We have just boarded the Orient Express and we are staying in the grand suite, which is the most expensive train room in the entire world. For breakfast, we're having caviar with Champagne. Cheers. This 24 hour journey from Budapest to Paris costs £23,000 or $28,000. That's over $1,000 an hour to be in this room, which is kind of ridiculous. In addition to this very luxurious room, the ticket also includes caviar, free flowing champagne, a butler breakfast l lunch and dinner, plus a chauffeur pickup and several other fun surprises.
Join us as we attempt to make the most of this once in a lifetime experience and give you a full tour of the world's most expensive train room.
There it is.
This feels so surreal right now after riding trains all over the world. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would be boarding the Orient Express to ride in the Grand Suite.
You're welcome aboard, my love. Thank you. Enjoy your journey.
Thank you.
This way.
Oh my gosh. As soon as everyone is on board, I will come to you and explain you everything about this lovely, churlish.
Okay, thank you so much.
You're welcome.
This room is insane. We have a cold bottle of champagne, a fruit basket. Dear Mr. Mrs. Buchanan, welcome on board the crew and I wish you all the best for your ninth wedding anniversary. You told us on our first wedding anniversary that we would be spending our ninth on the Orient Express. I literally wouldn't believe it. This one is your ticket reservation for the service of Lancho.
I arrange a nice table for two in the third.
Thank you very much and see you later.
Thank you.
My pleas.
Happy anniversary.
Look at this.
Hello, everyone. Yes, we're in the grand suite.
It's even better in person. This entire train car is made up of three of these rooms. That'll give you an idea of just how big this is.
Ladies and gentlemen, good morning. So the Grand Suite also comes with welcome caviar. According to the Internet, this tiny tin cost $232.
This is only my second time ever having caviar. The first time was on a flight and I learned that if you serve caviar with a metal spoon, it affects the taste. So instead they serve it with a pearl spoon. And the fact that I am at a point in my life where I know that means that my life has taken a lot of unexpected turns.
Happy anniversary.
I don't think I would ever actually pay for caviar, but when it's. It's part of an experience that comes with it, I'm all about it. It's like having a cute little caviar pizza. The caviar is kind of like the salt on top, except for it's just really expensive salt. Wash it down with my champagne.
I'm obviously joking. Literally two months ago I was sleeping on the ground with crabs and drinking water out of trash. Life's all about balance.
It's funny to me that it comes in a tin pan. You would think the tin would affect the tast.
So good.
We have about an hour until our lunch reservation. So in the meantime, I'm going to give you a full tour of the most expensive train room in the world. Welcome to the grand suite. And what's crazy is this train car was part of the original Orient Express that was built in 1929. So this place is almost 100 years old. Right here's the bathroom. I'm going to save that for last. Here we have our living area. This couch alone is more seating than we have on our normal train rides. And to my right we have the dining area which we've already put to use. The champagne is all included and free flowing according to the website. So I think that means we can have as much as we want. I love that it's right next to this window. Then we also have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 more windows in here. This wall has moving pretty quickly. A real plant and the most beautiful.
Smelling tea. Then we have our choice of sparkling still water and way too many glasses. Moving back in the room we have these two beautiful mirrors, which I love. It just makes the room feel so much like bigger and fancier. I love all the details on the wall. Everything is just so shiny and elegant. To my left we have a closet which we've hung our fancy clothes that we bought in H and M last night. On this side we have some storage, little drawers. The craziest thing is underneath this bed is all storage as well. Our butler came in earlier, lifted up the bed and put all of our bags under there. So we just have all this space now. It's like they're not even here. Kind of like our van, but way better. This.
Is our extremely comfortable queen bed. It's super soft. The sheets are all white and crisp and branded. So if you look closely, it says vsoe, which stands for.
Ventus Venice. Ventus Simpleton Venice.
This is Simpleton Orient Express. So the sheets and these super soft pillows are both brandish.
Look at this pillow.
Ready?
