134 YEARS & STILL NOT FINISHED | Sagrada Familia

A first-person travel vlog transcript of Nate Buchanan and Kara exploring Barcelona. They visit Sagrada Familia (noting its 130+ year construction), buy skateboards and learn to ride around the city, prepare for the La Tomatina tomato festival, tour the interior and crypt of the Sagrada Familia, and later look for food. The tone is casual and conversational, mixing humor with on-the-ground travel details.

Here, let's go.
This way.
Go, go, go. We ran off to the subway, going in the wrong direction, changing over to that side.
We just driving a Ferrari around Barcelona, which I still can't believe. I'm saying that's absolutely crazy. We grabbed two mini pizzas and a Coke on our way out of the metro. And now we are going to tour the Sagrada de Familia.
The Sagrada de Familia is the church that we went to on our walking tour the other day. The one that's been being built for like over 130 years. And it's still not done yet. But we didn't have time to go in. So now we're going and meeting Charlie and John there.
We are actually excited to pay to go in the historical building. Building.
It's gonna be a good one.
So it turns out that you have to make a reservation before you go in the Sagrada Familia. So we have bought tickets online for 6 o', clock, 5:45. So in the meantime, we are gonna go buy some skateboards.
I need to get away to kill a few hours. Made a little pit stop.
We got our outfits for La Tamatina.
So the whole reason we came to Spain in the was to go to this festival called La Tamatina, which is basically just a huge tomato fight. So not tomorrow, but the next day we're getting on the bus at like 3:30 in the morning, going to this little town somewhere where they get a.
Dump truck and dump tomatoes in the road and you throw them at each other for about an hour. And you have to wear white.
This is happening.
And then purple. Purple. Which, what color wheels do you want, White or blue? Purple. Don't have led.
Do you want LED lights or do you want just the purple board?
I think I like the purple board.
Okay. I think you should get the light up lights.
Oh, muchos gracias.
We're riding out of here.
I don't know why. The general consensus was that we should all buy skateboards today and ride them around the city. That's what we decided to do.
It's happening.
None of the four of us have ever skateboarded before.
Couldn't very badly.
Nate got LED lights on his wheels.
I was like, I'm not gonna get one. I'm not gonna what? I'm not gonna get a skateboard. I'll get the white one with the multicolored wheels. All right, Kara, I'm really nervous.
You can't use the pole. Do not break the big camera.
Here, give me the big. Pretty sure these are skating shoes.
He came out from underneath me and, like, flew up right by her face. I was like.
Charlie, you're a natural.
Are your feet supposed to be straight or like, one? Straight and one.
Just five.
That was a hole. We're pretty much like that guy. I think.
You'Re so good.
No skating and holding the camera.
We are now skateboarding back to La Sagrada Familia. It's a little scary when there's anybody around, but I think we're doing pretty well. I haven't fallen on my face yet.
Hello. Gotten good enough to Snapchat and ride. This is trouble.
Updating the story.
We made it. We did. We didn't wreck kara.
Yeah.
We learned in our tour yesterday that they chloroformed this donkey to knock him out. And they actually got a crane and held him up so that they could get the scale just right. And then a little more gruesome. These dead babies were also real dead babies so they could get the scale of them right.
We made it inside the church. They're letting us bring our skateboards inside. Who knows how long we'll be in here? It's huge.
It closes at 8, so we can only be in here for, like, a little over two hours.
It.
This square right here. No matter how you add it up, it equals 33, which is the age that Jesus was when he died. Pretty cool.
This is the school that Gaudi built for the kids of the workers who.
Were building the church so you can go to school. School.
This is the building that we're inside right now.
How's your nap? It.
That church was absolutely beautiful. We ended our time there down in the crypt where Gaudy, who's the one who started building this church. Is buried.
That was super cool, which is awesome.
And I think it was really worth the entrance to me.
Totally agree.
I'm so glad we did it.
Yes. The inside was so hard to capture. It was just, like, so big, so tall. You couldn't fit anything in the frame together. So just like, take whatever you saw in the video, and then it's like 10 times as cool.
Now we're really tired and really hungry. Skateboarding really took it out of us.
So now we're gonna skateboard downhill to a place with a hundred little sandw.
See you like, she smacked me in the head, like, four times.
She tried to sell Charlie's shoes.
Oh, my gosh.
Definitely turned out the best. It.
Oh, we get two.
Best grocery store ever.
Cute.
How's that salad.
It's good.
We are now skateboarding. Back to La Sagrada Familia.
Yeah.
Back to La Grada Familia Sagrada.
Blue Fish are real.
Back to La Grada Familia.
No. Sagrada Familia Sagrada.
Not made for skateboards.
Gosh. Sorry.
It's waiting for us to come up. Just hit your shin. Carrie, you've gotten so much better.
