let's see who we got on here.
Got 3 people. So if you're just tuning in, it's at LAX. Came out here for skate day, P-Rod day at Venice Beach. And flights got delayed. We're flying standby. So that means a lot of other customers got priority. Flights got switched over to, you know, different flights. And so we most likely wouldn't make it out today. So we're just going to go back and skate some shit. Yeah, just hanging out here. LAX waiting for a ride. Figure there's a cool little mani pad, so skate the mani pad and just get another day to skate in LA. So not the worst scenario, but here we go.
Um, need to figure out where the chat is.
What up, Dave? I see you in here. My number one fan, Dave the Dave Davis. Huge inspiration as a kid. Oh, another skateboarder. He didn't say what's up. You guys see other skateboarders, you say what's up. Always.
Let's see.
Let's see.
It's weird.
Like, you would think it would show the chat on here, but I guess not on YouTube. Mess around with that, but— All right, Rob's going to film a little line, do some flat ground tricks, and then hit the mani pad. So let me put the battery down. Cool. You want to start back here? Alright, let's see, let's see. Alright. This is how a professional ties his laces. You kind of mess up the first, you know. Miss grab it. Nice little pull. Always double loop when your laces are long. Yo, you see that guy? He said what's up. Yeah, right. So we'll have to go into the settings and check that out. I don't know why. I was out here for P-Rod day, so had to rock the P-Rod primitive board. Shout out to 303, best skate shop in the world. Go support your local skate shops. 303 just had to close down one of their 3 locations in Colorado, the one in Boulder. But, you know, economy of the world has been a little crazy since pandemic. So we got to support, got to support more now than ever. Also, I'm going to go grab that the DJI mic so we can— people can hear me because I don't know if the Bluetooth headphone is actually picking up some too. But we'll run it back later. You know, trial and error. Just learn as we go. Okay. What's up, Brittany? Oh, there we go.
Yeah.
Tried to jack my cup of joe. I know, Dave, but we caught her.
So cool.
All right, let's keep skating. I think he was trying to, uh, dodge us, but then I don't know. People in LA, man, I tell you, they're a different breed. Oh, oh, oh, oh, ole! Um, maybe you want to put this a little closer since it's Vishai.
Oh, okay, okay.
Just because I saw him coming and seemed like he almost hit it. He was like, oh wait, never mind.
Yeah, yeah.
Breaking in these ass imprints. They're a little different from the shoe I've been skating, the SXL fit. So trying to figure it out. Might need to tighten them up a little bit more, but they're comfortable. They look good. That was cool. This is actually a cool little mani pad.
Right. Oh.
Those regular heel flips will get you. Sorry. Uh, switchy old man, you going this way.
Oh, all right, third try.
Third try is the land.
All right.
Oh, here we go. A little P-Rod rock sweep. That's my captain, P-Rod. And you guys see the dogs out. We gotta, we gotta chill out for the dogs. Give some respect. Some of the dogs don't like skateboardings. Oh, we gotta pet him though. What's up, buddy?
Woo! Show the skateboard?
Yeah, here we go, here we go.
Oh, look at—
Oh yeah.
Aye!
Slurpee? That's a sick name. She looks like a Slurpee too. Yeah, exactly. Here we go. Here we go.
Oh yeah.
You know, with the cherry blossoms. Oh, nice. You know what I call these? Puppymon cards. That's cool, appreciate it.
Hey, cheers. Beauty.
Nice, that's cool. Yeah, you too. Yeah, later.
Collectors.
You got a little bio on the back. Yeah, there you go. Just get collection going.
Yep, exactly.
That's cool. LA Pups in the house. All right, no Manny and Olly flip. Well, let's clean up that Nollie flip to nose many nollie flip.
Regular hills.
It's the shoes. I got to break in the new shoes.
All right. All right, here we go.
These are the ones. These are the truth. Excel. Fit, which only had a limited run, which is kind of sad because they're my favorite shoes. Been skating these the past year and a few months since, since they came out. I wonder how the audio is. Can they hear us on there? Let's see if anyone can let us know.
The S fits or the—
Yeah, yeah, it's an original Excel design right here. But then, you know, the international style sole. But yeah, the same ones as like the Swift 2.0, they have the same bottoms and— but the upper is like an Excel. The classic XL, but then they also have the shoelace holes, which I don't really use them, but they're also great for just protecting the shoelaces from getting ripped. So probably just add to the protection of the laces and grip of, you know, flick tricks if you get those laces there. But yeah, let's see how that works.
For clarifying, so yeah, it's that it is loud and clear, and he was asking if they were in the Excel— the Excel bits. Yeah, and, uh, I appreciate the feedback.
Yes, sir.
Cool. Yeah, Nate, I hope you're up this mani pad. I don't know if there's anything that you— this mani on knowledge flip out. Uh, drop it in the comments, relay it to my boy and see if he wants to try to get it down or not. He just switched shoes, so now we're actually kind of getting more serious.
All right, uh, let's go this way on the switch 180 nose manny big spin out.
Okay, it's one of those tricks that seem harder than they are.