So crazy. On either side of the bed we have this adorable little nightstand, this little lamp and we each have two USBs and an outlet. But I think my favorite part of this whole bedroom is that this window opens. Besides the trains that we took in India, where you can literally hang out the door, I don't think we've ever been on a train where we could actually open the window. We rode the entire Trans Siberian Railway without being able to open the window. And we just felt so trapped. Oh, that's a little difficult.
Wow.
How fun is this out for the hard part.
I think I just need to do it with my hand.
Okay, moving on. Here we have the control panel. These top two buttons look like they would be where you would adjust the temperature in the room. But we've learned that these don't actually work. They have to do it up at the front, apparently. This one's also for looks. These do do something, though. These control the lights in the room. So does this one. And this one turns on the little random blue light that kind of looks like it belongs on a boat. But the most important button on this entire wall is this blue one right here, which calls our butler. What's crazy is this is one of many in this room. So butler button number one.
Oh, I already did that one. Four. Five. And number six, last but not least is in the bathroom. Ta da. First of all, we have these two brand new, soft, beautiful robes that we get to keep. Feels like they're free. They most definitely weren't, but you can take them with you. And if they don't fit in your bag, they'll ship them home. And not only that, they also come with matching slippers. How fun. Another fine detail is that the room comes with a Dyson hair dryer, which, unfortunately, I cannot bring home with me. If, you know, you know. And now for the actual bathroom. How beautiful is this? I love the tile and this emerald sink and all the gold details in here. We even have a gold bidet, gold flusher. All of the soaps just look extra fancy. And believe it or not, we have a shower in our room on a train. It's mind blowing. Nowhere else on the entire Orient Express has a shower except for these suites. But the craziest thing is the towel rack is heated. And that wraps up the tour of our grand suite. We're gonna go grab some lunch, and then we'll show you as much of the rest of the train as we can.
This feels like a good place to pause and say thank you for allowing us to live a life better than our wildest dreams. We are so grateful, and we want to give one of you the opportunity to come hang out with us when we're in Nashville. Later this summ.
We'Re gonna be doing a completely free giveaway. So let me explain. Hopefully by now you've heard of the app we created called faredraw. If not the simplest way to explain it is. Every day we search the Internet for the best flight deals. And when we find one that meets your travel preferences, we send you a notification so you can save a ton of money on your next flight.
But up until this point, we've been focusing mainly on international deals like flights to Greece and Spain. Then we Learned Less than 50% of Americans own a passport.
So today I am super excited to announce that not only are we searching for domestic deals inside of the US but they are completely free. And to celebrate, we want to give one of you an all expenses paid trip to Nashville to come hang out with us. We'll pay for your flights, for your hotel, and we'll plan something fun to do. Whether it's dinner and live music, or we could go on a hike or axe throwing. As long as it's not line dancing, we'll do whatever sounds fun to you. That's it. It's super simple. We'll leave a link in the description below, or you can scan the QR code here on the screen.
I don't know how to use a knife like this.
We don't belong here.
Wow.
That's amazing. I have no clue what the outside of this is made of. It just melts in your mouth.
They were bringing dessert out and I said I didn't want any because I only eat dessert if it's chocolate. And he said, one moment. And he brought me out a chocolate mousse. It's amazing. This wasn't even on the menu. Stopping for about half an hour. And if you like to take a stroll on the platform, it's possible.
Simplin' not simpleton. Vintus. Simpleton.
Guinness.
After all that, I couldn't remember the word and it was the wrong word all along.
So we're currently four hours into this journey and we've just stopped in Vienna where we're allowed to get off the train for the first time. So we're using this as an opportunity to walk off some of the food that we ate for lunch. And the train is using it as an opportunity to switch locomotives and switch conductors. So every new country that we go into, they'll switch the locomotive that's pulling the train.
The route today will take us from here through three countries. Through the cities of Linz. We're about to have afternoon tea served in our room. But before we do that, we're going to show you around the entire train. There are 14 carriers, and ours is in the very front. So we're gonna start here and make our way back.
So our car is composed of three grand suites. We have the bunpest suite. This is our room, the Vienna suite. And then down at the very end of the hallway, we have the Prague suite.
Usually this little area between train cars is really scary and loud and ugly, but they've done a great job at the place. They have these blue velvet curtains, these rugs I usually like. Jump over. Moving on to carriage number two. This one's pretty much identical to the first one. It's got three grand suites as well. Carriage number three is the sleeper car. All the rooms here are twin rooms with bunk beds. So pretty much anyone on this train is in one of our grand suites is in one of these. Hopefully, we'll get to look at an empty one. I think this must be the restroom that, like, if you don't have one in your room, what would you call it? Like, the public restroom?
You sound so spoiled. So to clarify, all the twin rooms in a carriage share a bathroom that's located it at the end of the train car, which is what I'm standing in right now, honestly. Smells wonderful, and it's very quaint.
This is carriage number four. Inside the first two carriages, there are three suites. But inside the sleeper carriages, there are one, two, three. You're welcome.
Nine cars. Basically, our rooms are massive. This is carriage number five, Another sleeper carriage.
Carriage number six is the first of three dining cars. This is carriage number seven, which is restaurant number two.
I think we're still in carriage number seven. This is like a little jewelry shop. Carriage number eight has this fun carpet. I don't think our carpet looks like this. Carriage number eight is where we had our lunch today. And this is the bar car. There's a guy playing live music. Obviously there's a bar. People are sitting around cocktails, eating snacks. I like it in here. This is an sleeper car. But being pinky, I'm not as big of a fan of the carpet in carriage number 10.
The way we're walking right now has nothing to do with the champagne. It's a very rough ride at the moment.
Car number 11 is also a sleeper. Carriage number 12.
They're all starting to look very similar.
I think this is 13. Carpet's okay. I think this is the last one. This is car number 14, the caboose, also a sleeper? And now back for our tea time carpet review.
On the way back, carpet number one. Carpet number two.
I love stopping at different train stations because everybody waiting for their train is taking pictures of ours.
Here is the fantastic place for you. We have decided to turn our tea time into coffee time. And we got little cakes.
You were just constantly eating on this train. As soon as we finished afternoon tea, she brought us the menu so we could order our breakfast for in the morning. This is ridiculous.
This ride through the Austrian countryside has definitely been the most scenic part of the journey so far. And each little town that we pass has a beautiful little church.
It's time to take off my slightly nice clothes to put on slightly nicer clothes. I hope that nobody notices. Ow. Good. Guess who bought heels last night? Do you know how long it's been since I've worn heels?
So the dress code for tonight's dinner is formal. And until yesterday, neither one of us owned any type of formal clothes. We landed in Budapest last night and literally had an hour until the store closed to pick something out for this train ride.
It was very stressful, according to the PDF they sent us when we booked this train. Basically, if you don't. If you don't dress nice enough, they'll make you eat inside of your room. So there was a lot of pressure in last night's shopping spree.
Shut button is top button. What do you think?
I have no idea.
I'm pretty sure that's him.
I mean, I feel like the button is there for a reason. Right? You look great. Thanks for the moment. This is just like my prom dress.
This actually does look so much like your prom dress. That was 15 years ago.
Half my life.
Life ago. Prom of my senior year is what we call our first date ever. And that's when that picture was taken. I honestly feel so uncomfortable in dress clothes. Not, like, physically, but, like, emotionally. Like, should this button be buttoned?
Yeah, like, should I wear my hair down? Should I put it up?
Is this blazer too small?
Are these heels too weird?
My shoes don't exactly match my blazer. Should I be embarrassed?
Can you tell that my jewelry is $5?
I'm glad the train's not moving while I'm walking in these heels for the first time.
Hopefully this will pass this form when they let us eat in the dining room.
Thank you.
For you, sir?
Some guacamole, red onion.
I haven't even tried my pea soup yet, so who knows?
As usual, I like to start from the BO Cheese and Julie Embal.
And same for the middle south of France. Same reason we have blue cheese.
And can I try this one? Yeah. This one.
Still enjoy your cheese.
I don't think I'm sophisticated enough for fancy cheese.
Stop it.
This is the best thing about all day. The vegan dessert option just happened to be this warm chocolate perfection. Literally the yummiest chocolate cake I've ever had.