I guess long as you get into it right and your feet are right The big spin out just kind of goes because you're already going to 180 out.
Wow, and just like that, clean it up. The fact that it was just that casual though on the description and then just to actually do it is wild. Oh, I almost landed up there too. Hey, perfect! Love that. Yeah, for the kiddos. I don't think it can be better than that, honestly.
That's ridiculous. Right, in honor of the World Cup, amazing soccer pitch.
Okay, so impressive. No hands.
Appreciate it. Ah, you want to try?
You want to try?
Yeah, try. Yeah.
Yes, sir.
Ah, appreciate it. Yeah, you know, after flight, people are just getting off flights.
Exactly.
To their Ubers and Lyft. So occasionally you see people that skate or know about skateboarding, maybe they play, I mean, Pro Skater or something, so they know some trick names. I'm glad he didn't say regular kickflips. I always mess those up.
Let's try kickflip.
Yeah. Wow. He wouldn't have messed that one up.
All right, one foot, man.
Oh wow, all right, that was even impressive for me. I don't think I've seen you do many of those. That was actually nasty with the one-foot Manny.
I'd want to see that too.
That would be crazy.
What?
Said that?
No, no, I'm saying I would like to see that personally.
That's what I mean.
But I don't know.
Well, we know you did clean up the nose manual nollie flip too, so I— we already did see that.
Oh yeah.
Oh my gosh, it was like right there.
Let's pray. Yes.
Ah, almost. No Manny on Ollie tray at the moment. Would love to see it.
I'm guessing I should do it this way, be facing it for the—
for the tray flip out. Yeah.
A little bit slower.
It does look better that way though, you're not lying. Shout out to chat, shout out to chat.
I don't know if—
yes. I mean, the difficult factor is high, you know. It is getting hot.
California right now is pretty good. How many people are watching?
Uh, we were peaking at like 11 or 12. Currently right now we're at 4. Yeah, it's like going up and down constantly all the time.
This way just easier because that crack too.
Yeah, I see it.
Like uphill more this way.
Mhm. And you almost landed it. I pulled my pants a bit here. Okay, there you go. We're good now. I just had to pull my pants. Let me try to get another better angle of the sundown. Ah, it was.
Let's take a lap. All right.
It is— in the sun is hot. Woo! As the fans. Ah, there it is.
Nice, nice.
I see what you were going for, but— oh man, now that would have been crazy to do that in between and get back on. Oh man.
Yeah, we're running laps at a hell of a—
really running.
We got cops too.
Oh, what a save! How was it?
What is it?
Heel Manny? Okay, wait, regular heel Manny? I don't know about regular heel Manny. What about like switch heel Manny?
I'll do regular heel.
All right, so he's gonna try to honor the regular heel Manny. Sorry, I just saw it in comment. I was looking down. Yes sir. Regular human, he's getting tired right now.
Ah, all right, at least we're not in Colorado.
The air being thinner, I could breathe a little bit better.
Yeah, even through all this, like, I'm still feeling really good. And plus, it's like working off like the beer from earlier, so now I'm feeling really good. So Yeah, flight delay beer.
All right, let's go back.
Let's play regular.
Yeah, so he's gonna run back with the heel, Manny. He almost had it technically dragged, but, uh, Nate can— he's gonna try to do it right here. I feel like he's got his second try for sure. I mean, clearly. Oh, trade flip. Oh my God, and I just miss it out.
Thank you, appreciate that.
Ah, I'm glad you got it. I literally— the one time I Ah, almost with the switch tray. And there it is, switch tray, second try. It's crazy. Ah, I hope that you didn't land the heel Manny when my board slipped out. Like, I tried to turn around too quick and lost my board.
I was probably done like 9 regular heel flip Manny. So facts, when you're practicing a trick so many times, it's just going to come a lot more, you know, the one you, you barely do, right? While you practice, practice, practice, and then when the competition comes, it doesn't feel like a hard trick. It feels like a just everyday experience. So deep breaths in through the nose, out, you know, all those different breathing techniques.
Those are good too.
All right, let's go this way and I'll come back here for a bit.
Oh, with the Nollie 3 out?
Okay, that'd been crazy.
I'd love to do that. Oh my gosh, it barely tapped, barely tapped. Oh my gosh. All right, chat, blow it up. Hey, I mean, even with the pivot, you know, I'll take you with the pivot.
Ah, we should, uh, see if— yeah, it's John getting close.
I don't know, you would have to check. I don't—
I'm probably all this, right?
That's what I figured. I don't see it.
39 minutes. I think we talked about 30 minutes.
Oh shit, wait, no, this is your phone. I'm sorry, I'm like looking at my phone.
Thanks for tuning in, guys. I think we had up to like 12 people, so that's cool. Just hanging out with Rob at LAX. Delayed flights, so we're probably gonna fly out tomorrow instead. But thanks for tuning in. Uh, if you got any trick requests or something, definitely throw it in there. But we're gonna log off for now and stay tuned. As everyone on the internet says, like and subscribe, and I'll see you guys soon.
Peace.