Even though it was past our bedtime, after dinner, we made our way to the lounge car to enjoy the live music where the only available seats just happened to be at the bar.
Do you want a sticky? Yeah, yeah.
Yeah. The pro James Bond martini.
Wow, that's impressive. I'm glad you didn't let me do that.
Oh.
Wow. Salute. Enjoy.
So we hung out at the bar long enough that they started bringing us out leftovers from dinner.
Wow.
What a night.
So we ended up sitting at the bar because there are no other places to sit. And it ended up being the best night ever.
Best part of the entire trip.
Everyone working at the bar was Italian. We have a special place in our hearts for Italy.
Kara knows enough Italian words to make us friendly.
It was one of the guys birthdays. They ended up making drinks for all of the staff. We were included. It was so much fun. This is how it started. This is how it ended. It was a great night. I've never loved a pillow more in my entire life.
Oh, no.
Oh, how do I turn this?
It's on the court.
Oh. Good night. This is so fun. I don't want to sleep. Sleep is expensive.
Yeah. This is gonna cost us like $4,000.
Are we only sleeping for four hours?
That's plan.
Oh, my gosh. Are you serious?
You just said you didn't want to sleep.
I don't.
Good morning.
This road's a little revealing. I got up with the sunrise to enjoy our last few hours before we get to Paris. This is all going by way too quickly.
Morning.
Well, I guess since we have a super fancy shower, I should probably take one. Also, last night we learned that not only is the towel rack heated, but so are the floors.
This is much nicer than the last shower I took on the train.
The fact that you can even say that is crazy.
Fresh fruits and fa. Avocado and lobster.
Wow.
Avocado and grapefruit. Never had this combo before.
Woo. Grapefruit was very sour. I like it.
And I got the lobster. Avocado toast. Do not put this in the pan.
Yes. Nate in his sunglasses drinking champagne for breakfast.
At this point I. I've just dove in head first. Eggs and caviar just felt like a fitting last dish for our time on the Orient Express. Paired with some champagne, of course, because we're in France.
Okay. Full transparency. The food in the restaurant cars has been great. And I don't know how to say this without sounding like a total spoiled brat, but it hasn't been anything I would write home about. Well, the chocolate brownie dessert yesterday I will remember for the rest of my life. This is the best breakfast I've ever had. It is a layer of potatoes drizzled with olive, a layer of minced garlic, the thickest truffle I've ever had, topped with some tiny, crunchy bean sprouts. This is my kind of breakfast. Nate wouldn't touch this. It's the best thing ever.
All right, we're pulling into the Paris train station, but before we disembark, we're getting a quick peek inside one of the twin cabins. This is the double cabin. Anyone who is not in one of our six grand suites is in a double cabin, which is also very nice. Keep in mind, this is about $20,000 cheaper than our room, but it's still amazing. We have a couch, which I believe can turn into bunk beds.
We just lift up the.
The back part of the sofa, and.
Then we're going to keep, like, the. Take the mattresses out, and then we prepare the bed.
So you don't have your own bathroom in here, but you do have a little wash basin so you can wash your hands, splash your face. Look, a little stool where you can maybe prop your feet up. Lots of places to store drinks. Okay, a couple more things I want to point out before we go. We have this little tray table here, so you can have your coffee and breakfast here in the morning, or this is where you can hang out in the afternoon. Looks like you can also open this window, and if you booked this train with someone else, this door, if you want, if you know your neighbor, can open. So you have, like, two new rooms together. Or if you came with, like, your kids, you have one room. Your kids have another room. So pretty cool. And lots of storage over here. This is a really fun fact. This reading light right here used to be an ashtray, so I guess they.
Would have just turned it upside down. Right. So it would have just been flipped this way, and then you could have put your cigarettes in it, but now they just turn it over and put a light inside. Thank you.
My pleasure. I'm so glad we got to see you and welcome to Paris. Thank you.
We made it to Paris. That's the end of the Orient Express.
Goodbye, friends. Please.
Well, that is the end of our Orient Express experience. From here, our chauffeur will take us to our hotel in Paris and we'll continue the anniversary celebration there.
